IMCA sets maximum rear tail height for Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA has announced that maximum rear tail heights for Stock Cars will be set at 42 inches and at 40 inches for Hobby Stocks. The rule goes into effect on June 1. Height measurements will be enforced across the top of the rear tailpiece in both divisions. “The rear tailpiece mounting rule, along with the rule that doesn’t permit any rear bumper bars to be lower than the tailpiece, has always controlled this issue,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “The height of aftermarket tailpieces has always been in the 20-23 inch range and we do not permit additional plastic to be mounted to the bottom of the tailpiece. All of these issues control the rear trunk height. However, creative personal interpretation and ignoring some of these rules in combination with adjustable body mounts has forced IMCA to publish a dimension that all cars will be required to follow.” “Due to the different body makes and models IMCA permits in the Stock Car division, 42 inches is plenty of rear tail height in that [Read More]

Spring Fling checkers fly for James

By Stephanie Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 23) – Cottage Grove Speedway was in action for the Spring Fling doubleheader weekend and while wet weather washed away the Saturday program, Bricen James topped the IMCA Modified main event on Friday .  Paul Rea set the pace in the first few laps.  The Eugene veteran was at the point of the pack until lap three when Jeffrey Hudson got around him.  Hudson, from the central Oregon town of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, stayed there for the majority of the race.  Hudson was overtaken late, on lap 18, by Albany’s Bricen James.  James had to deal with a couple of stoppages which meant he had to deal with a handful of restarts.  Bricen mastered each of them and the seventh starting driver went on to win his first race of the 2021 campaign. Corbett chauffeur Collen Winebarger got second while third place was credited to Curtis Towns, of Cottage Grove.  Albany’s Matthew Drager and Otis teenager Eston Whisler were fourth and fifth in [Read More]

Duke rules PASS at Port Royal

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, PA. (APRIL 24) – “It seems like forever since we won a race.” For 2019 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national and Pennsylvania Sprint Series champion Ken Duke Jr., that was an understandable thought. After scoring eight victories in that magical season, he only visited victory lane once in 2020, on July 11 at his hometown Selinsgrove Speedway.  There were plenty of good finishes – 12 top five’s – but then only the one last year and none so far in 2021, so it made Saturday’s Port Royal Speedway win, the 17th victory of his PASS career, special. “We got a good pill draw tonight (starting second in the feature),” Duke said from victory lane. “The track was to our liking. They did a great job with the surface here. We got lucky, we started on the front row that makes things so much easier.”  Duke slipped past fellow front-row starter Rowdy Heffner in the second turn of the first lap and was untouchable in clean air, but some struggling in [Read More]
