Davenport Speedway hosts Modified Madness 50 this Friday

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The winner earns $2,000 for his or her on-track efforts at Davenport Speedway’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Madness 50 on Friday, May 22. The 50-lap feature is a qualifying event for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State, but no local track points will be awarded for the draw/redraw show. The $50 entry fee can be paid at the gate. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5 p.m., the drivers’ meeting is at 6 p.m. and hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. Racing on the quarter-mile oval starts at 7 p.m. Pit passes are $30. All other weekly divisions, including the IMCA Late Models and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, are on the evening’s card and race for all applicable points. IMCA Empire State Series at Black Rock, Skyline this weekend

DUNDEE, N.Y. – Two Memorial Weekend events are on tap for the IMCA Empire State Series. Traveling IMCA Xtreme Motorsports Modifieds are at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee on Friday, May 22 and at Skyline Raceway in Cortland on Sunday, May 24. The Black Rock feature pays $500 to win plus lap money. The Skyline show pays $400 to win. A minimum of $75 will be paid to start each night. Black Rock opens the pit gates at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand at 5 p.m. on Friday. Hot laps are at 6:25 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12. IMCA North Star Series opens with three Memorial Weekend dates

SLAYTON, Minn. (May 18) – Murray County Speedway hosts first-night action when the IMCA North Star Touring Series opens with three events during the Memorial holiday weekend. The fourth annual tour is at Slayton on Friday, May 22; at Arlington Raceway on Saturday, May 23; and at Redwood Speedway in Redwood Falls on Sunday, May 24. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are in action each evening. Humphries gets second Virginia Sprint Series win of season

By Jim Haines WAYNESBORO, Va. (May 16) – Tom Humphries had just enough time to get in and out of the winner’s circle before the rains came Saturday night at Eastside Speedway. The first repeat winner in the 2015 Virginia Sprint Series, Humphries took the checkers about five minutes before thunderstorms brought an end to the evening. After rain delayed the race program, Chris Ware and Bill Rice took off and led early as the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car field shuffled positions in the fast-paced feature. Ware led running the middle line as Humphries made his way to second, then went low and into the top spot on lap 10. Jerald Harris challenged and then took second from Ware before setting his sights on Humphries. Glenn Worrell and French Grimes were coming through the field as the laps clicked by. Snellenberger returns to victory lane at Thunderhill

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (May 16) – Rod Snellenberger capitalized on a late race restart to score the Saturday IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory at Thunderhill Raceway. A field of 18 Stock Cars did battle. John Anschutz and Tom Brumlic battled for the lead until lap five, when Jamie Suchocki went cruising by. Snellenberger quickly made his way from row four to second and began to pressure Suchocki. Snellenberger was glued to the leader’s back bumper. A caution with five laps remaining changed everything. With Suchocki running perfect down low, Snellenberger chose to restart up top. As the green flew, Snellenberger got a great restart and pulled past Suchocki to take the lead. Snellenberger never looked back from that point while Suchocki scored his best finish of the young season with second, Dave Bouche rallied late to place third. Hayes takes Northern SportMod foes at 141 to school

By Greg and Marco Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 15) – A week after graduating from college, Kelsy Hayes taught her Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod foes a lesson at 141 Speedway. Hayes led every lap of the Friday feature for her career first local victory. Hayes had her hands full throughout the 20-lapper, first holding off Josh Lambert and Hunter Parsons and then denying Kevin Bethke in the later circuits. Last-corner finishes are always a blast for the fans and for the winning side of finish. The IMCA Xtreme Motorsports Modified finale saw Johnny Whitman edge Shawn Kilgore by a bumper. The local win was the defending champion’s first of the season. Larry Karcz Jr. got back to winning in his second week back in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars after an off-season accident. A fog-shortened Mach-1 Sport Compact feature saw Brian Johnson pick up his first win of the season.

All hale Hale at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 16) – Jimmy Hale Jr. was the All-Star Performance IMCA Modified winner on Janet Zeigler Memorial Night Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Vern Buskirk held sway before finally being overtaken by Hale on lap 10. Hale had to outlast a couple restarts but held on to win over Dan Wiggins II, John DeYoung Jr., Chad Wernette and Myron DeYoung.

Oshkosh honors go to Wedelstadt

(May 15) – Bragging rights belonged to Mike Wedelstadt when the first round of the King of the Ring Series for Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds brought 53 entries to Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway Friday night. Twenty-four cars made up the main event grid and Wedelstadt and Brad Lautenbach started on the front row. The front pair pulled away at the start and for the first five laps ran side-by-side for the number one spot. Wedelstadt was finally able to wrestle the point away and started to open his own lead. The battle behind was for third with Brian Mullen, Todd Dart, Eric Arneson, Johnny Whitman, Eddie Muenster and Sean Jerovetz in a cluster behind. A lone caution flew for a stalled car on lap 11, and Wedelstadt resumed his lead after the restart with Lautenbach, Mullen, Dart, Arneson, Whitman, Muenster and Jerovetz now right behind. Strayer scores Modified win at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 15) – Jake Strayer held off all challengers in winning Friday’s 20-lap Coors Light IMCA Modified main event at Marshalltown Speedway. Trent Jackson took the early lead while Kyle Brown and Strayer battled behind him. After securing second, Strayer set his sights on Jackson and was in first by lap four. Strayer looked comfortable out front when the caution came out on lap seven and then again for a multiple-car incident on lap eight that resulted in a red flag. Strayer paced the rest of the distance and held off several challenges from Jimmy Gustin to take the win. Adam Larson, Brian Irvine and Josh Gilman finished third through fifth, respectively. Donavon Smith started 10th, took the lead on the 10th circuit and drove to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Keegan Scott was the fourth and final leader in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod contest. Eric Stanton took charge with two laps left and scored his second local Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock victory of the season.

Ryan, Von Dresky, Olson double-up at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 15) – Three drivers scored their second wins of the season Friday at Davenport Speedway. Matt Ryan made it two-for-two in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Joe Zrostlik started on the pole and led the first 14 laps. Ryan flew by on lap 15 and led the rest of the way. Brunson Behning started fifth and got close to Ryan a couple times but had to settle for second. Todd Malmstrom came from deep in the field to finish third. Another full field of Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds were on hand and the result was the same as Tony Von Dresky collected his second straight feature win. Chris Lawrence got to the front early in the race but on a lap four restart gave up the spot to Doug Crampton. Seconds later, Crampton’s car suddenly slowed.
