IMCA Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods new at North Dakota’s Thunder Mountain Speedway

BOTTINEAU, N.D. – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers will chase points on eight Thursday nights this season at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Bottineau. “We’re getting some interest from drivers in both divisions looking to race another night for national and state points,” said promoter Jason Laducer. “We been WISSOTA sanctioned and in keeping in line with other tracks in the area decided to go with IMCA.” Race nights on the 2017 schedule at Thunder Mountain are May 4 and 18, June 8 and 22, July 20 and 27, and Aug. 3 and 17. “These divisions are good transitions for younger drivers to what we consider entry level divisions,” Laducer said. “Once the Hobby Stock and SportMod divisions are established, our eventual goal is to have special events for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.” The all-volunteer Thunder Mountain Speedway Association is already getting the ¼-mile dirt oval ready for opening night and Laducer said “a few unique local sponsorships” are in place for the upcoming season. Montezuma County readies for IMCA Stock Car Rumble In The Rockies 

CORTEZ, Colo. – Big paydays for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are on the line both nights of Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway’s season-opening Rumble In The Rockies special. The Friday, April 21 feature pays $750 to win while a top prize of $1,000 is on the line on Saturday, April 22. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region, Allstar Performance State and track points will be given both nights. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 7 p.m. with racing at dusk. Pit passes are $30 and pill draw is $20. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Family passes are $25. An open practice runs from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 19. Spring Break Season Opener next for Independence Motor Speedway

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The 2017 racing season is set to drop the green flag this weekend at Independence Motor Speedway. The Spring Break Season Opener features a $1,000 to win payday for IMCA Modifieds. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 with hot laps slated for 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $15 and pit passes are $25. On the card in addition to IMCA Modifieds are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Park Jefferson opens season with Jimmy Cole Night

JEFFERSON, S.D. – Park Jefferson Speedway will open its 2017 racing season on Saturday, April 8 with Salute to Jimmy Cole Night. Popular racer Cole is fighting cancer and this night will see Park Jefferson donate $1 from every ticket to his recovery fund. This night will also be the kickoff to the 2017 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season and thanks to fan donations, the IMCA Modified winner will earn $1,255 along with a berth of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Fronsman, Stafford are Canyon IMCA winners

(April 2) – George Fronsman captured his fifth victory of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division while Bradley Stafford took home his third IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win in a row at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night. The Stock Cars once again put on one of the best races of the evening. After picking up his first win of the season two weeks ago at the Shamrock Showcase, Cody Center jumped out to the early lead. Behind him the battle raged as Justin Thornton battled Fronsman throughout the first half of the race. Fronsman continued to apply the pressure until he was finally able to make a pass to the inside in the late stages of the race. Leraas leads last in Virginia Sprint Series opener

(April 1) – A cool evening greeted fans on opening night and Mike Leraas cooled off the rest of the Virginia Sprint Series field to take the feature win Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Glenn Worrell and Leraas paced the IMCA RaceSaver main event field to green and it was Worrell out first with Leraas, Tony Harris and Jerald Harris all in a group at the front. Laps clicked off fast as Leraas was making the high line work. He went to the front on lap 15 just as Worrell was fading. The Harris brothers went by Worrell also and Tony went on the attack. Sprint Series of Oklahoma reschedules Longdale show

By David Smith Jr. LONGDALE, Okla. – Saturday night’s event at Longdale Speedway for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and the United Rebel Sprint Series Myers Racing Engines national was canceled because of rain. Track and series officials have rescheduled this combined event for Saturday, Aug. 26. The next event for the Sprint Series of Oklahoma will be held Friday, April 21, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, for the second of seven races scheduled at the speedway. In the season opener on March 25, it was Wichita Falls, Texas driver Chad Koch getting the best of a 31-car field to capture his first-ever series victory.
