Krone, Pfeifer repeat at Osborne Speedway

By Mike Hughes OSBORNE, Kan. (July 23) – Jake Krone and Colton Pfeifer made return appearances in victory lane at Osborne Speedway on Thursday night, during the Osborne County Fair. Josh Hudson led the opening lap of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature but was involved in a caution on the following lap. Krone, who won the night before on the ½-mile oval, worked his way to the front by the halfway mark and held on to win the 12-lap main event. Tyler Watts finished second and Hudson third. Rhett Kingsbury led the first six laps of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature before Pfeifer took the lead on the following lap. Pfeifer held on to win his second feature in as many nights. Travis Coop finished second, followed by Kingsbury. Shaylon Holloway pleased the hometown fans as he won the 15-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Osborne Speedway hosts opening night fair races

By Mike Hughes OSBORNE, Kan. (July 22) – Racing action returned to Osborne Speedway for the first of two nights of racing action during the Osborne County Fair on Wednesday. Cody Gearhart made the long haul worthwhile as he led all 20 laps of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Gearhart started outside pole and jumped to a quick lead and never looked back. The field bunched up after a lap seven caution for a spinning Joe Cleveland, but Gearhart drove away for the victory following the restart. David Murray Jr. chased Gearhart the entire distance but had to settle for second. Randy Wilson finished third, followed by Mike Petersilie and Jesse Richter. Chad Sterling took the lead from Robert Walker on lap six of the 15-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Sterling then drove on for a trip to the winner’s circle. Hoffman earns grand Hobby Stock win

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, Iowa (July 19) – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock racing was the highlight of a wild night of IMCA action Sunday at Raceway Park. With $1,000 on the line to the winner, 25 drivers took to the track for the 20-lap Jim Johnson Memorial Race. Johnson was a long time racer and race supporter in the Siouxland area who passed away from cancer last year. The battle for the win for most of the race was between Aaron Shearn, John Cain, and Andy Hoffman. After a late caution, Hoffman came out on top in a final shootout over Cain, Shearn, and Tony Fetterman. In other action, Drew Johnson took the win in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature over Lance Mielke, Luke Jackson, and point leader Cody Thompson. The Karl Chevrolet SportMod division hit the track with the top five drivers in the division separated by only six points. First checkers of season fly for Allen

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 18) – Brandon Allen led the distance Saturday at Arlington Raceway to pick up his first IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car victory of the season. Allen took the lead on the opening circuit and was a quarter of a lap ahead of the field for most of the race. Seventh starting Michael Stien was gaining on Allen lap by lap but ran out of time and settled for second ahead of Trevor Serbus. Cory Probst crossed the stripe just inches ahead of Mike Voight for his fifth straight and eighth overall Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock feature win. Clint Hatlestad caught Trent Loverude for the lead and eventual win in an MN 93 IMCA Modified feature that ran green to checkered. Josh Telecky had the lead in the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature for the first six laps but the hood on his car flew up, causing a caution and sending him to the work area. Andersen aces Northern SportMod main at Seymour

By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 19) – J.J. Andersen got reacquainted with the folks in victory lane Sunday at Seymour Speedway, following his first win in more than four years. The O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Northern SportMod feature started with a lap two caution, then finished with 18 non-stop laps. Dennis Miesler moved from the second row into the lead and had Andersen behind after the restart. The pair ran ahead of the field while a battle for third developed between Scott Besaw, Jeremy Cota, Lucas Lamberies and Travis Arenz. Andersen wrestled the front spot away from Miesler on lap nine and began into building his lead. Miesler became part of the race for second and had Lamberies challenge for a few laps. Andersen collected the win ahead of Miesler and Lamberies. Benji LaCrosse won his second straight and career 101st Budweiser IMCA Modified feature. Watson wins Wetzel Memorial

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 19) – John Watson was the big winner Sunday in Stuart Speedway’s John Wetzel Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Shannon Anderson ran right behind or alongside most of the way, but couldn’t complete a last-lap pass of Watson, who went home with a career-best $1,000 victory. Austin Luellen, Bill Bonnett and Jamie Songer rounded out the top five. Watson and Nebraska racer Shawn Slezak led the field to green. Watson led early over Buck Schafroth and Anderson, with Eric Stanton and Luellen trucking to the front. The final caution of the contest waved on lap eight and Watson picked up where he left off, leading Anderson, Luellen and Stanton. Fifteenth starting Bill Bonnett made it to fourth on lap 18 as the top three stayed the same. Business as usual for Olson at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 19) – Tony Olson’s dream season continued Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. In just 34 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod starts in 2015, Olson earned his 18th feature win, his seventh on the Vinton quarter-mile. Kurt Hogan took the lead from Jake Salisbury following a lap one caution while Olson worked through the pack from a fifth row start. Racing the top side, Olson made his way into the top five after three laps and then found himself challenging Hogan for the lead a handful of laps later. Olson swept around Hogan at the line at the midway point of the 16-lapper, then survived a pair of late stoppages to drive to victory ahead of Danny Dvorak and Matt Petrzelka. Damon Murty also raced to his seventh win of the season in the Ron-Da-Voo Lounge & Deli IMCA Stock Car 18-lapper. Cole, McCarty top Tri-State features

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (July 17-18) – Tate Cole and Ken McCarty were IMCA feature winners Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. Cole’s sixth Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win this season at Pocola came ahead of Van Gemmill and Zane Hunter. McCarty took home his fourth IMCA SportMod trophy. Logan Ellis and Dalton Ragsdale rounded out the top three. Winner of Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was Dale Richardson, who became a first-time visitor to victory lane. Jay Anderson was second and third went to Ron Grover.

34 celebrates 50th with Blast From the Past

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 18) – It was a Blast from the Past at 34 Raceway Saturday night as the 3/8-mile high bank celebrating its 50th season of racing. Admission price was rolled back to 1966 to $1.50, memorabilia was on display courtesy of Billy Dusenberry and yes, even the vintage race cars took to the track. Tales from the past were shared throughout the evening by former racers and current Hall of Fame members were remembered. Even the trophies were a reminder of the first race at 34 Raceway, which was originally called 34 Raceway Park. Fifty years later, 34 Raceway is listed in the top 10 in continuous operating tracks in the country. Race fans also dug deep as drivers went through the stands collecting money for the Cameron, Ill., families hit but a tornado last week. Wilson wins at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (July 17) – Spencer Wilson took the lead on lap four and pulled away to win the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature on a very busy Friday night at Dacotah Speedway. Jay Tooley led from the pole as Rusty Kollman, Tracy Domagala and Wilson raced three-wide for second. Wilson had the fastest car on track, quickly reeled in Tooley and started to check out. Lapped traffic became a problem as Jeremy Keller and Shawn Strand raced side-by-side for second. With four laps to go, Strand made contact with Dylan Barnhardt, spinning out both drivers out and collecting fifth running Mark Dahl. Strand was charged for the caution and sent to the back. After swapping the spot with Jerad Thelen, Keller finished a season-best second place. Josh Roehrich picked up his third Mach-1 Sport Compact feature win of the year.
