Shrader clinches track title with Antioch checkers

By Candice Martin ANTIOCH, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2023) – Kenny Shrader won the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was his fourth win of the season and he earned the track championship over Jason Ryan Jr. by just two points. Shrader bolted into the immediate lead ahead of Ryan and Mark Garner. The race ran 13 laps before a yellow flag slowed the action. Shrader continued to lead the restart ahead of Ryan and Tommy Fraser. After another yellow flag a lap later, Shrader resumed command. Ryan gave it everything he had but Shrader prevailed for the championship-clinching victory. Fraser settled for third ahead of Garner and Dylan Connelly. During intermission, past promoter Brynda Bockover, past sportsman racer Gene Dothage, Mike Conley Sr. and Wingless Spec Sprint founder Don O’Keefe Jr were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Champions crowned at RPM Speedway

By Sheldon Wickwar HAYS, Kan. (Sept. 16, 2023) – Track champions were crowned in five IMCA divisions Saturday evening at RPM Speedway. Tim Watts was scooting away with the lead while a four-wide battle broke out early for second in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main. Brett Smith took charge after a restart but Clay Sellard quickly found his way to the front. Point leader Dylan Sherfick was part of a three-car tangle and went to the pits for the rest of the night before Sellard brought the field to a restart with 12 laps to go. Dakota Sproul found some speed on the top side off the restart and started to close the gap behind the leader. The field would single file out in the closing laps, as Sellard was able to pull away from runner-up Sproul to grab the win. Daniel Gottschalk, Jake Nightingale and Brett Smith rounded out the top five. Despite getting caught up in an early wreck, Sherfick held good points lead to pick up the track championship. Harris hauls at Hampton

(Sept. 16) – Jerald Harris in the Harris Movers IMCA RaceSaver Sprinter sure had a handle on the Langley Speedway Saturday evening as he led every lap for a convincing win, his Virginia Sprint Series-leading third of the year. Harris and Matt Mullins lead the field to green with a bad outcome leaving Chris Humblet and Aaron Leach being towed to the infield and finished for the night. The second start was a good one as Harris jumped out and had Mullins right behind with Caleb Harris in third and Matthew Leach fourth. Harris was on a rail lap after lap with Mullins holding on the second as Leach made his way to third. Leach was all over Mullins when they got to traffic but Mullins stayed smooth and limited chances for Leach to pass. Heffner bags PASS ‘Hunting Season’ checkers

The Watsontown racer drew the outside front-row starting position Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway, raced out ahead of fellow front-row starter Nick Sweigart, fought off an early challenge (and another one later on) from Ken Duke, and led all 20 laps to win one of the biggest River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series races of the season, the Race to Hunting Season sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission as part of the 25th FANiversary Tour, marking a quarter century of PASS/IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car competition in Central Pennsylvania. A six-year veteran of RaceSaver competition, Heffner collected his fifth career victory, his second of 2023 and his career second at Selinsgrove. Services held for Ohio Sprint Series race director Chad Hyatt

ASHVILLE, Ohio (Aug. 30, 2023) – Chad A. Hyatt, 54, of Ashville passed away Aug. 21, 2023, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Private funeral services have been held for the Ohio Thunder Sprint Series race director and IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car driver. “He was more than a race director. Chad was a key player for the division and was instrumental in getting RaceSaver in the State of Ohio,” said Series Director Andy Hill. “I can’t say enough about him.” Hyatt was born September 17, 1968, to James Hyatt and Willie (McCormick) Fisher. He is survived by his wife Octavia (Sias) Hyatt, his mother Willie Fisher, daughters Brittany Hyatt, Amanda Reeves, Emily Hyatt, Sarah Sias, Tiffany (Christopher) Gale and Alexandrie (Charles) Gillespie; son Chad Hyatt, grandchildren Ezra Hercules, Evelyn Hercules, Amelia Stewart, Joshua Sias, Lilly Lewis, Mathias Reynolds, Aemelia and Riley Gillespie; and his brother Christopher Fisher. Season champions crowned at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 24, 2023) – In the final evening of dirt track racing at the Kossuth County Speedway in 2023, five IMCA champions were crowned on Thursday to highlight a night of exciting racing. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw Chris Krug take a narrow early lead over Joe Doran and Tim Sidles with Brandon Nielsen, Josh Sidles and Mike Smith joining that group battling for the lead. Krug led the first three laps before Nielsen took over the top spot. Nielsen continued to hold the lead with those other drivers keeping the heat on. Only the yellow flag with two laps to go delayed Brandon’s fourth trip into victory lane this season at Algona. Krug won a hard-fought battle for the runner-up spot as Josh Sidles was third with Smith taking fourth and Tim Sidles rounded out the top five. Smith was the season champion. Melair steers to Selinsgrove PASS win

(Aug. 26, 2023) – Whether fighting for the early lead, flying on a clear track, or cutting through traffic, Mike Melair had the edge Saturday night, taking home the victory in an exciting, non-stop River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series 20-lap feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. The Warrington driver took the no. 36 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car across the finish line .466 seconds ahead of Nick Sweigart to score his first win since June of 2021 at Hagerstown. He appeared to win a race later that year at Lincoln, but in his excitement forgot to go straight to the scales after the race and was disqualified. This year he was leading at the white flag at Path Valley Speedway but came home second, and he had another runner-up finish at Port Royal Speedway. Rust wraps up track title in victory lane at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Aug 27, 2023) – Season and track champions were crowned Sunday night in the final night of IMCA Weekly Racing for the 2023 season at Benton County Speedway. And Joel Rust earned a double celebration at The Bullring. Rust, who entered the night with a 15 point lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Beaty Excavating, simply needed to take the green flag in the main event to lock up the title. He did that and more by earning his fourth win in weekly racing on the fast, smooth, quarter-mile. Chase Weimer held the early lead while Troy Cordes worked the top side into the lead from a third row start a few laps into the 20-lapper.
