Benton County Speedway holds open practice Sunday, May 31

By Jerry Mackey   VINTON, Iowa – Sunday, May 31 will be an open practice session for all racers from 4-7 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. at The Bullring located on the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton.   The point racing season will open on June 7 with fans being allowed to attend the races. The racing action will get underway on June 7 with warmups slated to take to the track at 4:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 5 p.m.

No races at Independence this Saturday

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The officials of the Independence Motor Speedway have announced that races will not be held this Saturday, May 30 due to the Covid-19 restrictions still in place which does not allow fans to attend.   Racing will return to the Independence Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 6 with fans being allowed in the grandstand. More information regarding the June 6 races will be announced in the very near future.

Track title quests continue at U.S. 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. – With Modified Madness in the rear view mirror, the IMCA divisions racing for track championships continue the battle this Friday, May 29 at U.S. 36 Raceway.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern­SportMods are all set to hit the high banks. The pit gates open at 4 p.m. The grandstands open at 6 p.m., with hot laps at 7:30 and the first heat race at 8 p.m.  Tickets for the event are $15. Seniors and military are $12 and children 12 and younger are free. A pit pass is $35. CJ Speedway hosts racing action this Friday

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – CJ Speedway hosts a full program of racing this Friday night, with IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on the May 29 card  All cars entering the pit area will be allowed to be accompanied by 10 patrons. Warm-ups are scheduled to take to the track at 7 p.m. CJ will comply with Covid-19 guidelines set forth by the Iowa governor. This means the grandstand will not be open. On Friday, June 5, CJ Speedway will host a full night of racing with the grandstand being open for the dedicated CJ Speedway fans. IMCA championship chase starts Friday at Lee County Speedway

DONNELLSON, Iowa – The race for track championships in five IMCA divisions starts Friday night at Lee County Speedway.  The May 29 program sees IMCA Sunoco Late Models running for $700 to win, IMCA Modifieds for $600 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for a top check of $250.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and state, as well as track points are at stake. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. with racing to follow 7 p.m. hot laps. Pit passes are $30. The grandstand will be closed and social distancing guidelines will be in effect in the pit area.  Friday’s race program will be broadcast by Done Right TV. New sanction sees five IMCA divisions running weekly at Concordia High Banks

CONCORDIA, Kan. – Five IMCA divisions will be new to weekly race programs this season at “a fun little track” in Kansas.  Concordia High Banks has 13 point nights, all but two of them on Sundays, scheduled this season. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts will look to tame the quick quarter-mile clay oval. “This is a fun little track,” said Terry Eidet, who got into the promotional business to help the sport survive and thrive in the Jayhawk State. “Last year we had 133 different drivers from seven states race here. Independence Motor Speedway set to open Saturday

By Jerry Mackey  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa  – The 2020 racing season will see its first green flag of the season this Saturday, May 23. The sweet sounds of race cars flying around the 3/8-mile dirt track located on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds will be heard as five IMCA divisions will be in competition.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will all be in action with hot laps scheduled to take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.   The season opener for 2020 will be very different as the track will open under the Iowa Governor’s restriction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which means the grandstand will be closed. Each race car entering the pit area will be allowed to be accompanied by 10 persons, the social distancing guidelines will be in effect and cars will be pitted a minimum of six feet apart.   Fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to Done Right TV. New promoter will keep building on solid IMCA foundation at Buena Vista Raceway

ALTA, Iowa – With a firm midweek foundation in place, new promoter Trent Chinn plans to keep building on to the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program at Buena Vista Raceway. Chinn takes over the Wednesday night speedplant at Alta, sanctioned by IMCA for 30-plus seasons. “This track really started to come back to its glory days under (previous promoter) Joey Ciechanowski,” said Chinn, who saw much of the country while crewing for Tim Ward and Ricky Thornton Jr. “This is already a very nice facility. Peterson Family Promotions takes charge at Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – A family that’s cheered, raced and worked at the Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds will promote the quarter-mile clay speedplant beginning this season.  Korey Peterson, along with uncles Jeff and Todd, take charge at the East Moline track. Sunday shows under the Peterson Family Promotions banner will feature IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and, for the first time, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. “We love this track. First weekly sanction in state sees 10 dates for IMCA Stock Cars at Idaho Falls Raceway

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The class that turned heads during the 2019 finale returns full-time to Idaho Falls Raceway in 2020.  The first-ever Gem State sanction sees IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in action on 10 nights at Idaho Falls, where the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season runs from May 30 to Sept. 26. Dillion Lawrence had raced from 10th starting to win the 1st Class Chassis Wild West Tour Stock Car feature at Idaho Falls last September. “Our fans really enjoyed the Stock Cars. They liked the door-to-door racing,” said B.J. Haslam, president of the Snake River Stock Car Association, which promotes the 3/8-mile dirt oval. “We already have several drivers in the area who race Stock Cars and are looking to get new drivers in the class.”  A long-time Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod competitor and former E3 Spark Plugs state champion, Haslam compared the competitiveness of the Stock Cars to that division.
