Late leads pay off in Off Road features

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 30, 2022) – Getting the lead early wasn’t an advantage in any of the four features Saturday night at Off Road Speedway. The winners in each, the IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, didn’t obtain the lead until at least midway through their respective races, but all made it to victory lane. Matt Haase, for example, needed 13 of the Late Models’ 25 laps to move up from his middle-of-the-field starting position, but when he got to the front he took full advantage of the opportunity, earning his first Off Road Speedway win of the season. Haase, who had only one other top five finish in eight feature performances, passed Devin Johnson in turn four of the first lap following a caution, then sped away from the rest of the pack and also effectively handled lapped traffic to win handily with second-place finisher Cory Dumpert unable to make up ground. IMCA Modifieds look to lasso $1,000 at I-37 on Aug. 6

PLEASANTON, Texas (Aug. 1, 2022) – A $1,000 check and Fast Shafts All-Star qualifying eligibility await the winner of the Saturday, Aug. 6 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at I-37 Speedway. Sundowner RV of Kerrville is sponsor of the evening’s race program and pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 pm. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Kaplan takes thriller at Stuart’s Clint Walrod Memorial

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 27, 2022) – Karl Chevrolet of Stuart International Speedway had 125 cars in the pits for the Clint Walrod Memorial Wednesday night. Feature winners were Michael Hotze, Cam Reimers, Austin Kaplan, Cody Laney and Dylan Nelson. The first feature on the track was the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts with Hotze, Tyler Fiebelkorn and Kolby Sabin battling over the top three spots. Hotze stretched his lead out to just over a second and went on to the $1,000 feature win, his first in the division. Sabin came out on top in the battle for second with Fiebelkorn third, Jake Walding fourth and Ryan Brown fifth. Howard rumbles to Saturday checkers at Desert Thunder

Howard’s ninth win of the season paid $1,000 courtesy of Castleview Hospital in Price and made him eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. The defending track champion pulled ahead of the leaders midway through the race and finished ahead of the pack. “The win feels amazing. SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 28, 2022) – Tyler Wilson achieved two goals with one win on fair night at Outagamie Speedway. Driving for John Heinz, Wilson raced to his career first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature victory on July 22 at Seymour. Point fund checks, IMCA.TV bonuses awarded to Dakota Tour drivers

VINTON, Iowa (July 28, 2022) – Point fund checks totaling $10,000 and another $1,980 in IMCA.TV DCMT bonuses were mailed this week to Friesen Performance IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers competing in the July 9-14 Corral Sales IMCA Dakota Classic Tour. Top 10 drivers in both divisions receive point fund monies from IMCA and Hoosier Race Tire while top three finishing local Modified drivers each night of the tour receive $110 bonuses from IMCA.TV. Tom Berry Jr. earned the lion’s share of Modified purses, winning all six features and $12,000 during the week, complementing that amount with a $1,600 share of the $6,500 point fund for that division. CJ checkers fly for McDaniel, Roth

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 22, 2022) – Friday night racing action at the CJ Speedway saw two more drivers add their names to the first time winners list in 2022 at the Louisa County Fairgrounds oval. Jason McDaniel has raced on and off at CJ Speedway but had not won a race on the 4/10th mile dirt track since the 2018 season. McDaniel led the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature flag to flag en route to the win. The feature went under caution late and the restart saw the top five positions shuffled as Kirk Kinsley took advantage of the restart and raced into second and was closing in on McDaniel as the checkers waved. Mullen, Wilson are first at Outagamie fair

Wyatt Block set the pace early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 20-lap feature while Mullen set up shop on the outside groove. Mullen use his momentum to take the top spot on lap five, then distanced himself from the field and leaving the battle for second between Block and Jayden Schmidt. Mullen had the race in hand but a caution with five laps remaining reset the field. Schmidt began to pressure Mullen using the low groove. With two laps remaining, Schmidt worked past Mullen out of turn two but the caution flew, erasing the pass and giving the lead back to Mullen. On the final restart, Mullen switched to the low groove and held off Schmidt to earn his third feature win of the season.
