Christianson parks in Dacotah Speedway’s victory lane

MANDAN, N.D. (May 19) – Drew Christianson made his move in the last set of turns, then parked his IMCA Modified in victory lane at Dacotah Speedway Friday night. The win at Mandan was his first since 2010. Veteran Herb Bargmann grabbed the early lead; Travis Ulmer started to catch up as Myles Tomlinson lurked in third. That three-car battle for the lead, allowed Christianson to close in. Tomlinson and Christianson split Ulmer as Bargmann got off the backstretch. Christianson shuffled into the lead, bringing Tomlinson with him. Using lapped traffic as a pick, Tomlinson grabbed the lead as the white flag waved. However, Christianson came back and threw the car in hard in turns three and four. Using a clean slide job, Christianson slid up in front of Tomlinson to pick up his first local feature victory in seven seasons. IMCA Modifieds chase $2,000 top check at Illinois’ Sycamore Speedway

MAPLE PARK, Ill. – An Illinois speedplant celebrating its 54th season welcomes IMCA Modifieds for a $2,000 to win main event during the Memorial Weekend. Sycamore Speedway at Maple Park hosts what is believed to be the first-ever appearance by the division, on the half-mile clay oval on Saturday, May 27. A minimum of $150 will be paid to start the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifying event. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Pit passes are $30. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5-11 and free for four and under. Gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. The drivers’ meeting also starts at 6 p.m. and racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps. Bruce is best again at Outlaw

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 19) – Shawn Bruce won for the second time this season, in the Farmers Insurance/Marion Decker Agency IMCA Modified feature Friday at Outlaw Speedway. Brad Smith and Scott Sebring brought the field to the green for its 20-lap feature and Sebring grabbed the lead as Jake Karlnoski moved into second spot. Smith spun a lap later and on the restart Sebring maintained the lead as Glenn Whritenour and Bruce battled for third. Trouble struck on lap six and Bruce inherited second spot. He fought Sebring for the lead until Sebring slid high in turn four on lap 10, giving Bruce the top spot. Bruce pulled away from Rich Karlnoski at the finish to take his second IMCA Modified feature of the season, with Sebring third.

Oshkosh sees four first-time 2017 winners

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (May 19) – Four feature events produced as many different first-time 2017 winners Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified checkers flew for Steve Schneider after a long battle with Dan Roedl. Jeremy Christians took the lead on the seventh lap of the Outlaw Chassis IMCA Stock Car main and left the rest of the field to race for second place. Brock Saunders got the best of the Don Herman Auto Repair IMCA Northern SportMod field for the first time locally since July 31 of 2015. Mike Meier took the lead in the Lynn’s Service Center IMCA Sport Compacts on lap four and despite heavy pressure from Chris Maas for much of the second half of the race, was able to win his first feature of the season. A solid field of 121 cars filled the pit area on a windy night at Oshkosh.

IMCA Modified Madness postponed at Davenport Speedway

DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 19) – The IMCA Modified Madness 50 special, scheduled for tonight (Friday) at Davenport Speedway, has been postponed due to weather. The event will be run next Friday, May 26. The event features IMCA Modifieds racing for $2,000 to win purse. Also racing will be the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, the Koehler Electric Street Stocks and the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods competing for weekly track points. Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport. Defending CRSA champ scores big at Afton

(May 12) – Defending champion Kyle Smith beat the rest of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to the checkers and the CRSA event at Afton Motorsports Park beat undesirable weather that was closing in on the Northeast Friday night. The racing math teacher Dustin Purdy, brought his no. 83 to the green flag to begin the 25-lap main event, alongside future engineering student Tyler Jashembowski. Purdy set the pace early. Eddie Strada pulled alongside and actually took the lead before his ride lost power as he was crossing under the flag stand at lap six. Purdy’s next challenger was Smith, who worked his way from fifth starting and passed for the lead before halfway. With a few late race yellows to work through, Smith took solid command and went on to secure the victory on a very emotional evening for himself and car owner John Matrafailo. “Johnny’s father passed away earlier this week. Gilman is fastest in IMCA Modified main at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 12) – Josh Gilman was dialed in Friday night and won the IMCA Modified feature at Stuart Speedway. Matt Webb and Gilman drew front row stars. Gilman shot out to the early lead with Webb and Jeff James battling for second. Clint Luellen and Todd VanEaton joined the fray on lap six. By the time things shook out it was Luellen in second, but Gilman was in another zip code and went on to take the win. Luellen finished second with VanEaton third. First-time winners were Brandon Cox in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and John Watson in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. David Smith accomplished a career-first, hitting the front wall and getting upside down after winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Curtis Miller took the Mach-1 Sport Compact checkers.

West Liberty hosts night two of Tri-Track Challenge

Out Pace Racing Products Late Models battle it out on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds half-mile for 40 laps with the winner pocketing $2,000. In addition to the high-powered Late Models, the Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds, Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Northern SportMods, Kile Motorsports IMCA Stock Cars and US 6 Bodyworks IMCA Sport Compacts will all be in action. Late Models will be battling it out for the $2,000 top prize. In addition to the high-powered Late Models, the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be in action. Friday’s action will get underway with hot laps at 7 p.m. The first green flag is slated to wave at 7:30 p.m.

United Rebel Sprint Series returning to Thomas County Speedway

COLBY, Kan. – The United Rebel Sprint Series will open the 2017 season this Saturday night, May 20 at Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kan. Last year Ty Williams tamed the semi-banked 3/8 mile oval to take the win in front of a packed house. Joining the URSS Sprint Cars will be IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Hot Laps are at 6 p.m. with races kicking off at 7 p.m. With Mother Nature scoring all the checkers for the year the URSS Rebels are chomping at the bit to hit the track.
