Tiger Rear Ends adds bite to Deery, IMCA Late Model awards program

MOUNT ULLA, N.C. – IMCA Late Model drivers will share $5,000 in contingency awards from new sponsor Tiger Rear Ends. The aftermarket rear end manufacturer, located in Mount Ulla, N.C., will give $250 product certificates to top five drivers in point standings for the Deery Brothers Summer Series and national IMCA Late Model point standings for the 2014 and 2015 race seasons. “We want to get our name out there to more drivers,” said company co-founder and president Gerald Williams. “We want them to know about the quality of our rear ends and the precise machining we do. Ten Modified drivers punch tickets into Clash at the Creek

(June 25) – Ten IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers have punched their tickets into Thursday’s $10,000 to win main event at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek. Mike Mullen of Suamico, Darin Duffy of Urbana, Iowa, Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Ark., Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., Scott Hogan of Vinton, Iowa, Eric Mahlik of Green Bay, James Tebon of Algoma, Troy Cordes of Dunkerton, Iowa, Johnny Whitman of DePere and Sean Jerovetz of Sobieski are locked into the show by virtue of their top 10 in the standings. Last chance races will be held Thursday to add the final 14 drivers to the main event field. Deery Series heads to Independence for pre-holiday show

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 25) – Still looking for a repeat winner this season, the Deery Brothers Summer Series heads to Independence for a pre-holiday show next Tuesday, July 1. IMCA Late Models contend for $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates and the grandstand at Indee both open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and free for kids 11 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. The first six tour events of 2014 have produced as many different winners, the most recent of them Jeff Aikey last night at Marshalltown Speedway. DeVilbiss doubles up at Cortez while BSR SportMod wins go to Eddleman, Higgins

CORTEZ, Colo. (June 20-21) – Another Border States Racing Series doubleheader resulted in another sweep for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Zane DeVilbiss. Jordan Eddleman and Rex Higgins, meanwhile, became the fourth and fifth IMCA SportMod drivers to end their night in victory lane when the tour traveled to Fairgrounds Speedway. With a pair of wins from the series’ opening twinbill already to his credit, DeVilbiss raced from ninth starting on Friday and from eighth starting Saturday to take the checkers at Cortez. He used all lines on the multi-groove oval to take the lead on the 10th of 30 circuits on Friday. Aaron Spangler and Eddie Farley were next across the stripe. Traveling Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. The runner-up earns $1,050, with $950 for third and $850 for fourth. Aikey adds bonuses to Deery Series payday at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 24) – On a night when Marshalltown Speedway continued its 50th anniversary celebration, an IMCA Late Model driver with more than his share of tour success celebrated another Deery Brothers Summer Series victory. Jeff Aikey led start to finish in the Miller Lite 50 event, earning a $3,000 share of the purse plus a pair of $500 bonuses along with his 62nd career Deery win. One of seven drivers from the track’s 1985-1990 Late Model era competing Tuesday night, the seven-time series champion pocketed those bonuses from H & F Distributing for winning the feature and from former promoter Steve Priske, now owner of Rumor’s Bar & Grill, as the highest finishing veteran in the main event. Tulp, Swanson each win third Hancock County features

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (June 20) – Heath Tulp and Shane Swanson each won their third feature of the season Friday at Hancock County Speedway while Keith Schmitz and Ken Winkowitsch were first-time winners. Tulp came from the outside of the fifth row in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Dan Hanselman had a nice run to take second with Craig Berhow third, Blake Cole fourth and David Wickman fifth. The scenario in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods was the same as Swanson also came from outside the fifth row. Anthony Condit had his best run of the year to take second with Aaron Benson, Nate Chodur and Nate Hughes completing the top five. Inaugural Thunderhill Raceway Hall of Fame induction is June 28

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Race fans, old timers and historians this is a night you want to attend as Thunderhill Raceway will induct the first seven members into its Hall of Fame. The inaugural Class of 2014 will be inducted this Saturday, June 28. Hall of Famers are Clyde LeMieux Sr., Irv Ettien, Les Sternard, Dale Knudson, Joe Haferkorn, Butch Georgenson and Fritz VanDuyse. The program is sponsored by Wicked Witch Enterprises. Tom Wagner is hosting the night’s events and will be calling the action on the track as well. Five divisions do battle Saturday, the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and the Street Stocks. The bounty for anyone who can beat Bill LeMieux in the Street Stocks now stands at $400. The only rules to the bounty are that LeMieux must finish and it must be clean race.
