Bruns gets first SportMod win at Off Road Speedway

(May 30) – The Saturday main event at Off Road Speedway that garnered the most attention featured a one-on-one duel between two Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod racers looking for a first-time victory. Dylan Pospisil and Troy Bruns battled before a caution during the 10th lap, and subsequent re­start, presented Bruns with an option that helped him seize the lead and, ultimately, the win. With Pospisil at the “point” and other cars aligned side-by-side behind him, Bruns had the choice of positioning his car on the inside or the outside, and his choice of the outside keyed his oppor­tunity. “My thinking was that he was so smooth on the bottom, I couldn’t beat him down there; he wasn’t messing up at all,” Bruns said. “The only way I could beat him was taking the top.” Two laps after the restart Bruns accelerated coming out of turn two and passed Pospisil on the outside going into the backstretch. Kenny collects first IMCA win and $5,000 at Route 66 Southern SportMod special

AMARILLO, Texas (May 30) – Brandon Kenny couldn’t have picked a better night for his career first Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod feature win. Kenny led every lap of Route 66 Motor Speedway’s topless special Saturday evening, earning $5,000 for his main event efforts. The win came in a Ramirez Race Car he and Modified driver Cole Traugott built in his hometown of Woodward, Okla. RRC teammate Mike Roach finished a straightaway off the pace, taking runner-up honors despite a broken right front shock. More than 70 Southern SportMods vied at Amarillo. “I knew we had a chance to run 1-2 because we’ve been running good so far this year,” said Kenny, who came into the night with five top-five finishes in as many IMCA starts at Longdale Speedway and Elk City Speedway. “I was ecstatic to win and when Mike pulled up alongside and held up one finger, then two fingers to tell me we ran 1-2, it made it even better.” Cody Smith, Randy Timms and Kelly Cross completed the top five finishers. Ruter races to Skip Rose Memorial checkers at I-35

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 31) – Ryan Ruter raced to another $1,000 payday ay I-35 Speedway, topping the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature in Sunday’s rescheduled Skip Rose Memo­rial. Ruter started the 20-lapper from the fifth spot and had the lead when the third circuit was scored. The race stayed green until a car spun and came to a stop in the first set of turns, forcing a green, white, checkered finish. Ruter pulled away to beat Jesse Hoeft to the finish by five car lengths. “We knew we had to get to the lead pretty quick,” said Ruter, who’d swept Frostbuster specials at Hancock County Speedway and I-35 in April. “Everything worked out for us.” Kelly Shryock started 11th and finished third. Hinton gets birthday win at Stuart 

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 31) – Jerry Hinton blew out the birthday candles and extinguished his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod opponents Sunday at Stuart Speedway. Hinton started seventh and took over the lead on lap eight, after Colton Nelson slid high in the first turn. Kody Havens was second and Clint Luellen recovered from a lap one spin to finish third. Casey Greubel was a first-time winner in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, getting the best of runner-up Marcus Fagan and Josh Daniels in third. Josh Gilman had the fastest ride in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature while 18th starting Luke Wanninger had the edge over Shane DeMey for second following a late restart. Austin Luellen scored another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory. Jamie Schirm was second and John Watson took third. Dean Richards led from the fourth lap to the finish in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Logan Rich­ards was second and third was Jacob Peters.

Benson leads Nebraska invasion of I-90

(May 30) – Seven of the season-high 12 Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars at I-90 Speedway came from Nebraska Saturday in a “Cornhusker Invasion.” Papillion, Neb., driver Clint Benson led the last 18 laps of the 20 lap feature for his first-ever I-90 Speedway win. The defending national champion took the lead away from Lincoln, Neb.’s Jeff Edginton early on. However, Edgington worked his way back to challenge Benson on a perfect dryslick track. Edgington and Adam Gullion, also from Lincoln, crossed right behind Benson for second and third.  Benson started fifth.  Gullion was the race’s hard charger as he came from 11th to third.

Serbus leads start to finish in Arlington Sprint feature 

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 30) – Saturday’s 95.7 The Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at Arlington Raceway saw Trevor Serbus lead from start to finish. Kyle Sargent was right behind him to take second ahead of Brett Allen in third. Winner of the MN 93 IMCA Modified main was Clint Hatlestad, ahead of Tim Pessek and Chad Porter. Making his move to the front with five laps left, Dan Mackenthun topped the B & B Racing Chas­sis IMCA Stock Cars. Cory Probst paced the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stocks. Matt Looft needed half the race before he could catch Chris Isaacson for the lead and the Un­hinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod victory. Nat Coopman was the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact winner.

Alvarado has 2,000 reasons to celebrate after sweep at Diamond Mountain special

VERNAL, Utah (May 29-30) – The success Ricky Alvarado enjoyed at Diamond Mountain Speed­way over the course of his Wild West Tour career carried over to a pair of weekend Racing For A Reason Rumble victories. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victories Friday and Saturday at Vernal were each worth $1,000 plus lap money. “I don’t know what it is about Diamond Mountain,” admitted Alvarado, a six-time winner when the Wild West Tour visited. “It’s a fun little track that fits my driving style.” Alvarado started outside pole in Friday’s 20-lapper and had the lead before sliding high and fall­ing back to fourth. He found the line at the top of the track, ran side-by-side with Justen Yeager for two circuits and then eked ahead on the last lap, winning by a car length. Hopkins bests Bay Area Tour foes at Southern Raceway

MILTON, Fla. (May 30) – Greg Hopkins started outside row one, took the lead early and stayed in front to the finish of Saturday’s Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour at Southern Raceway. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour win was the second of the season for Hopkins and came ahead of Justin Galbreath, who mounted a late charge from the ninth starting spot. Tietz tops Bruns Cup opener at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. (May 30) – Ken Tietz started his trek toward a third career Dominick Bruns Memo­rial Challenge Cup Chase crown with the Saturday checkers at Jackson Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory was Tietz’ first this season and was good for $1,000. Devin Smith, Shaun Bruns, David Wickman and Jason Mickelson completed the top five. “I was very thankful to get this one,” said Tietz, who topped Challenge Cup Chase point standings in 2011 and 2013. “There were some very good drivers up here.” Tietz had started third in the field of 26, then fell back to fifth behind Wickman, Smith, defending Chase champion Jim Larson and Dustin Larson. Lennox scores big payday at Quincy

(May 31) – The Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event was the special event of the evening Sunday at Quincy Raceway, with the 22-car field competing for $500 first place money. Pat Dunker of Dunker Concrete Services came up with a twist with the Back Row Challenge is­sued to the first two drivers to accept the challenge in the first five rows of the feature event. Bran­don Lennox and Wes Mayfield accepted the challenge and went to the rear of the field to start the 27-lap main event. As the crowd got into the festivities, more money was raised to bring the total bonus to win from the back row to a whopping $600, giving a possible $1,100 to win for Mayfield or Lennox. Lennox and Mayfield used several early caution periods to their advantage to move up quickly in the field with Lennox working his way into third by the 12th lap.
