Taylor has IMCA Modified field covered at Legit

WEST PLAINS, Mo. (April 16) – After restarting last in Saturday’s main event at Legit Speedway, then racing back through the field to take the $1,500 checkers, Jeff Taylor got to go home and get some shuteye. Taylor got the best of the Xtreme Motor Sports Modified field after exiting to the pits with a cut left rear tire five circuits into the 30-lapper. “It was just a racing deal. I got into them and they got into me,” said Taylor, seventh on the original starting grid. “After the restart I was able to run high, low, middle, just wherever. I was happy we were able to so good. Brown Tops IMCA Modified Extravaganza At West Liberty

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (April 16) – An outstanding field of 80 race teams entered the West Liberty Raceway Modified Extravaganza on Saturday night. When the final checkered flag of the night waved it was Kyle Brown collecting the $1,000 top prize after thrilling the fans with a charge to the checkers overtaking race leader Kurt Kile for ahalf a car length Performance Concepts IMCA Modified victory. Kile led for 24 and ¾-laps before Brown executed the winning move in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Ray Guss Jr. crossed under the checkers third ahead of Chris Zogg and Zach VanderBeek. The Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Northern SportMods main event saw Curtis Van Der Wal score a hard fought win over Tim Plummer. Great Scott! Deery Series win at Hamilton County is first for Fitzpatrick

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (April 16) – Losing position helped make Scott Fitzpatrick a first-time Deery Brothers Summer Series feature winner. Fitzpatrick checked out on the rest of the IMCA Late Model field Saturday at Hamilton County Speedway. He’d started outside Chad Holladay on the front row, fell behind Darrel DeFrance and Todd Cooney, then put himself in position to take charge after Holladay suffered mechanical issues. “This was awesome,” Fitzpatrick said. “(Getting) This win was haunting me and I finally got it done in true fashion. There were some of the best IMCA drivers here. This win is very humbling.” The $2,000 victory came in Fitzpatrick’s 34th career Deery start and just his second at Webster City. Irvine wins big at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 15) – No stranger to winning big, Brian Irvine took the $1,000 top prize in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature on opening night Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Thirty-one Modifieds were on hand for the 25-lap, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying contest and Joel Rust started on the pole. Rust hung on tight to that top spot through the first 14 laps before the caution came out and his lead disappeared. By this time, Irvine had made it into second place and applied pressure when the race restarted. Rust and Irvine raced closely the remaining laps, swapping the lead numerous times, but it was Irvine taking final command and sweeping home to a victory. Third place went to Tim Ward, 11th starting Kyle Brown was fourth and Tom Berry finished in fifth. In the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main, it was a shootout to the finish. Farley Deery checkers are first in a decade for Martin

FARLEY, Iowa (April 15) – A hero from the early days of the Deery Brothers Summer Series turned backed the clock Friday at Farley Speedway. Curt Martin led the last 35 of 50 laps in winning the IMCA Late Model tour feature and $2,000. Forty-two Late Models were entered. The 1990 and 1991 Deery champion had last won a series event in May of 2006 at the old Highway 3 Raceway in Allison. The Farley checkers, Martin’s tour career 26th, came in a car Doug Cue and Gene Budzine bought as a backup for Tyler Droste to run weekly at Independence Motor Speedway. Positive response nets 2016 start for IMCA Northwest SportMod Challenge

PORTLAND, Ore. – Shares of a point fund that already totals $1,200 will be paid to Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers competing at three tracks in Oregon and another in northern California. Northwest SportMod Challenge standings will be determined using a system awarding 10 points for first place down to one point for 10th place on back. Drivers’ 12 best feature finishes during the IMCA regular point season at Cottage Grove Speedway, Southern Oregon Speedway and Sunset Speedway in Oregon and at California’s Siskiyou Motor Speedway will apply. “The IMCA Northern SportMod division is getting bigger and bigger here in the Pacific Northwest,” explained Challenge organizer Steve Kerstulovich. “I was going to spend this year talking to potential sponsors. Southern Iowa Speedway holds regular season opener

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 13) – Five drivers tamed the half-mile monster in the regular season opener Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. Cayden Carter and Josh Foster started the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature event on the front row and it was Foster quickly grabbing the top spot and getting out to a commanding lead. A lap 12 caution came out and Foster saw Kelly Shryock and Ricky Thornton Jr. right behind him for the ensuing restart. Foster held them off until the yellow came out again on lap 17, this time for Shyrock in turn four. Thornton got a great restart and took the lead away from Foster. Thornton went on to take the win. Colt Mather finished second, Zack Vander Beek was third, Foster was fourth and Tyler Groenendyk was fifth. Other feature winners were Cayden Carter in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Curtis VanDerWal in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Nick Ulin in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Shane Evans in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
