BOONE, Iowa (May 28) – Saturday night’s racing program at the Boone Speedway beat Mother Nature, its program finishing just before the rain.
John Logue, who has seen many victories over the years, took the checkers in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. Wayne Gifford got his second win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car class, as did Randy Roberts in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. John Watson got the win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.
Logue jumped immediately to the lead from his outside front row starting spot in the Modified 20-lapper. He took his ride to the topside and kept his momentum there, leading all laps to the finish and the win.
Twelfth starting Mike Van Genderen finished a close second. Right behind was Jimmy Gustin, who came from eleventh. Fourth went to 20th place starter Ricky Thornton and Joel Bushore finished fifth.
Gifford took the Stock Car lead at lap four and was pulling away until pesky yellows reared their ugly heads. This bunched the field for the restarts and soon gave Gifford some hot competition.
Tyler Pickett was right behind when the final caution came out with just two laps remaining. Lurking in third was Jay Schimidt, who had a bumper cover flying in the wind, and also close at hand was last week’s winner Donavon Smith.
Gifford managed to hang on the final two laps for the win, just beating out Schmidt. Pickett took third over Matthew West and 14th place starter Trent Murphy finished in fifth.
Watson came away with his first local feature of the season in the Hobby Stock main after starting ninth. Second went to Tyson Overton and third was Brandon Pitts, who had led the entire race until the final corner but was sent backwards due to contact with another car.
Fourth was Seth Janssen and 13th place starter Dustin Graham rounded out the top five.
Roberts wasted no time in getting to the front of the Northern SportMod field from his 11th starting position. He took command of the ship on lap three and never looked back on his way to the win.
Johnathon Logue made it all the way to second after starting 23rd. Last week’s winner Brandon Williams, took third after starting 13th. Fourth went to 11th place starter Jake McBirnie, and Adam Shelman completed the top five.
