Northern SportMods make splash at Central AZ, division’s Arizona Speedway debut set for March

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – After a successful weekend debut for the division at Central Arizona Speedway, promoter Jonah Trussel is looking for more of the same when Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for the first time at Arizona Speedway next month. A high of 20 and an average of 18 IMCA-sanctioned Northern SportMods ran during the Feb. 19-21 Snowbird Classic at Casa Grande. Opening night at Apache Junction will be March 19. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds also run at both venues. “We have had an X-mod division for a long time and told drivers in that class two years ago that we’d be switching to Northern SportMods this season. Heartland Park Topeka releases 2016 schedule

TOPEKA, Kan. – It was just a few weeks ago that Heartland Park Topeka officials named John and Larry Lowrey as co-promoters of the dirt track. This week the announcements keep coming for 2016. “We are very excited about getting back to racing at Heartland Park Topeka on the dirt track,” said Larry Lowrey, “Bringing IMCA into the mix is really going to jazz things up another notch.” The core of the 2016 season will revolve around the weekly race program. WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Mitchell Machine marks a sponsorship milestone with awards for drivers in three divisions. The Webster City, Iowa, transmission manufacturer and machine shop gives product certificates based on regional standings for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and on national standings for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods. The 2016 season is Mitchell Machine’s 10th as an IMCA marketing partner. Thornton sweeps Snowbird IMCA Modified features

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (Feb. 19-21) – Three Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature wins in as many nights resulted in another first for Ricky Thornton Jr. Thornton swept Snowbird Classic features at Central Arizona Speedway, topping $1,000 to win events Friday and Saturday and then taking the $2,000 checkers on Sunday. “We’ve had a couple weekends where we’ve won the first two nights but not the third,” said Thornton, already an eight-time winner this season and a qualifier 11 times over for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “This was definitely the best weekend we’ve ever had.” Thornton earned the pole start for Sunday’s main event by topping the heat winners’ dash. He led the feature from green to checkered despite the best efforts of R.C. Whitwell, who pulled alongside on several occasions but was unable to complete the pass. Dubuque fair date added to IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour schedule

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A 10th date has been added to the Hawkeye Dirt Tour, on Tuesday, July 26, opening night of the Dubuque County Fair. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds will race for a minimum of $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start when they make their first tour visit to Dubuque Speedway for the midweek show. In addition to special series points, IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. The feature is a qualifying race for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Modifieds race March 3, 4 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The half-mile Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts a pair of $750 to win events for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds on Thursday and Friday, March 3-4. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded both nights. Features pay a minimum of $75 to start with $50 paid to non-qualifiers. There is a $20 entry fee each night. RACEceivers and transponders are required. World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are on both programs. West Coast Late Models run on Thursday and 360 Sprint Cars on Friday. BMS Mods by Xtreme begins fifth season as IMCA Modified North Central Region sponsor

GREAT BEND, Kan. – BMS Mods by Xtreme Motor Sports is back for a fifth consecutive season as title sponsor of the North Central Region for Modifieds, and for the 15th season as an IMCA marketing partner. Xtreme Motor Sports purchased the Belleville, Kan., chassis builder earlier this year. BMS by Xtreme will furnish a portion of a $6,000 point fund to be paid out to top 10 drivers in the region comprised by tracks in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Saskatchewan, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The champion earns $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth, $300 for fifth and $200 for sixth through 10th.
