Stanford conquers finale at Willamette, rules Wild West Speedweek standings

(July 26) – Alex Stanford’s third Wild West Speedweek victory made him the first driver from outside the state of Oregon to win the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour title. The $2,000 victory came Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Travis Peery, who ran in front as late as lap 32 before Stanford got the lead back, ended in second. Jesse Williamson, Collen Winebarger and Dustin Cady were next across the stripe. Greg Walters led the opening lap before a caution quickly bunched the field back up. Winebarger took advantage of the ensuing restart to take over the front spot. Winebarger was quick for much of the first half of the race but was passed by Stanford on lap 14. Quad City Speedway hosts Aug. 3 Weedon Memorial

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – Quad City Speedway hosts its ninth annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial on Sunday, Aug. 3, with a $1,000 to win, minimum $150 to start feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Sponsored by J & J Camper Sales, the draw/redraw event is a qualifier for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. At stake are IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State, but no local track points. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. The entry fee for Modifieds is $40 and pit passes are $30. Pit gates at East Moline open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3:30 p.m. The draw ends and the drivers’ meeting starts at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:15 p.m. with racing to follow. IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods featured at Aug. 1,2 Frontier Days

LOVELOCK, Nev. – Both IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will be featured during the second annual City Auto Parts/NAPA Know How 40 special Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2 at Lovelock Speedway. Modifieds run for $500 to win on opening night and for a top prize of $1,000 in their 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier on Saturday. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded each night. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, military personnel and students ages 11-15, and free for kids 10 and under. Taylor adds Governor’s Cup to North Dakota laurels

MANDAN, N.D. (July 26) – The champion of the Dakota Classic Tour is also the winner of Dacotah Speedway’s Governor’s Cup special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Jeff Taylor earned $1,600 for his efforts at the 24th annual event. Aaron Turnbull was in front briefly on the final turn before Taylor ducked in low and won the sprint to the checkers. “Aaron passed me clean. He’s a heck of a racer,” said Taylor, who had drawn the pole start while Turnbull drove his way up from seventh. “He wanted to win it and I wanted to win it.” Hank Berry, Jerad Thelen and Jeremy Keller rounded out the top five. Taylor had damaged his own car during qualifying for the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour date at Mandan and wound up 14th, his lowest finish of the July 6-11 tour, in a borrowed ride. Stanford becomes first to repeat in Wild West Modified Speedweek

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (July 25) – When the checkers flew Friday at Willamette Speedway, Alex Stanford was the first repeat winner in the Wild West Modified Speedweek. Stanford chased down Jesse Williamson on the 33rd circuit for the $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory. He’d raced his way onto the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with his July 22 Speedweek feature victory at Cottage Grove Speedway. Williamson had been fast out of the gate as he grabbed the lead on the initial start in and looked very dominant in the early goings. The entire field raced hard but clean, producing three- to four-wide action all over the track. It looked like the race would go caution free but a yellow came out on lap 26 due to debris. This caution bunched the field up just as the leaders were dealing with lapped traffic. Tech revelation puts Gaylord on right track for BST checkers

HOLYOKE, Colo. (July 21) – Ryan Gaylord’s journey to victory lane Monday night at Phillips County Raceway got its start two nights before in the tech area at Calhan. “I had been struggling and they found the left side wheelbase was way off at Calhan,” Gaylord explained after his $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win in the Precise Racing Products BST show at Holyoke. “That was a blessing in disguise because it really helped us turn the car around.” Gaylord ran seventh at El Paso County Speedway and worked out some kinks with a mid-pack finish Sunday at Thomas County Speedway. Thomas County BST feature win goes to Hansen

COLBY, Kan. (July 20) – A rare visit to a favorite speedplant resulted in a second Precise Racing Products BST win in three nights for John Hansen. Hansen started ninth and was in the lead for good by the 10th circuit in the Sunday night IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified 25-lapper at Thomas County Speedway. The win paid $1,000. “We’ve won a few fair specials here the last couple years. Thomas County is definitely a favorite track, we just don’t get here enough,” Hansen said. “The track was really racy. There was plenty of room to race on the high side and that’s where a lot of the passing was done.” Up to third by lap eight, Hansen took charge after the ensuing restart. Hansen leads flag to flag in Lamar BST

LAMAR, Colo. (July 18) – John Hansen opened with a flag to flag run in the opener of a four-night Precise Racing BST Series trek. The Friday IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified checkers came at Lamar Speedway, paid $1,000 and put Hansen on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “We’ve been successful at Lamar before although this time wasn’t as peaceful,” Hansen said following a 25-lapper that saw its share of cautions. “Brady (Coen) pressured me the whole race and pulled alongside a couple times.” Coen, Jeremy Frenier, Eddie Belec and Ryan Gaylord rounded out the top five. Caution opens door for Cordes in XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Indee

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 24) – The caution that Troy Cordes was hoping for finally came out with eight laps left in Thursday’s XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event at Independence Motor Speedway. Defending IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series champion Ronn Lauritzen drew the outside pole start and clearly had the fastest ride through the first 22 circuits. Cordes had taken the opening green from 11th and worked his way steadily to second but was still well off the pace before the fateful yellow flew for a car stopped on the track. The two Independence regulars dueled up front before Cordes finally found his way to the front. The final caution, for a car perched on the backside of turn four, set up a green, white, checkered finish. Cordes pulled ahead to take the checkers a couple car lengths ahead of Lauritzen.
