Day has best night in Sprint Series of Texas show at Boothill Speedway

GREENWOOD, La. (May 14) – Jeff Day crossed the state line to race his way to victory lane in a second IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car tour Saturday night. Day topped the Sprint Series of Texas feature at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway, outrunning Jason Howell to the checkers. Day’s son Michael, Dustin Woods and Ty Johnson completed the top five. The 25-lapper was interrupted by just a single caution and the frontrunners had to negotiate traffic much of the way. Michael Day started on the pole, directly in front of his father, and led early. Hinrichs, Stewart drive to West Liberty wins

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (May 14) – Racing action went on Saturday night at the West Liberty Raceway as nearly 100 race car drivers packed the pit area on a very blustery chilly mid-May evening. In the iWireless IMCA Late Model 25 lap feature it was Kyle Hinrichs scoring his third career feature win. Hinrichs took the lead at the green flag from his outside front row start and went on to lead the caution-free race the entire 25 laps. Cayden Carter ran a very close second in the early going before settling for the runner-up spot at the checkers by a couple car lengths. Jonathan Brauns turned in a great run in taking third. In only his second night ever in a race car, Derrick Stewart showed he has a bright career ahead of him in scoring a very impressive 20-lap feature win in the very tough Performance Concepts IMCA Modified division. Schmidt snaps up Boone feature win

BOONE, Iowa (May 14) – After suffering mechanical issues in last week’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, Jay Schmidt got back on track and snapped up the feature win Saturday at Boone Speedway. Schmidt slid under Michael Murphy out of turn four to take the lead at lap six and never looked back from there on his way to the checkers. Terry Pruitt finished second and Rod Richards came from 11th starting to finish third. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver Mike Van Genderen started ninth and ran down pole sitter Joel Bushore in the 20-lap main event, pursuing him relentlessly from lap six, and finally making the pass with a handful of laps remaining. Those final laps saw Van Genderen pull away and take the comfortable win. Bushore held on to second place. Third went to Tony Cox. Cody Gustoff led the 12-lap IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature from start to finish in securing his first visit to the winner’s circle this season. Kleczka dominates IMCA Modifieds at Luxemburg

(May 13) – On a night that had everyone huddling up to stay warm, Andy Kleczka stayed hot on the track and picked up the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win at Luxemburg Speedway. Kleczka started up front and never looked back. He put his right rear tire right on top of the track and pulled the field around the 1/3 mile. Kleczka’s only concern was a lap three yellow but after the caution it was a Friday Fun night for Kleczka. Kleczka went untouched the rest of the way and built a lead up to a straightaway in the eventual win. Sean Jerovetz made a run to second half way through the race but could never cut in to the lead. R.M. Van Pay finished third after a race-long duel with Brian Joski. Tom Brumlic opened as the king of the castle in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car showdown. Rain on the 13th is unlucky in Midwest, Wyoming

SPENCER, Iowa (May 13) – Clay County Fair Speedway was first to pull the plug with cancellations and postponements following around the Midwest. Also KO’d on this unlucky Friday the 13th were Crawford County Speedway, Davenport Speedway, Dubuque Speedway, Fairmont Raceway, the Iowa State Fair Speedway, Lee County Speedway, Marshalltown Speedway, Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway and Princeton Speedway. Maquoketa Speedway has canceled for Saturday. They’ve checked rain gauges in Wyoming as well. Cloud Peak Raceway has postponed from Friday to Saturday, Billings Motorsports Park has canceled Friday and Saturday, and Gillette Thunder Speedway will be silent on Saturday.

Thornton dominates opening night at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 8) – Stuart Speedway kicked off season 55 with winners new and old taking home the hardware. Ricky Thornton Jr., Clint Luellen, Mike Nichols, Shannon Anderson and Jake Benischek took the wins on First State Bank Night at the Races. Dylan Book led the first three laps of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature before Josh Gilman moved into the top spot. Gilman held the lead until a lap eight caution slowed the field. Gilman stayed at the front for two more laps, and that’s when Ricky Thornton Jr. took over. As Thornton Jr. was pulling away, a terrific battle for second was on with Tim Ward coming out on top. The Arizona transplants went on to take the top two spots with Thornton Jr. winning, Ward second and Todd VanEaton third. Callahan rides high side to Dubuque Speedway victory

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (May 8) – Mothers Day featured Sunday night racing action at the Dubuque Speedway with a very smooth wide racing surface allowing the drivers to put on a very entertaining night of wheel-to-wheel racing action. Joel Callahan scored his second win of the young season in the Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model division. Callahan fought off the constant challenges Luke Goedert in scoring the hard-fought win. With Callahan working the low side of the turns, Goedert was able to use the high line to pull alongside Callahan on lap 10. That move prompted Callahan to quickly move up to the high side and the remainder of the 25-lap feature saw Callahan stretch his lead. Goedert ran second ahead of Luke Merfeld. Matt Gansen followed up his Friday night Farley Speedway win with another win in the Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified class. Thompson tops Sport Compact tussle at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERESON, S.D. (May 8) – After two weeks of rainouts, Raceway Park welcomed its second night of championship action Sunday. In the KISS 107 FM IMCA Sport Compact division, Cody Thompson took advantage of a rare front row start to lead every lap of the main event. Ramsey Meyer came through the field for a second place finish. The race for third was one of the best battles of the night as Don Tank swapped positions with and finally defeated Tyler Thompson. The Car Quest IMCA Hobby Stock feature also had a flag-to-flag victor as David Miller kept the field at bay for the entire race. Andy Hoffman came out on top in the battle for second while Aaron Shearn was third. The third feature to hit the track was the 16-lapper for MOPAR IMCA Northern SportMods. Traugott gets out of Dodge with second local win of season

(May 7) – Cole Traugott picked off his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified score of the year at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday, with first-time local winners of 2016 including Darren Hacker in the IMCA SportMods, Jason Rogers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Matt O’Hair in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Traugott raced by Arizona native Tanner Black on the top side three laps in and led the rest of the way in the 20-lapper and prevailed over a field of 25 entries. While Black had taken the initial lead from the pole, Traugott wasted little time rallying from the sixth starting into the lead. Woodward, Okla., reached victory lane as well in the 20-lap IMCA SportMod feature with Hacker besting the 24-car field. Wauge wins Modified opener at Southern Oregon

(May 7) – Driving a great race from his pole position start, multi-time track champion Mark Wauge won the 25-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Wauge hinted at possibly racing for another championship and his win was not easy with Matt Duste shadowing his every move up front. The season-opening feature ran non-stop. Wauge and Jesse Bailey shared the front row and ran 1-2 before Duste made an inside pass to grab second. Nick Trenchard took over third and Wauge was in lapped traffic by the 12th circuit. The leader never really shook Duste off of his tail in the caution-free event but drove a great race for the victory. Jesse Bailey collected a third place finish ahead of Albert Gill and Trenchard.
