INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A Deery Brothers Summer Series doubleheader is on the docket this weekend, as the 33rd annual tour for IMCA Late Models travels to Independence Mo­tor Speedway and Dubuque Speedway. 

A top prize of $2,000 is on the line Saturday, April 27 at Independence while the winner of the Sunday, April 28 Hershel Roberts/Ray Guss Sr. Memorial at Dubuque goes home with $2,500. 

Both features pay a minimum of $300 to start. The Sunday show was rescheduled after a mid-April twinbill at Maquoketa and Dubuque was lost to unseasonable weather.

The 492nd event in series history takes Deery drivers and fans to Independence for the 30th time. 

Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator ad­mission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $15 for students and free for kids 12 and under when ac­companying a paid adult. Pit passes are $35.

Also running are IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national, regional, state and track points.

Independence Motor Speedway set to open Saturday

By Jerry Mackey  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa  – The 2020 racing season will see its first green flag of the season this Saturday, May 23. The sweet sounds of race cars flying around the 3/8-mile dirt track located on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds will be heard as five IMCA divisions will be in competition.  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will all be in action with hot laps scheduled to take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.   The season opener for 2020 will be very different as the track will open under the Iowa Governor’s restriction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which means the grandstand will be closed. Each race car entering the pit area will be allowed to be accompanied by 10 persons, the social distancing guidelines will be in effect and cars will be pitted a minimum of six feet apart.   Fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to Done Right TV. Nezworski nabs Deery finale, Kay tops tour, Hurst takes national IMCA Late Model prize

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Sept. 21) – Andy Nezworski won the main event, Justin Kay won the tour title and Jeremiah Hurst won the IMCA Late Model championship when the Deery Brothers Summer Series concluded Friday at Davenport Speedway. Nezworski led every lap of the 40-lap, $2,000 to win caution-free Governor’s Cup feature. Chuck Hanna got close in lapped traffic but couldn’t find a way around the leader. Kay, who’d won the IMCA Modified feature earlier in the program, and Ryan Dolan both passed Hanna on the final lap; ‘B’ feature winner and hard charger Tyler Bruening rounded out the top five. INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – A $1,000 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event for IMCA Modifieds is on the Saturday card at Independence Motor Speedway. Auto Source LLC has added to the June 26 Modified purse. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cards will run for $500 to win, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $400 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300, with each of those divisions draw/redraw.  Pits open at 3:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m.
