No races at Independence this Saturday

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Cold and wind get the blame for cancellation of Thursday’s Frostbuster at Independence Motor Speedway.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods now see their next Frostbuster action Friday, April 2 at Marshalltown Speedway.  Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. The draw closes at 6:15 p.m. with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing to follow.  Frostbusters follow Saturday at Boone Speedway and Sunday at Benton County Speedway. 

By Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 22) – Sean Johnson scored the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature win and $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway.  Johnson took the race lead after two early restarts and pulled away from Curt Martin, Logan Duffy and Travis Smock before the caution came out on lap 17 for debris. Johnson held on leading the last eight laps to take the feature win and the Sunoco Race Fuels bonus. Martin, Duffy, Smock and Austin Russell rounded out the top five.  Johnson’s victory was worth $850 in all. Jordan Hicks flexed his IMCA Modified muscles because not even the cautions on lap two or on lap 12 him from adding his name to the history books of feature winners in Indee. Hicks took the win despite tenth place starter Troy Cordes trying to chase him down late. Ryan Maitland, Jason Briese and Kip Siems rounded out the top five. VINTON, Iowa (March 26, 2024) – It’s the spring version of Iowa Speedweek as four IMCA divisions travel to five different tracks for Wednesday-Sunday, April 3-7 Frostbuster specials. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $750 and both Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win each night beginning at Independence Motor Speedway, with dates at Stuart Speedway, Marshalltown Speedway and Boone Speedway leading up to the finale at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. Frostbuster champions earn the biggest share of $1,000 point funds and will be eligible for race of champions events at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Modified and Stock Car feature winners become eligible to qualify for their respective All-Star Invitationals.
