Nelson battles Braaten for Southern Oregon checkers

(June 25) – Bob Nelson won a late-race duel with Jorddon Braaten to score the victory in the 20 lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. Nelson grabbed the lead early on while Braaten battled his way from the last row to provide the pressure. Braaten made a late pass on Nelson but the determined Nelson moved back by for the lead and victory. Braaten settled for second as Nelson became the fourth different winner in the competitive division. Glen Severson and Tony Bartell shared the front row with Nelson starting seventh and Braaten 10th in the main event. Bartell led one lap before Severson used an inside pass on the front stretch to grab the lead. $1,000 top prize for IMCA Stock Cars Friday at Denison

DENISON, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race for $1,000 to win on Adams Motors Night this Friday, July 1 at Crawford County Speedway in Denison. There is no entry fee or number fee for first time drivers at Denison. The Stock Car portion of the program is draw/redraw. Completing the card are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. All applicable points, including local track, will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Hancock County salutes IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour winner Dripps

BRITT, Iowa (June 28) – After they saluted the men and women who served our country, fans at Hancock County Speedway saluted Corey Dripps. Dripps won the Tuesday night Salute to Veterans Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event, earning $3,500 for his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory. The pits were packed with 140 entries in five sanctioned divisions, including 44 Modifieds for the fifth of a dozen HDT events on the 2016 schedule. Dripps’ victory was his tour career first and put him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “It was a very gratifying win for us tonight,” he said. Dubuque Speedway to host Tri-Track IMCA Late Model Special

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa – This Sunday, July 3, Dubuque Speedway will host a special racing event featuring the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge will be held with the Late Models battling for 50 laps on the high banks of Dubuque Speedway with a first place $2,000 prize awaiting the winner. In addition to the Late Models, IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds, Northern SportMods and Stock Cars will all be in action. Sunday night’s special event will get underway with hot laps at 6 p.m. and the first race of the night at 6:30 p.m.

Rookie of the year applications due by Friday

VINTON, Iowa – Friday, July 1 is the deadline for submitting rookie of the year applications to IMCA. That form has been published in the point section of the Inside IMCA newsletter and can be faxed (319 472-2218) to the home office or emailed to Director of Membership and Points Virginia Lindsey (vlindsey@imca.com). Rookie applicants can also call Lindsey (319 472-2201) to sign up. Applications sent through the mail must be postmarked by July 1.

Josh Pruitt repeats Stock Car Shootout checkers at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 26) – If the script from Sunday’s Stew Hansen Dodge Stock Car Shootout at Stuart Speedway sounded familiar, it’s because you saw it played out last season, too. Josh Pruitt borrowed his father Terry’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, won the main event and took home $1,000 for the second straight year. Mike Harris and Pruitt pulled the first two chips out of the bucket and led the field to green. Pruitt held the top spot early over Harris and Damon Murty. Murty moved to second on lap five and set his sights on the lead, but a flat tire on lap 10 ended his night and turned over second to Marcus Fagan. Fagan stayed zeroed in on Pruitt until the yellow flew on lap 19. Northern SportMod checkers fly for Albrecht at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 25) – John Albrecht led the entire Unhinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod feature Saturday at Arlington Raceway. A first lap caution was thrown but that was the only thing to slow Albrecht in the drive to his first checkers of the season. Tim Bergerson passed Jeremy Brown to take second and Tony Rialson was fourth. Ryan Bryant won his first feature of the year in the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compacts. He led from start to finish in the caution-free race with Jed Trebelhorn following and Alan Lahr a close third. Mike Vogt was the early leader in the Premier Logistics IMCA Hobby feature but two caution flags in the first two laps gave Cory Probst extra leverage to get to the front of the pack. By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 26) – Raceway Park hit the halfway point of its 2016 IMCA racing season with the KPTH Fox 44 mid-season championships Sunday night. The KISS 107 FM IMCA Sport Compact division saw a tangle at the initial start that took point leader Ramsey Meyer out of contention for the remainder of the evening. On the restart, Lewis Maine took control of the lead from his front row starting spot and held off a challenge from Luke Jackson with two laps remaining to take his first feature win. Behind Maine and Jackson, Andrew Harris and Tracy Raml rounded out the top four. The CarQuest IMCA Hobby Stock division also saw a first-time winner when Steven Pierce made perseverance pay by holding off most of the field from his front row starting position. Medlock, Blurton sprint to URSS wins at Byers

BYERS, Colo. (June 25) – Justin Medlock and Zach Blurton were feature winners when the United Rebel Sprint Series rolled back through the pit gates at Colorado Motor Sports Park Saturday night. Medlock scored the first victory of his career in the feature rained out and made up from May 28 at Byers. Blurton then paced the scheduled event. Medlock led every lap of the rescheduled contest after starting outside the front row. Austin Mclean took the runner-up position back from Bob Schaeffer on lap 15; Scott Cochran and Tod Plemons completed the top five. Blurton wired the field in the scheduled 20-lapper that followed, becoming the fourth different winner in as many URSS events at Byers this season. Mayden returns to Cottage Grove winner’s circle

(June 25) – Jake Mayden returned to the winner’s circle at Cottage Grove Speedway, following the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds’ turn on the track during Loggers’ Cup Night. Justin Austin, Ryan Baker and then Tyler Smith were early leaders. Smith remained in the top spot before slipping back to second on the eighth lap. The driver to take the reigns over the rest of the field was Mayden. He battled for several laps with Smith but in the end Mayden would keep everyone behind him to finish first. It was his second local win of the season. Smith finished in second while Steven Sturdevant, Braedon Hand and B.J. Wild completed the top five. Collen Winebarger was fast time of the night as well as the victor in the trophy dash.
