Droste nips Goedert for win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 5) – The Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature thrilled the fans with plenty of exciting wheel to wheel action Sunday at Dubuque Speedway.

Luke Goedert took the lead from early race leader Jerry King and appeared to be on his way to his first local win of 2016 but Tyler Droste had other ideas. Droste took the green in the 10th position and steadily worked his way to the front in the 25-lap feature that ran caution-free.

Droste used both the high line and the extreme low side on his way to the front. Droste led the field under the white flag and then lapped traffic was a factor on the last circuit. Goedert ran the high line in turn four and Droste dove low and was able to get to the checkers taking the win by a mere couple of feet.

Luke Merfeld came from the fifth row to take third ahead of Dan Shelliam.

Ryan DeShaw scored his first feature win of the season in the Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified main event. DeShaw set sail on the top side in route to the 20-lap win. Ken Kostenbader advanced from his fourth row start to take second ahead of 12th position starter Jason Schueller.

Austin Schrage makes the long tow weekly from Cresco to race on the Dubuque Speedway high banks. Sunday night belonged to Schrage as he scored a hard fought win in the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Northern Sportmod feature. Schrage held off Eastern Iowa’s hottest SportMod driver, Tyler Soppe, in scoring the 15-lap feature win.

Jerry Miles extended his track point lead on Sunday night with another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win. Miles took the win over last week’s feature winner Tim Schneider.
