By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (April 18) – 141 Speedway kicked off the much anticipated season with a bang on Saturday night as 147 drivers signed in to do battle and be one of the first cars to lock up their spot in the chase. Brad Lautenbach picked up his first IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win of the season and a $1,000 pay day courtesy of Prestige Custom Cabinetry. Lautenbach, the defending Allstar Performance State champion and already on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, picked the one pill and then had to wait to officially lead any laps as the race saw four cautions before the first circuit was scored. Lautenbach stayed in charge in a contest that went caution-free from that point. Brian Mullen got close a couple times but could never challenge. Mike Montie passed Matt Brehmer early in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event. Montie led every lap en route to the win over Brehmer. Olson, Ciesielski, Irvine beat the rain at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Apr. 18) – Three of four features were run to completion before rain halted action Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway. The program, which was the final of two draw/redraw specials for IMCA state, regional and national points before weekly points racing starts at the speedway April 25, welcomed 90 race teams to the pit area. Tony Olson took advantage of his pole position start by racing into the lead at the drop of the green in the 15-lap Tenacity Graphics IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Olson paced the field while Jenae Gustin made her way into second from a third row start on the second circuit. Olson, who built a quick half-straightaway lead, extended his advantage in lapped traffic before a trio of cautions slowed action with two laps to go. He pulled away on the final restart to take the win ahead of a hard-charging Alex Zwanziger and Gustin. Roger Ciesielski drove the high side into the lead in the 15-lap Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car main. From an outside third row [Read More]

Callahan collects top Deery cash at Farley again

FARLEY, Iowa (April 17) – Something about Farley Speedway brings out the best in Joel Callahan. Callahan won his third straight Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Farley Friday night, earning $3,000. He’d also topped IMCA Late Model tour events there each of the last two Septembers. Jeff Aikey started outside Callahan on the front row and led the first 22 of 50 laps. The field was under yellow and ready to resume racing when Aikey pulled into infield with a flat tire. That put Callahan on point and he stayed in front as the last 28 laps ran caution-free. Tyler Droste and defending series champion Justin Kay both avoided becoming part of the attrition and advanced 15 positions to second and third, respectively. Point leader Andy Nezworski was a plus eight positions to fourth and hard charger Tyler Bruening advanced 17 spots to fifth. Matt Ryan started 17th and ended in sixth. Colby Springsteen was running in the top five when he brought out the first yellow of the night with a lap 17 flat. [Read More]

Sites starts promising season with Empire State Series win at Five Mile

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (April 12) – Eddie Sites likes the start of his 2015 a lot more than he does his 2013 or 2014 campaigns. Sites won Sunday’s opening event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds following the Empire State Series at Five Mile Point Speedway. The victory paid $400 and came ahead of Jared Spalding and Jason Benjamin. Gary Smith and K.C. Cole completed the top five. Sites had started third, passed Mike Stoddard and Matt Cole on the second circuit, then led to the end of the 25-lapper. After seeing a comfortable lead erased by a lap 23 caution, he took the checkers two car lengths ahead of Spalding. “It rubbered up but I didn’t have any trouble getting around the track,” Sites said. “I had a pretty good car. This was the best race I’ve had in a long time.” “I won this series two years in a row (in 2011 and 2012) but haven’t raced much the last two seasons,” he continued. “In 2013 we had a lot of parts failures, some [Read More]

Seymour becomes site of 1st, 200th wins for Snellenberger

PULASKI, Wis. (April 11) – That big sigh of relief you heard from victory lane at Seymour Speedway came from Rod Snellenberger. Snellenberger won for the 200th time in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career Saturday evening, holding off Brandon Czarapata by the narrowest of margins. “It was a relief to get it this early in the season. Czarapata, twice a national champion with 100-plus wins of his own, made him work to complete the latest accomplishment. After starting from the pole, Snellenberger caught Kyle Frederick for the lead six laps in. Czarapata, meanwhile, made his way up from mid-pack to challenge for the front and [Read More]
