MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 11, 2022) – The Maquoketa Speedway dodged the predicted wet weather on Saturday night and held a fast, action-packed night of racing on the very smooth, fast ¼-mile dirt oval. 

The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature that went 20 laps caution-free. Travis Denning was able to get past early leader Spencer Diercks and move into the lead just before lap 10 and went on to record his third win at the Maquoketa Speedway in 2022. Diercks held off the 2021 track champion Jeff Larson at the checkers. 

Jacob Ellithorpe had his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car back in fine form on Saturday night. Ellithorpe had spent countless hours in the garage making repairs following an incident that caused severe damage to the drive train in his no. 72 Stock car. Ellithorpe scored a comfortable win in the 15-lap main event. Rick Schriner came under the checkers in second ahead of Richard Nelson.

Jarrett Franzen scored his first hometown win in the very tough Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod division. Franzen took the lead from early leader Randy Butterbrodt and hold off three-time Maquoketa Speedway winner Shane Paris for the win. Tyler Soppe recovered from an early race miscue to charge back to a third place finish.  

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event saw a very spirited battle between Brandon White and Randy LaMar. La Mar tried every line on the smooth track to get by White but the youngster held his line lap after lap taking the win by less than half a car length. Lukas Short took third on Saturday night.

Deery Series doubleheader next at Maquoketa, Independence

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of famil­iar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start.  Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students and free for kids ages 12 and under, while pit passes are $30. Maquoketa Speedway to host inaugural Gil Short Memorial 

By Jerry Mackey  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Sept. 19, 2022) – Maquoketa Speedway will bring the 2022 racing season to a close this weekend with the first annual running of the Gil Short Memorial. Two full nights of racing will be held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds quarter-mile dirt track. Short was the chief and founder of the Speedway Fire Rescue group that serves many Eastern Iowa race tracks by providing safety equipment and personnel.  The Friday, Sept. 23 program sees Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds headlining the action with a $1,200 first place prize on the line. Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods battle it out for a $750 top prize, also racing will be the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Friday night will also be the Maquoketa Speedway 2022 Hall Of Fame Induction night. Honorees will include Phil Roberts, Larry Goldbeck, Dan Garland and Duke Jackson. Lemke, Larson, Franzen, LaMar are All Star Night winners

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 13, 2024) – The Darkside Promotions All Star Night welcomed over 100 race cars on a warm Mid-April evening on Saturday night. The race hungry fans were treated to an exciting night of racing.  Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds saw Illinois un-retired driver Scotte Lemke pick up the win. Lemke was a fixture at Tri-State tracks in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s before sitting out for 16 years. The veteran showed he still is to be reckoned with as he led all 30 laps in route to the win. Jeff Larson applied pressure in the early going and it appeared the friends were going to provide a thrilling race but Larson was sidelined with tire failure as the race passed midway. Dan Roedl and Drew Janssen applied the heat to Lemke in the latter half of the main.
