Saltzman beats odds in race to Shelby County IMCA Late Model crown

OMAHA, Neb. – A driver who beat the odds just to race raced to the IMCA Sunoco Late Model track title at Shelby County Speedway. Brandon Saltzman, first diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer in the summer of 2019, earned that title in dramatic fashion on the Harlan, Iowa, speedplant’s championship night Aug. 21.  “My aim this season was to get a track championship,” said Saltzman, 23 years old and from Omaha. “It feels amazing … it hasn’t clicked yet but I know I’m in the history book. I’m still having a hard time grasping the fact that I’m a track champion.”  He’d started the championship night show 11th and drove to fifth before the caution light came on with three laps left. Rotors glowing, Saltzman went to the pits, returned to start at the back of the field and ran the rest of the way with no rear brakes, ending in 10th. When standings were figured later that evening, he’d edged A.J. Jorgensen and Robbie Jorgensen by all of three points. The [Read More]

By George, Riden ends nine year PASS drought!

By Frank Buhrman YORK HAVEN, Pa. (Aug. 29) – George Riden had been trying to get his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car out to the track more often. It paid off Sunday night, when the Elizabethtown veteran won his first Pennsylvania Sprint Series race in nine years, taking the 20-lap feature at BAPS Motor Speedway. Riden drew the outside pole and took the lead from polesitter Drew Young on lap three. He then fought off a ferocious challenge from Dom Melair, whose efforts to go past the leader fell just short. “Work has gotten pretty busy,” Riden said in victory lane. “Racing had to be put on the backburner but these guys over here have been working their butts off and we finally found some speed. It’s been a long time, man, so I’m just happy, just happy.” The win was Riden’s seventh with PASS but his first since Sept. 29, 2112. All six previous wins were at Path Valley Speedway. The veteran racer was a PASS regular from 2005-13 but has run sporadically since then [Read More]

BOONE, Iowa – The thrill of winning the inaugural B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will be a career highlight for any driver.  It’ll be worth a pretty good chunk of change, too.  On top of a $1,000 check and lap money, the winner of the Sept. 9 All-Star Invitational for Stock Cars at Boone Speedway goes home with a chassis courtesy of title sponsor B & B Racing Chassis of Belle Plaine, Minn.  Price tag on the chassis itself would be $5,000.
