Kids’ Night is Aug. 16 at Independence Motor Speedway

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Before the first school bell rings, a night of fun is in store for young race fans at Independence Motor Speedway. Area businesses have assembled to sponsor Kids’ Night this Saturday, August 16. Along with a number of prizes for the youngsters, a candy dash will be held during intermission. Superior Cleaning Services, Tarpy Trucking, RE/MAX Independence Realty and Independence Plumbing & Heating, all of Independence, will provide candy for the candy dash. Superior Cleaning Services is also donating can koozies and Tyler Droste T-shirts for the event. In addition, Performance Bodies of Cedar Falls will provide T-shirt giveaways. Bicycle giveaways are also planned. The Aug.16 IMCA weekly racing program includes Late Models, Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods. Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Aug. 15 IMCA Modified winner earns $1,000 at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. – The Cory Jonet Memorial returns to Luxemburg Speedway this Friday, Aug. 15. This is the second year for the memorial. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. All five divisions will be in action. Village Kitchen is the sponsor for the evening. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified winner will go home with $1,000. Eddie Muenster picked up the win last week in impressive fashion. Jason Czarapata is in search of his first-ever Modified crown at Luxemburg. He owns a 21-point lead on James Tebon. Brandon Czarapata is inching closer to his third straight title in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. He won his fifth feature of the season and opened up a five point advantage over Rod Snellenberger. Lucas Lamberies picked up his second main event win of the season in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division in a season where he has run on a limited basis. Luellen wins Bones Memorial Topless SportMod feature at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 10) – The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were missing their roofs, but none of their speed Sunday night at Stuart Speedway. Clint Luellen came out on top of the first annual Bones Memorial Topless SportMod 25-lap feature on Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night at the Races. The drivers voted a few weeks ago to make the memorial a “topless” event where they had to remove their roofs and sail panels. The race paid tribute to fallen official Richard “Bones” Welch. Josh Sink and Chase Rudolf got the lucky draw and led the field to green with Jenae Gustin coming through to lead lap one. Gustin held the top spot until Clint Luellen passed her on lap four. Luellen held the lead through three cautions, but Gustin took the lead on lap 19. Luellen came around to take it back a lap later before one final caution flew for debris on lap 23. Petersilie, Traskowsky get the job done at Salina Speedway

by Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (Aug. 8) – One of the strongest runs Friday night at Salina Speedway came in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. Mike Petersilie started seventh in the feature and took little time to roar through the field and gain the top spot. Once out front, Petersilie ran away to his second win of the season. Mike Traskowsky continued his dream season in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock division. Traskowsky made his way past Terry Blessing for the lead following a mid-race caution to drive to his sixth win of the year.

DeVries wins first feature at Algona Raceway

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Kaytee DeVries won her first Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature of the 2014 season Saturday night at Algona Raceway. Chad Palmer came from inside row four to drive to his second win of the year in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Also earning his second feature win of the season was Kyle Ricke in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Ricke topped the 19-car field after starting outside of row four. Jeremy Mills drove to his third feature win of the summer in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds after starting outside of the second row. Jake Simpson topped a 20-car field to capture his third win of the season in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

DeYoung and DeYoung in Modified features at Crystal Motor Speedway

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Aug. 9) – Myron DeYoung was in a tight battle with A.J. Ward most of the race, but finally came home with the win in the Port City Race Car IMCA Modified feature Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway. The event was a make-up from the rain-shortened August 2 program. Brady Hollenbeck ran third ahead of Brenten DeYoung and Jimmy Hale Jr. John DeYoung Jr. won a hotly contested event over Chad Wernette in the regularly scheduled Modified main. Myron DeYoung, A.J. Ward and Kenny Playter completed the top five.

Ryland tops SportMods, at Antioch Speedway

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Aug. 9) – “Fast Freddie” Ryland lived up to his name Saturday night by riving to the win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature at Antioch Speedway. Ryland chased down and passed Nick Spainhoward in the final two laps to drive to victory. Rob Gallaher worked around Megan Ponciano for third while Jeremy Hoff completed the top five.

Osborn, Dolan, Nichols, Thompson take checkers at Dawson County Speedway

LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 10) – Leading the final five laps was enough for Colton Osborn to claim the checkered flag in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature Sunday night at Dawson County Speedway. Osborn started in the fourth row and was able to work his way into contention just past the halfway point of the race on his way to the victory. Chad Dolan darted to the lead on the opening lap from his fourth row starting position and never looked back en route to the win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Wasting no time to get to the front, Mike Nichols earned the victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Nichols drove his way to the lead on the third lap and was able to remain in front throughout the remainder of the event. Cox collects career first Modified win at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 9) – Cottage Grove Speedway hosted Cottage Grove Area Chamber Of Commerce/Pepsi Night at the races Saturday night. In the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature, Kinzer Cox was the car to beat. Despite six cautions throughout the event, retained the lead after each restart. Although he has spent only a handful of nights in a Modified, Cox paced the field for the entire distance to collect his first career victory.

Muenster, Czarapata, Lamberies, Moede winners at Luxemburg Speedway

(Aug. 8) – Eddie Muenster started on the outside pole of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Luxemburg Speedway Friday night and decided to make this race a no-doubter early. Muenster flew away from the field in the caution-free event and hid in lapped traffic to score his first win of the season. Brandon Czarapata raced the low side to the lead on lap 11 of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature to drive to victory. It was Czarapata’s division-leading sixth win of the season. Lucas Lamberies worked the low side to challenge leader Kelsy Hayes on lap 14 of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Lamberies took over the top spot a short time later to drive to his second win of the year. Marcus Moede earned his second win of the year in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division. He entered a brief three-wide battle for the lead before taking control on the eighth circuit to drive to his first win since opening night.
