Second try for opening fight Friday at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. – Last week the engines roared to life as cars took to the Salina Speedway’s 3/8 mile oval for the first time in 2015. It was short-lived, however, as severe storms closed in and forced the cancellation of the night’s events before they got started. Race teams and fans are now anticipating the second take on opening night Friday, May 1. All that was completed in last week’s show was hot laps, so this week’s racing will start from scratch, with seven divisions competing in qualifying heat races and features. Those divisions are the BSB Manufacturing NeSmith Late Models, 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, Xtreme Motorsports IMCA Northern SportMods, Auto House Mod Lites, Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stocks, and M&H Motors IMCA Sport Compacts. JC Dubil renews awards for Deery Series, IMCA Stock Car special events competitors

BETTENDORF, Iowa – JC Dubil continues an awards program benefitting Deery Brothers Summer Series and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special events drivers this season. Product certificates valued at $100 will be given at each of the 18 events in the IMCA Late Model tour and at 15 designated Stock Car specials. This is JC Dubil’s 17th season as an IMCA partner. Certificates will be mailed from the IMCA home office the week after the series or special event is held. DAVENPORT, Iowa – After last week’s rainout, Davenport Speedway will host the Koehler Electric season opener this Friday, May 1. All five weekly classes, Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds, Koehler Electric Street Stocks, Hawkeye Auto IMCA Northern SportMods and Roto-Rooter 4-Stocks, will be in action on the 1/4-mile dirt oval. Defending track champions are Justin Kay, Late Model; Doug Crampton, Modified; Bryce Garnhart, Northern SportMod; Donnie Louck, Street Stock; and Brandon Dahl, 4-Stock. Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport. Pit gates open Friday at 4:30 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Make A Wish Night is Saturday at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A $1,000 to win feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds is on the program during Bakersfield Speedway’s Make A Wish Night this Saturday, May 2. The Modified event is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Funds raised Saturday go to local Make A Wish families in Kern County. Hobby Stocks, American Stocks, Mod Lites and Mini Dwarfs also race. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under.

Edge goes to Carter in photo finish at Osky

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 29) – Cayden Carter was first to the checkers in a three-wide Budweiser IMCA Stock Car photo finish Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. A late caution set the stage for the green, white, checkered ending. Zack VanderBeek was a very close second and Nathan Wood was right behind in third. Daniel Hilsabeck and VanderBeek had battled for the early lead while Wood and Carter jousted for third. VanderBeek grabbed the top spot on lap 10 and Carter and Wood got by Hilsabeck for second and third place, respectively, on lap 11. That’s where it really got exciting as VanderBeek, Carter and Wood got into a three-car battle. Andrew Schroeder earned the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified win ahead of Carter. Ashley returns to Cottage Grove on Fan Appreciation Night

Willamette fights hunger this Saturday

Genesis Racing Shocks gives contingencies in four IMCA divisions

ROSWELL, Ga. – Genesis Racing Shocks will give contingency awards to drivers in four IMCA divisions for a seventh consecutive season. Top eligible drivers in each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions and in national IMCA Late Model, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod standings each receive $350 product certificates from the Roswell, Ga., company. Certificates valued at $250 go to each runner-up and at $150 to each third-place finisher. Drivers in all four divisions must compete with four Genesis-manufactured shocks, display two Genesis decals on their race car and return a signup form to the IMCA home office by Aug. 1 to be eligible. Weekly racing resumes Sunday at Seymour

Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Northern SportMods, Turbo Blue Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders will be joined by the spectator eliminators for the first time this season.
