Another record car count set as Taylor builds on Dakota Tour success at Estevan

ESTEVAN, Sask. (July 7) – Despite leading all 30 laps, Jeff Taylor got to enjoy Monday’s Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour main event at Estevan Motor Speedway from a couple perspectives. Taylor won his second IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour event in as many nights while Steven Pfeifer was second and Shawn Anderson fourth in Taylor Chassis rides. “I’d have been happy with either one of them passing me and winning,” Taylor said. “I’d have been tickled to death.” The win was worth $2,000 and came in a contest slowed by caution just once, on lap 12. Curt Lund was third and Shawn Anderson fifth. Seventy-six Modifieds from 14 states and Canada ran at Estevan. Mid-Summer Classic this Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park

IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will headline Saturday’s Mid-Summer Classic with Pure Stocks, Renegades, Dwarf Cars and X Mods on the card as well. After a Wednesday night open practice session from 6-9 p.m., Saturday’s Mid-Summer Classic goes green at 7 p.m. Ricky Thornton Jr., will try to continue his dominance in the Modified ranks by adding another notch to the win column. Thornton has racked up eight feature wins in 10 tries dating back to the Winter Challenge in January. Thornton has opened up a 22 point advantage in the track championship points race over Ryan Roath, with Cody Center just three more points back in third. Phillips tops Stock Car headliner at Cardinal’s Kelly Sheen Memorial

EUNICE, N.M (July 5) – David Phillips was a runner-up at last year’s Kelly Sheen Memorial Topless Shootout at Cardinal Speedway. He was a winner at this year’s event, taking the $3,000 checkers in Saturday’s headliner for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. “This was a pretty cool race to win,” he said, after watching the video. “It’s an honor to win it, based on what this show is.” Phillips started fifth and needed seven laps to get the lead. He pulled away from the field following two restarts later in the 30-lapper. Bilstein continues contingency awards for five IMCA divisions

POWAY, Calif. – Competitors in five IMCA divisions earn contingencies again this season from Bilstein Shocks. The Poway, Calif., manufacturer gives those awards to IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod drivers. Top eligible drivers in each of the five Modified regions receive $350 product certificates, with $250 for second and $200 for third. Certificates to the top three eligible drivers in both Stock Car regions will be given in increments of $350, $250 and $150. The top three in both Hobby Stock regions and in national Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod point standings receive product certificates valued at $300, $200 and $100, respectively. In addition to competing with four Bilstein shocks, drivers in all five divisions must display two Bilstein decals on their race car and return a sign-up form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1. Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series at 1-88 Speedway for July 11 show

AFTON, N.Y. (July 8) – I-88 Speedway hosts round four of the Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series, as IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds journey to Afton for a Friday, July 11 show. The feature pays $600 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points, but no local track points will be awarded. Dailey is surprise winner in Fairmont Redline Racing Parts North Star Series feature

FAIRMONT, Minn. (July 4) – Eric Dailey became the surprise winner of a rain-shortened Redline Racing Parts North Star Series feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds Friday at Fairmont Raceway. He’d started fifth and was up to third before lining up on the outside for a lap five restart. He slowly reeled in Jeff Ignaszewski and then Roger Nielsen for the lead and was still in front when rain forced an early end half way through the scheduled 20-lapper. “I just came around and there were the double checkers,” Dailey said. Littlejohn comes up big on night two at HO’T

That improvement paid $1,000 and put him on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Littlejohn won Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Heart O’ Texas Speedway after race-long leader Dean Abbey suffered mechanical problems following a late restart. Hallas WACO, Texas (July 4) – First-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Dean Abbey had the run of his life in picking up the $1,000 Lone Star Series Texas Nationals win Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. For two-thirds of the race Abbey chased veteran Keith Green until finally making the bottom work on a restart. If that wasn’t pressure enough, a late caution set up a green, white, checkered finish that put former IMCA national champion Keith White and his brother Paul, a past USAC Silver Crown champ, on his tail. Abbey was able to get a good jump on green and got some breathing room while the White brothers exchanged slide jobs on each other. MINOT, N.D. (July 6) – Jeff Taylor left the gremlins back home in Arkansas. Taylor led all 30 laps of Sunday’s Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Nodak Speedway. The $2,000 victory came on a record-setting opening night for the 25th annual series and clearly got Taylor’s title quest started right. “We came here better prepared than last year and didn’t have to fight the gremlins off,” said Taylor, ninth in the 2013 tour point standings. “I wasn’t very good in hot laps but we loosened the car a bunch and I had a good car in my heat and the feature. Marshalltown Speedway celebrates 50th on The Fourth

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 4) – Marshalltown Speedway celebrated its 50th anniversary with fireworks and visits by dignitaries of the track’s racing history Friday night. Luke Wanninger took over the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified lead on lap 11 and drove to his fourth win here in 2014. Ronn Lauritzen worked his way up to finish second. Tyler Droste was third, Tony Snyder was fourth and Joel Rust was fifth. Dave Atcher held Donavon Smith at bay over the last eight laps to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Clint Luellen inherited the lead when mechanical problems sidelined Jenae Gustin Luellen and held off several challenges from Andy Tiernan over the last four circuits to take his fifth Big Eight Tyre Center IMCA Northern SportMod win of the year at Marshalltown. After capitalizing on a late restart, Eric Stanton sped to his third local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory of the season. David Moorman led start to finish in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main.
