Long tow for Hawkeye Dirt Tour opener pays off for Wolla

VINTON, Iowa (May 19) – Rain in North Dakota was bad news for drivers in Iowa Tuesday night at Benton County Speedway. Jason Wolla made a last-minute decision to travel 14-plus hours from his hometown of Ray, in western North Dakota, for the opening event in IMCA’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour. He started 11th, took the lead from Mark Elliott following a 13th circuit restart and outran defending champion Mike Van Genderen in traffic late in the 40-lapper. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win paid $1,000. “We made a last-second decision to come here and it paid off,” said Wolla, who’d finished fourth at Vinton en route to the Frostbuster Series crown in early April. “We rained out last week everywhere in North Dakota and had the trailer loaded up and ready to go. IMCA Modified winner earns $2,000 at Jackson County’s Open Wheel Challenge

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – The driver who proves up to the challenge earns $2,000 in Jackson County Speedway’s Memorial Weekend special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. The Saturday, May 23 Open Wheel Challenge at Maquoketa is a qualifying event for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational and pays a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Entry fee is $50. Other sanctioned divisions running, for all applicable points, will be the IMCA Late Models, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Saturday. Racing follows 6 p.m. hot laps. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and teenagers, $7 for kids ages 7-12 and free for six and under. Pit passes are $30. Ireland shines at Sunset’s Armed Forces Night

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (May 16) – Armed Forces Night on Saturday at Sunset Speedway Park was Rob Ireland’s time to shine. Starting mid-pack in the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature field, Ireland worked his way to the front and won his first feature of the season. He’s the fourth different winner in as many races in the division this year. Craig Cassell was yet again second while Rick Graham crossed the wire in third.

Cox wins thriller at Cottage Grove

(May 16) – Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motorsports Modified main event at Cottage Grove Speedway was a thriller and no one had a better seat for the show than Kinzer Cox. Only a couple incidents took place, making the race pretty much stoppage free. Jake Mayden set a wicked pace for most of the race and looked to have the event well in hand before Cox worked his way through the field and into the lead on lap 21. From that point, Cox pulled away from the rest of the field and made his second straight visit to victory lane. Gus Cooper finished second while Mayden ended the evening in third. Jayson Nelson turn some heads in the first half of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod race. Gene Ashley eventually caught Nelson and passed him on lap seven. Ashley would lead the remainder of the laps and put his ride in victory lane for the second time this season. Jimmy Owen was second and Nelson third.

IMCA Modified features pay $1,200 to win at Santa Maria’s Budweiser Spring Nationals

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – A pair of $1,200 to win features for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features are on programs for the May 23 and 24 Budweiser Spring Nationals at Santa Maria Raceway. Both Saturday and Sunday races are qualifying events for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Entry fee is $50. Pit passes are $40. Pit gates open at 3 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. both days. Saturday grandstand admission is $20 for adults and $18 for students ages 13-17, seniors 55 and over and military personnel with ID. On Sunday, spectator admission is $15 for adults and $13 for students, seniors and military. Kids ages 6-12 are $6 and five and under get in free both days. Bouche Memorial for IMCA Stock Cars slated Saturday at Thunderhill

(May 19) – A $1,000 payday is in story for the winner of the seventh annual Nathan Bouche Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars this Saturday, May 23 at Thunderhill Raceway. The winner’s share of the purse is courtesy of the Bull Pen Bar & Grill, located in Forestville. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Local track historian Tom Wagner will take the microphone and call the night’s action. Spectator admission for adults is $10, for seniors and students $7 and $3 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free. Pit passes are $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Tafoya reigns at Idaho Falls Dirt Wars

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (May 15) – Before Friday night, Regan Tafoya had never won an IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature in the State of Idaho, and he’d never won a feature in a torrential downpour. Now he’s done both. Tafoya led the all but the first circuit in the Dirt Wars main event at Idaho Falls Raceway shortened from 30 to 20 laps due to deteriorating visibility and track conditions. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for this September’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I always thought Idaho Falls owed me one,” said Tafoya, after taking the checkers ahead of Jake Donnelly and Joey Price. “We went up there in 2003 to race for regional points and my steering wheel fell off while I was in the lead with three laps to go. Stuart checkers fly for Shute

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 17) – Todd Shute was the IMCA Modified winner on opening night at Stuart Speedway. After taking the lead early, Shute maintained the lead through four cautions and contact with challenger Luke Wanninger. Nick Roberts was the runner-up and Justin Zeitner took third. Corey Zeitner got the IMCA Late Model victory ahead of 12th starting Scotty Welsh and John Emerson. Clint Luellen took the lead on the second lap, then stayed true to the bottom of the track and went on to score the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win. Jerry Hinton took second with Kody Havens sliding into third. Marcus Fagan gained the lead on lap 15 and won the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature ahead of Brian Blessington and Chris Pruitt. Five new winners at Hancock County

Jeremy Mills started third and finished first in the IMCA Xtreme Motorsports Modified main event. Ryan Ruter ended up second with Josh Ruby taking third. Heath Tulp captured the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature by holding off the hard-charging Derek Green, who was back in his Stock Car after about a month in his Modified rig. Chad Palmer took third. Greg Sidles started on the outside of the fourth row before weaving his way to front of the pack in the 25-car Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, outlasting Nick Meyer and Ben Schultze, who finished second and third, respectively. Gould is good as gold at Tri-State

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Oka. (May 16) – William Gould picked up his first Pocola win of the season in Saturday’s IMCA Modified main event at Tri-State Speedway. The 2013 national champion and two-time defending Razor Chassis Southern Region king bested Michael Ables and Brandon Wilson in the race to the checkers. Ken McCarty had to regain the lead several times due to cautions and restarts, but was able to take home his first IMCA SportMod win of the season over Aaron Scroggins and young Kayden Menasco.
