Cotton Bowl, HO’T shows bring curtain down on IMCA Lone Star Series

PAIGE, Texas – A fan appreciation night program and two Texas Nationals shows bring the curtain down on IMCA’s Lone Star Series. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are in action Thursday, July 3 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco. The top driver in points in each division for the final three nights of the series get $250 bonuses. A kids’ bicycle giveaway is in the works at Cotton Bowl, where fireworks and a Cody McCarver concert follow the races. Winner’s shares of the purses at Paige are $450 for the Modifieds, $425 for the Southern SportMods, $300 for the Stock Cars and $200 for the Hobby Stocks. Weather cancels opening night of Cottage Grove Modified Nationals

(June 27) – Unfortunately weather prevented the first night of the annual Modified Nationals from getting under way at the Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday June 27th. Saturday, June 28 is still on and will feature the Race Of Champions in the program. Also on the card will be the Northwest Extreme Sprints and Hornets. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, military and juniors ages 13-17, $5 for youths ages 6-12 and free for five and under. A family pass good for two adults and up to four youths sells for $35. The track website is www.cottagegrovespeedway.com. New XFactor Bushings awards go to IMCA special events drivers

TULSA, Okla. – What started as Jason Gilbert’s hobby pays off this season for special events drivers in three IMCA divisions. XFactor Bushings of Tulsa, Okla., gives $50 product certificates to designated place finishers at as many as 80 specials for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods in 2014. “Our bushings cater most to those divisions. Our flex bushings are really taking off with the I-Stocks and Southern SportMods now,” explained company founder and operator Gilbert. “IMCA has a very large following so it was a no-brainer to partner up with them.” A member of his father Bobby’s race team, Gilbert designed his first bushing as a hobby in 2001. Marshalltown canceled June 27; next Friday is 50th anniversary celebration

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 27) – Mother Nature decided to rain out the races for tonight (Friday) at the Marshalltown Speedway on what was to have been Shawn’s Custom Hay Grinding Night. Marshalltown Speedway celebrates its golden anniversary next Friday, July 4. There will be a free luncheon from noon-1 p.m. and fans are invited to bring out old photos, memorabilia, and stories to share. Spectator admission for that evening’s race program will be $5 for adults and children 11 and under get in free on this special occasion. All retired past track champions and their families are invited to attend and receive complimentary grandstand admission. Mullen has $10,000 reasons to celebrate at Clash at the Creek

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 26) – Some guys never earn $10,000 in their career, let alone win that amount in one night. That is exactly what Mike Mullen accomplished with his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at 141 Speedway, leading all 50 laps of the Clash at the Creek. Twenty-four of the best Modified drivers in the country were pared from 69 entries, from 10 states, for the sixth annual special and Mullen started on the pole by virtue of two heat wins on Wednesday night. Mullen opened up strong with a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Darin Duffy. Jeff Taylor worked his way around Duffy by lap 20, right before the only caution of the race came out. When the race restarted, Mullen again forged ahead with Taylor in tow. Josh Long had started 13th on the field and started knocking off cars as he ran a smooth race down low. Buena Vista Raceway’s Suter Memorial sports $1,000 Stock Car prize

ALTA, Iowa (June 27) – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $1,000 to win at Buena Vista Raceway’s Wednesday, July 2 Kyle Suter Memorial. A minimum of $100 will be paid to take the green flag in the draw/redraw show. North Central Line Service sponsors the pre-holiday special, which also features IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Mach-1 Sport Compacts and BVR Bombers. The feature will pay $700 to win, second place pays $400, third pays $300, fourth pays $225 and fifth pays $200. Payout is unchanged from sixth on back. Cardinal’s Kelly Sheen Memorial guarantees big paydays in four IMCA divisions

EUNICE, N.M. (June 26) – Four IMCA divisions take their turn running for big paydays at Cardinal Speedway’s fifth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial Topless Shootout. Total purse for the Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 special is more than $20,000. As the name of the event implies, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods must remove all body panels above the deck, including the roof, sail panels and pillar posts. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $3,000 to win, Modifieds for $2,000, SportMods for $1,500 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500. A sponsor added $2,300 to the Stock Car purse so that feature now pays $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third, $800 for fourth, $500 for fifth, $250 for sixth, $200 for seventh, $150 for eighth, $125 for ninth and a minimum of $100 to start. Cook wins tune-up to Stock Car Shootout

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 25) – Jason Cook tuned up for next week’s Great American Budweiser Stock Car Shootout by winning Wednesday’s main event at Southern Iowa Speedway. Brandon Jay led early in the 18-lapper with Cook knocking on the door before the only caution of the race flew on lap two, when Damon Murty got sideways and collected Todd Reitzler, Doug Sylvester and Brock Welch. Murty got moving before the yellow came out, kept his spot for the ensuing restart and was briefly in second before Cook got the position back, then passed Jay for the lead on lap five. Cook appeared to be heading to the win but Murty and Cayden Carter didn’t make it easy for him. Carter grabbed the lead coming to the white flag but Cook took back coming to the checkered to pick up his first win at Osky. Carter, Murty, Corey Stout and Jay rounded out the top five. Rookie A.J.
