Late-race pass helps Chadwick go back-to-back in Wild West Modified Shoot Out

(June 13) – Kellen Chadwick stayed persistent and was rewarded with his second straight Wild West Modified Shoot Out feature win Monday at Cottage Grove Speedway. The $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers were the second in as many nights for Chadwick, who’d also won Sunday at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Tripp Gaylord took full advantage of his pole starting position to get to the front early. The first-time visitor to Cottage Grove mastered the middle of the track and kept all challengers at bay for much of the race. Unfortunately for Gaylord, he wouldn’t be able to build on his lead due to several cautions occurring in the first half of the race. Frye, Gottschalk repeat at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (June 11) – Tyler Frye and Daniel Gottschalk made repeat appearances in the winner’s circle at RPM Speedway Saturday evening. Marty Clark took the lead at the drop of the green in the Gib’s Auto Supply IMCA Modified feature until Frye took over the lead on lap seven. After a three-car tangle on lap nine to bring out a caution, Frye led the field back to green. Mike Petersilie chased Frye down and took control on lap 13, only to have Frye regain the lead on the following lap and hold on for his second win at Hays this year. Clay Money got by Petersilie late for the runner-up spot with Dylan Sherfick and Jeremy Frenier rounding out the top five. Adam Weber took the lead in the 20-lap Karl Chevrolet SportMod feature but spun on lap four, giving the lead to Tyler Watts for the restart. Wild West Shoot Out ventures to California, Chadwick impresses in home state feature

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. (June 12) – A home state driver was the Sunday winner, when the 2016 Wild West Shoot Out made its only stop in the Golden State. Kellen Chadwick earned $1,000 and a spot on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational along with the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. As was the case on opening night at Southern Oregon Speedway, Collen Winebarger set a rapid pace for a good portion of the race. His sizable lead was cut down when a lap 11 caution bunch up the field again. On the restart, Lance Mari went back to work on Winebarger for the top spot. Mari successfully made his move on the bottom and took the lead on lap 14. Mari then attempted to set sail but a lap 18 yellow lined the field up together one last time. Snyder paces Modifieds, Olson tops SportMods at Iowa Donor Network/Urbana 5 Night special

VINTON, Iowa (June 12) – Tony Snyder raced his way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while Tony Olson took home the biggest check from Sunday’s Iowa Donor Network/Urbana 5 Memorial Night at Benton County Speedway. Snyder held off hard chargers Racer Hulin and Kyle Brown for the $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory. Olson collected his second big payday of the weekend, pocketing $1,400 for his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win. One hundred and fifteen cars were counted in the pit area. Other winners on the evening included Damon Murty in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and August Bach in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Scott Hogan led the first two times around the track in the Modified main before fellow front row starter Snyder used the lower line to pass for the lead. Osborn keeps Lincoln County streak alive

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 11) – The oval had many racing grooves for the competitors to challenge for supremacy at Lincoln County Raceway Saturday evening. Finding the fastest grooves to were Colton Osborn, Zach Schultz, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner as all found themselves in the winner’s circle at the end of the evening. Continuing his streak was Osborn, as he captured yet another Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory. Osborn started in the third row and took little time to become in the lead group. He passed Dave Pedersen on the 10th lap and never looked back. Pedersen ended as the runner-up and Jay Steffens was third. It was a family battle at the front of the field during the final laps of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature with Zach and Dillon Schultz going head-to-head. Withhuhn is latest first-time winner at Dodge City

Witthuhn gunned into the lead on the opening round and leading all 15 laps to become the sixth different winner of the year and 15th different winner in the last 17 events. Witthuhn went from third to first on the opening lap and then kept Brian May and Jeff Kaup behind him the rest of the way with Kevin Tabor and Bart Baker rounding out the top five. Clay Sellard rebounded from a mid-race, one position penalty to take his first 20-lap win of the season in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Kilgore takes $1,000 win at 141

Van Pay to slide job city in the $1,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature, the second installment of 141 Speedway’s Red, White and Blue series. Jay Matthias led the opening lap from the pole. Mike Mashl charged to the outside and grabbed the lead on the second circuit, then moved down on the track, which allowed Van Pay and Kilgore to make it to the leader’s back bumper. Van Pay stayed high on the track with Kilgore and they garnered the top two spots on lap 13. Van Pay stayed in command until the sole caution flew with five laps remaining. Thrills and spills Saturday at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (June 11) – Thrills and spills may be a racing sports cliche, but the terminology describes the racing at the Off Road Speedway last Saturday night. Side-by-side racing is commonplace, and three-wide is frequent, but on several occasions during Saturday’s feature races on the ‘dry slick’ Norfolk track spectators were treated to cars aligned four-wide across the track. The result was multi-car spin-outs and, in the case of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, a rollover. Tracy Buck earned his first Off Road Speedway win in that division by taking the lead with six laps remaining and surviving two cautions, including the rollover, and then holding off Austin Brauner. Nate DeSive finished third. Chad Bruns will remain at the top of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car standings after his second feature win in the division. Cottage Grove hosts Shoot Out rounds three and four

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Cottage Grove Speedway hosts the third and fourth races of the 2016 Wild West IMCA Modified Shoot Out Monday and Tuesday, June 13 and 14. More than 40 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers are expected to make the trip and will be coming from all over North America, including Colorado, North Dakota, British Columbia and even North Carolina. Prices each night are $8 for adult general admission, youths ages 6-12 are $5 and kids five and under are free. Two-day passes are available for $10. The front gate opens at 4 p.m. with racing scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. both days. Mark Wauge is the only multi-feature winner of the class in local competition at CGS. Kinzer Cox, Collen Winebarger, Curtis Towns and Jesse Williamson have also visited victory lane in 2016 at the famed ¼-mile clay oval. SPI announces double IMCA Late Model features

FARLEY, Iowa – Last Friday night’s racing program came to an abrupt halt when Mother Nature unloaded on Farley Speedway. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modified feature had just taken the checkered flag when the rains moved, in forcing SPI officials to postpone the Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature. This Friday night, June 17, Farley Speedway will run two 25-lap IMCA Late Model features. The makeup feature event has 15 positions open and drivers who were not in attendance last Friday night will be able to qualify for the makeup as well as the regularly scheduled race simply by paying an additional pit pass. It will be Legends Night on Friday, an annual event honors retired dirt track divers who are a rich part of the history of racing in Eastern Iowa. In addition all weekly classes will be racing along with special guests the Vintage Coupe drivers. Hot laps get underway at 7 p.m. with racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.
