Bruening takes Independence Late Model win

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 23) – A strong field of 119 cars battled each other and Mother Nature at the Independence Motor Speedway Saturday night. Rain started to move in as the final two features hit the track but all main events were completed before the rain came in for good. Bobby Hansen took the early lead in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature and was able to build a commanding lead. Tyler Bruening started 10th and worked through the field until he found himself second as lap nine was completed. Bruening worked to chip away at the straightaway lead Hansen had built. By lap 15, Bruening caught Hansen and took the lead the very next lap. Bruening raced off to the win. Hansen fin­ished second. Curt Martin, Tyler Droste, and Curt Martin closed out the top five. Gustin repeats Late Model heroics at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 21) – Richie Gustin repeated as the Rumours Sports Bar & Grill IMCA Late Model feature winner Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Gustin gained the lead from Jason Hahne following an early restart. Todd Cooney outdueled crowd favorite Darrel DeFrance for second. Hahne fell back to fourth and Chris Snyder was fifth. Tom Berry made the long trip from Oregon and grabbed the lead early in the Coors Light IMCA Modified feature. The red flag came out on lap four after Tyler Gross rolled off the top of turn two. Chris Abelson worked his way from 10th starting to the lead by lap five. After the caution come out for the final time on lap 15, Abelson sped to his second local win. Jake Strayer, Ronn Lau­ritzen. Guss rushes to IMCA Late Model win at Davenport 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 21) – With the racing season winding down, the Davenport Speedway saw a pair of first-time local IMCA winners for 2015 Friday night. Ray Guss Jr. wasted no time in taking the win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Guss started seventh and took the lead on lap four. Guss led the remainder of a 25-lap main that went green to checkered. The victory was his first at Davenport in more than two years. Andy Nezworski started ninth and finished second. Justin Kay came from 15th to third. Brunson Behning and Travis Denning rounded out the top five. Mitch Morris finally collected his first local feature win of the season in the Milan Heating &Air IMCA Modifieds. Morris used a lap four restart to take the lead and never looked back. 2015 IMCA point season ends on Sept. 27

VINTON, Iowa – The 2015 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season for seven sanctioned divisions ends on Sunday, Sept. 27. Final races are scheduled that day for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Bonus points for applicable track and/or special series champi­onships will be figured and national champions and rook­ies of the year announced as soon as possible. Local track officials will have until noon Central Standard Time on Monday, Oct. 26 to notify IMCA of corrections that affect their top 15 point standings before all standings for those divisions become official. Drivers from more than 20 states and Canada are already registered for IMCA’s centennial season Super Nationals. $250 Added to IMCA Stock Car purse at 141 

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – Eric Mahlik and Advocare have chipped in $250 for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars this Saturday, Aug. 22. Racing gets underway with the six divisions in action beginning at 6 p.m. The Stock Car feature winner will pull five pills. Each pill is worth $50 to that finishing position. One pill will be drawn from the 1-4 finishing positions. The other four pills will be drawn from the 5-20 finishing positions. “Advocare is a proud sponsor of the IMCA Stock Car Chase division. We see they are an exciting division just like we offer exciting products like Spark. We will be on hand offering free Spark to anyone who would like to try it. Early entries for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals soar past 100 

EAGLE, Neb. – Early entries for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals have already soared past 100. Drivers from 13 states and Canada will converge on Eagle Raceway Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 3-6 for the third annual event. The Sunday finale sees the winner take home $2,000 and all other main event qualifiers earn a minimum of $1,000. The field of 27 will start three wide. Pre-tech runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and will be followed by an open practice on Thursday, The front three rows qualify and Jake Ita Memorial heats are on Friday.
