Burgtorf tops first Drive For 5 at Donnellson

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 12) – Round one of Pepsi Lee County Speedway’s Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 went to a driver well acquainted with the fast way around the oval at Donnellson. Mark Burgtorf pocketed the $1,000 Friday night victory in the Lynn Richards no. 15R ride. Burgtorf and Matt Strassheim drew the front row for the 22-lap feature. While Burgtorf set a fast pace out front, Strassheim, Tommy Elston, Darin Duffy, Denny Woodworth and Dustin Griffin battled for position behind him. The first caution appeared on lap 11 following a multi-car tangle. Burgtorf moved back out front on the restart, with Elston, Duffy and Woodworth close behind. The final caution of the race came on lap 16. Again, Burgtorf rocketed back out front on the restart with Duffy overtaking Elston for the runner-up spot. Dacotah checkers fly for Kinzley, Hanson

By Becca Rattei MANDAN, N.D. (June 12) – IMCA winners Friday night at Dacotah Speedway were Quentin Kinzley and Braydee Hanson. Pole sitter Hank Berry quickly pulled away early in the IMCA Modified feature. Berry’s large lead was erased by a lap seven caution, however, and Kinzley passed Mark Dahl for second and challenged Berry for the lead following the restart. They briefly raced side by side until Kinzley took charge on lap eight. Kinzley started to pull away as Marlyn Seidler started to close in on Berry. Kinzley made it look easy as he cruised to victory lane to win his second career feature victory. Berry held off Seidler to finish second while Jeremy Keller finished fourth. Spencer Wilson rounded out the top five. Ken Sandberg grabbed the lead from pole sitter Stan Thompson in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. As Sandberg started to distance himself from the field, Thompson and Hanson battled for second. A caution regrouped the field with four laps to go. Strothman wins IMCA Stock Car classic at CJ

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – Corey Strothman prevailed in a classic when The Class Too Tough To Tame took to the track Friday at CJ Speedway. The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature took the green with Brandon Jay leading before fourth starting Strothman took over the point position. Strothman and Jason See went on to race side-by-side for the majority of the race, and with slide jobs and diamond corner moves taking place neither driver was able to take control of the race. Strothman finally took the win half a car length ahead of See with a fast-closing Adam Bell crossing under the checkers in third. “We touched once on the back chute but Jason and I race together a lot and I feel comfortable racing like that with him,” Strothman said from victory lane. The Mach-1 Sport Compacts saw pole sitter Codey Staley lead the caution-free 12-lap feature flag to flag. Staley cruised to the impressive win ahead of Brad Havel and William Michel.

IMCA Late Model awards are new from FAST

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – FAST expands its IMCA awards program again in 2020, giving a combination of product and product certificate awards in three divisions. National rookies of the year in the IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and now IMCA Sunoco Late Model divisions all receive ignition boxes from the Memphis, Tenn., high performance parts manufacturer. Product certificates good for $100 again go to the other Modified and Stock Car regional rookies of the year, as well as to sixth through 10th place drivers in national point standings for the Late Models. Dodge City Raceway Park practice this Sunday

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – With the opening weekend of racing action at Dodge City Raceway Park little more than one week away, the track will host an open practice this Sunday, June 14. Sunday’s practice session will get under way at 5 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. Practice sessions will take place upon both the 3/8-mile clay oval and the 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. with general admission gates open at 3 p.m. Pit admission is $20 per person with admission to the grandstands free. Sunday’s practice precedes a season that kicks off Saturday, June 20, with the Hobby Stock Roundup, featuring a $750-to-win and $75-to-start feature event for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. IMCA Stock Car heavyweights square off at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 10) – The drivers running 1-2 in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career wins ran 1-2 in a battle for the ages Wednesday at Stuart Speedway. Brad Derry and Shawn Ritter lined up on the front row. Mike Nichols jumped to the lead on lap one and after a couple of cautions looked to cruise to the win, but a caution on lap 17 bunched the field and gave 11th starting Damon Murty a shot. The top two put on a show over the last two laps and it was Nichols with a couple of strong moves to hang onto the lead and take the win by a half a car length. Murty finished in second with Todd VanEaton, Josh Daniels and Buck Schafroth the rest of the top five. John Davis and Scott Bash led the IMCA Modified field to the green flag. Border closure forces changes in Dakota Classic IMCA Tour schedule

MANDAN, N.D. – The 31st annual Moritz Sport & Marine Powered by Bismarck Motor Company Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour has announced a change in their schedule as Estevan, Sask., will not be able to host what was to be the opening night of the Tour on Saturday, July 11 due to an extension of the border closure resulting from the Covid 19 situation. The tour has been working on a “Plan B” for several weeks in case Estevan could not race. The operators of the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., were contacted and an agreement has been secured that will allow the tour to start in West Fargo on Friday, July 10. Red River Valley Speedway hosted a tour event way in 1991 when the track was a ½-mile facility. The current track is now 3/8 mile with a huge grandstand and parking for over 300 tow rigs in their large pit area. Path, Port make for first PASS double

By Frank Buhrman SPRING RUN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Sprint Series will race at both Path Valley Motor Speedway and Port Royal Speedway this weekend, its first “double” in the corona virus-delayed 2020 season. The 1/4-mile mountainside Path Valley track at Spring Run will see IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars in an action-packed Saturday, June 13 program. Gates open at 4 p.m. with warm-ups beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for students 10 and under. COVID-19 waiver forms will be required Saturday and may be printed out from the track website and completed in advance. Social distancing standards will be observed with masks optional. URSS set to invade RPM Speedway for Sunflower Classic

HAYS, Kan. – The Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series will invade RPM Speedway this Saturday and Sunday, June 13 and 14 for the Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic in Hays, Kan. This race, originally scheduled for late March, is expected to draw a great field of cars as racing has opened back up in the state of Kansas. With this being the first two day show for the traveling IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series and paying $1,000 to win both days, cars from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas are expected to attend. Weekly racers ready to go Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. – Between rainouts and special events at U.S. 36 Raceway, a month has passed since the weekly competitors at all competed on the same night. Friday, June 12, the weekly racers ready to challenge the high banks once again.
