By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. Wild was under constant pressure from Williamson but each time it seemed the challenger had the position secured the yellow would come out resulting in Wild retaining the lead. On lap 21, defending champion Alex Stanford negotiated his way into the lead and took right off.  Stanford was catching lapped traffic before getting into the wall after contact was made with a lapped car on lap 37. Stanford was towed off the track and Williamson moved to the front for the restart. With a handful of laps to go, Williamson stayed in front the rest of the way for his third main event of the 2015 Shootout and second career Shootout win at SSP. Wild ended [Read More]

Forty-three cars from eight states and Canada were on hand for the Tuesday show. Californian Troy Foulger was the early leader before giving way to Williamson on lap five. Williamson appeared to have checked out and had the race won until going off of turns three and four on lap 16. He got back on the track but relinquished the front spot to defending champ Alex Stanford. Cautions took lapped traffic out of play while Stanford continued to lead and Williamson worked his way through the field. Williamson found his way around Stanford on the 28th circuit, just before the caution flag came out. Shortly after the restart, Mark Carrell came out of nowhere on the [Read More]

Hensley flawless in first Northern SportMod win

By Don Martin II CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (June 13) – Josh Hensley ran a smooth race up front and was rewarded with his first career 20 lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory Saturday at Chowchilla Speedway. Hensley had to deal with pressure from Rick Diaz and Keith Brown Jr. throughout the race. However, Hensley kept his cool and led every lap in victory. Diaz suffered a flat right rear tire with seven laps remaining and surrendered second to Brown. Brown tried making the low pass for the win but settled for second. Diaz charged back to finish third ahead of Nick Tucker and Marisa Odgers. Watsonville visitor Tim Clark Jr. won the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA IMCA Modified 20-lapper. Clark grabbed the lead from early leader Ray Mayer on a lap 11 restart and led the rest of the way. Contact sent Mayer spinning from second on lap 18. Harley Turner finished second.

Four first-time winners at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (June 13) – Saturday’s race program saw four first-time winners at Rolling Plains Motor Speedway. In the S & W Supply IMCA Modified feature, Corey Lagroon led the first two laps before Jeremy Zorn took over the top spot in what proved to be a caution-free 20-lapper. Tenth starting Dylan Sherfick slowly worked his way through the field and used lapped traffic to his advantage to get by Zorn on lap 18 to take the lead and hold on for the win. Steven Bowers Jr. finished third. Jeff Tubbs held off a hard-charging Chad Sterling for top honors in the Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car feature. Trevor Schmidt led the first four laps before the first caution waved.  On the restart, Tubbs passed Schmidt to take the lead. Schmidt stayed close and passed Tubbs on lap 11, but that was short lived as Tubbs regained the lead on lap 13 and held on for a trip to the winner’s circle. First IMCA win comes at Coos Bay for Martin

By Ben Deatherage COOS BAY, Ore. (June 15) – The third night of the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout ended with a third different driver in victory lane. Brad Martin got the best of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified field at Coos Bay Speedway, taking the $1,000 checkers and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth despite the best efforts of Danny Lauer. The win was Martin’s IMCA career first. Thirty-three drivers from eight states and Canada vied at Coos Bay. Martin drew the pole and maintained the lead following a handful of cautions throughout the first 10 laps. As the green flag run continued, he started to catch up with the back of the pack. While struggling to handle traffic, Martin had to fight off the ultra fast Lauer. Lauer beat Martin to the line on lap 27 but couldn’t secure the position. The front two went back and forth in a seesaw battle that was eventually resolved when Martin worked his way through the lapped cars. California drivers filled out the rest of [Read More]

Antioch win by Wilson comes in front of bumper bending

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 13) – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner Kyle Wilson maintained his position up front from early in the event to avoid all the bumper-bending that was going on behind him Saturday at Antioch Speedway. It was a night of fender benders in the main event as the division that had little crashing all season made up for it with two multi-car pileups juggling the field on restarts. Several caution flags flew, with two key pauses changing the outcome of the race. With six laps to go, leader Shawn DeForest bogged down in turn one, with cars behind him banging into each other to bring out the caution. With three to go, Scott Busby got too far sideways with cars again scrambling on the track. The carnage sidelined favorites DeForest, Kellen Chadwick, Bobby Hogge IV and Michael Salazar. “This is unbelievable,” Wilson said of his win. “I hadn’t won a race here in two years of trying in the Modified division.” Happiest of the top finishers was third place Nick Viscussi III. “My first race [Read More]
