Format changes are few for Sept. 1-6 Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 1) – Changes in the race night format during the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s are few and far between. Super Nationals runs from Sept. 1-6 at Boone Speedway. Subject to car counts at the 32nd annual event, the number of heat races, “B” features and qualifying features are the same this year as in 2013 for the Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Car count numbers will determine the number of Northern SportMod “B” features. Kay seeks third straight checkers at Independence Deery

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 30) – Point leader Justin Kay has already won three times this season to match his 2013 Deery Brothers Summer Series total. He’ll try to equal his personal best of three straight feature wins when the IMCA Late Model tour travels to Independence Motor Speedway next Wednesday, Aug. 6. Kay won for the first time in his brief Deery career at Independence last year, then followed with wins at Davenport and West Liberty. He won at East Moline this May, then again on July 8 at West Liberty and July 13 at Dubuque. The upcoming feature at Independence pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Shryock, Hahne, Gustin all have grand time at Hamilton County’s Monday Night Mayhem

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (July 28) – Kelly Shryock, Jason Hahne and Jenae Gustin all became $1,000 feature winners after Thursday Night Thunder became Monday Night Mayhem. Shryock topped the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Hahne paced the IMCA Late Models and Gustin rang up the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win during the rescheduled fair special at Hamilton County Speedway. Payouts get boost for IMCA Great Plains Series at Dawson County

LEXINGTON, Neb. (July 29) – A bigger purse has been announced for the eighth installment of the Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars now race for $1,300 to win and a minimum of $100 to start the Sunday, Aug. 3 main event at Dawson County Raceway. An anonymous donor added $1,000 to the main event purse for the Ethanol Night program; another $1,000 in bonuses has been added to the pole dash, boosting the total payout for the draw/redraw show to more than $6,000. The top 12 from the heats will transfer and draw for their starting position in the 10-lap pole dash. Winner of the dash will have the choice of splitting the $1,000 with the runner-up and inverting the 12 spots or taking the front row with the runner-up and the third through 12 place drivers each get $100. Long road leads to Lawson’s 2nd Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 26) – It’s been a long road for Brian Lawson after winning a Virginia Sprint Series pavement race early in the season but it all came good again on the red clay at Natural Bridge Speedway. Lawson topped Saturday night’s IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with a strong dash to the checkers that carried him across the stripe in front of Ryan Price. Chris Ware and Eliah Omwake paced the field to green with Omwake up high and wide open. The high line was working for him as he streaked away. Glenn Worrell made a move on Ware and took off after Omwake as the non-stop feature clicked away. Omwake was flying while Worrell had to deal with Ryan Price and Lawson. Full program tonight at Thunderhill Raceway

IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Street Stocks will be in action beginning at 6:30 p.m. start time. The Door County Fair show is being treated as a regular night and is a track point night. Lineups will be set by point average. The night will also count towards the $30,000 contingency program. In addition to a full night of racing, there will be a Tough Truck Tug-O-War competition and a tentative Burn Out contest. Shute to defend Fast Shafts All-Star title

BOONE, Iowa (July 29) – The 2013 race winner will return to defend his Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational crown. Todd Shute prevailed in one of – if not the – most talked about Modified events of the season during last year’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. He was one of 15 All-Stars, three from each of IMCA’s five Modified regions, elected via Facebook to the 2014 starting field for the Friday, Sept. 5 race. Thirteen more starters will be elected, also through Facebook, from among the next top 50 vote recipients. That balloting runs from this afternoon (Tuesday) through the end of the business day next Tuesday, Aug. 5. Eleven different states are represented by the initial group of All-Stars. Green takes extra lap, top check at Britt Stock special

BRITT, Iowa (July 25) – That wasn’t a victory lap Derek Green took after Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special at Hancock County Speedway. He was just making sure. Green collected a career-best payday of $4,000 while leading all but the first three circuits of the 25-lap county fair special. He took the checkers close to a straightaway in front of defending race winner Dan Mackenthun. “It seemed like a long race after leading for 20-some laps,” he said. “I was so pumped up that I wasn’t sure about taking the checkers, so I took another lap to make sure.” Green took the initial green flag from fourth and used an early restart to get the lead. “Once I got in front I went to the bottom. Stanford conquers finale at Willamette, rules Wild West Speedweek standings

(July 26) – Alex Stanford’s third Wild West Speedweek victory made him the first driver from outside the state of Oregon to win the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour title. The $2,000 victory came Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Travis Peery, who ran in front as late as lap 32 before Stanford got the lead back, ended in second. Jesse Williamson, Collen Winebarger and Dustin Cady were next across the stripe. Greg Walters led the opening lap before a caution quickly bunched the field back up. Winebarger took advantage of the ensuing restart to take over the front spot. Winebarger was quick for much of the first half of the race but was passed by Stanford on lap 14. The California visitor set sail and appeared uncatchable before a caution for debris on lap 25 resulted in what proved to be the final restart of the night. Quad City Speedway hosts Aug. 3 Weedon Memorial

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – Quad City Speedway hosts its ninth annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial on Sunday, Aug. 3, with a $1,000 to win, minimum $150 to start feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Sponsored by J & J Camper Sales, the draw/redraw event is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. At stake are IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State, but no local track points. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. The entry fee for Modifieds is $40 and pit passes are $30.
