Benton County Fair races postponed to Sunday

VINTON, Iowa (June 24) – Rainy weather has forced the postponement of the 2021 Benton County Fair races. Originally scheduled for Thursday, June 24, the annual fair races at The Bullring have been rescheduled for Sunday, June 27, pending an improved weather forecast for county fair events. While the race date has changed, increased prize money for the fair race remains up-for-grabs Sunday for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto Service, Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Kwik Star and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts presented by Auto Crafters. SportMods will compete for a $750 winner’s share and $100 to start on Sunday, Stock Cars $500 to win and $100 to start, Hobby Stocks $400 and $75, and Sport Compacts $250 and $75. Morris gets first feature win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 23) – Bryan Morris made his way to victory lane following his first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod win Wednesday at Stuart Speedway. The Northern SportMods were first up with Blair Simmons and Morris on the front row. Morris took charge early with Dusty Masolini and Cam Reimers in tow. A caution with nine laps down bunched the field but Morris was too strong as he went on to the win, his first ever in the division. Second was Masolini, Brayton Carter third, Reimers fourth and Colton Nelson fifth. Next up were the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars with Zac Johnson and Miciah Hidlebaugh leading the field to the green flag. IMCA Modified, Stock, Northern SportMod drivers earn Fox Shocks product certificates

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Fox Shocks has renewed a post-season awards program for drivers in three IMCA divisions. Osborn drives to Dawson County checkers

(June 20) – Honoring a former racer and die-hard fan, competitors at Dawson County Raceway challenged tooth and nail to earn the privilege of driving into the winners circle on Fred Beardsley Memorial Night Sunday evening. Working through traffic, Colton Osborn was able to walk away with the victory in the IMCA Modified feature. Osborn started on the outside of the second row and was fifth overall at the end of the first lap when he started his climb to the front. It was on lap eight that Osborn was able to power his way into the lead and never look back to earn the victory. Three IMCA divisions in action at Aztec after end of 638 day racing hiatus in New Mexico

AZTEC, N.M. – Six hundred-plus days of waiting to race ended for drivers and fans at Aztec Speedway on June 11. After hosting its final IMCA races on Aug. 10 and last event of the season in September of 2019, the New Mexico speedplant was shuttered by the Covid-19 pandemic and its accompanying health and social guidelines for all of 2020. Hoping to get the green flag from the governor’s office, promoter Mike Tenski and his crew started getting the 3/8-mile clay oval race ready this May. After receiving the go-ahead from Santa Fe, they put quick final touches on the track surface, bleachers, restrooms and concession stands over nine days leading up to the re-opening weekend. “While we were getting ready, we held our breath hoping everything would go right. Hoosier product bulletin for grooving IMCA tires

LAKEVILLE, Ind. (June 23) – With the recent announcement of the IMCA rules modification to allow grooving on the IMCA G60 tire, we felt it was important to release some guidelines for this process so drivers can avoid common mistakes and get the most benefit from this new rule. The full intent of this rules modification was to potentially help customers get extra life from their IMCA G60’s. Grooving can be a useful tool in recreating the factory edge to the block and reducing block stiffness on a used tire, so its performance more closely matches a new tire. We would NOT recommend grooving brand new tires. New tires are already as aggressive as a tire will ever be, so grooving them will only reduce the block stiffness and INCREASE tire wear on a new tire without dramatically assisting performance. We would recommend that after the 2nd night of racing on an IMCA G60, customers should recut the factory groove lines with a #3 width grooving blade. Erickson takes tall trophy at Arlington Raceway

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 19) – Drivers raced hard and furiously for the big trophies Farmer Brown Motorsports provided for the evening Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Joshua Winsky led the first lap from his front row start but there was a first lap caution flag which restacked the Mach-1 Sport Compact field and when the race finally got going, Jaedon Erickson led the pack for nine laps to win the race. Brett McConnell gained several positions on a restart and tried to catch Erickson but settled for second ahead of J.R. Esqueda. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature had two different leaders with Brandon Allen and Brandon Buysse on the front row. Allen got a commanding lead but a couple of yellow flags were thrown when cars spun on lap seven and Buysse took full advantage as he got the edge on Allen and pulled away from him. (June 19) – The second and final night of the Father’s Day Weekend doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway was on Saturday, with three IMCA divisions on the card. Paul Culp took charge at the start of the IMCA Modified main. Unfortunately, Culp spun on lap seven, handing first place to Paul Rea, who then had to deal with several restarts from some fast drivers nipping at his heels. Despite all the advances and the potential moves to overtake him, Rea held his composure to win his first race of the season. He joins the victor’s list in Cottage Grove Speedway, KMJ Performance Oregon State, and Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition. It is his first IMCA Modified win since Sept. 19, 2020, also at Cottage Grove. Chad Groves was runner-up with Jake Mayden third. Curtis Towns was fourth while fifth was Derick Young. Willamette Speedway completes first race of 2021

The last time the Lebanon facility was in action was for the Ice Cube Cup in October 2020. Bricen James tamed the field in IMCA Modified action. The Albany sensation has four wins on the current campaign across KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition. James’ last win came on June 5 at Cottage Grove Speedway. Grey Ferrando was the runner-up while Jeremy Shank scored third. John Campos hit the line fourth with fifth going to Eston Whisler. Eugene’s Jack Vicari made history Saturday night. He became the first-ever Mach-1 Sport Compact winner in Willamette Speedway history. It is his first win of the season as well as KMJ Performance Oregon State action.
