
Season opener draws 93 cars to Kossuth County
By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 5) – Mother Nature derailed the opening night by one week but that did not stop 93 cars to visit the Kossuth County Speedway in Algona for the 2016 season opener on Thursday. “We had to wait a week to get started with the rain and cold last week but it was worth the wait as the drivers put on a good show,” said track manager Ron Reefer. “Things went well. We had a decent car count and track was smooth and fast. Overall, it was a good evening of racing.” The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature saw Tad Reutzel grab the early lead but a flat front right tire ended his night and Ricky Thornton Jr. took over the lead. Thornton’s time out front lasted only three laps as he dropped his drive shaft on the back straightway and Dustin Smith took over the lead.
