Antioch checkers fly for Giuliani

ANTIOCH, Calif. (July 25) – Anthony Giuliani was tops in the Brentwood Auto Parts IMCA Northern SportMod division, with Patti Ryland of Brentwood challenging him to the checkered flag Saturday at Antioch Speedway. Fred Ryland was challenging Giuliani for the lead when the two tangled in the third turn. “I don’t know what happened,” Giuliani said from victory lane. “We just tangled. I wasn’t about to give up my position like the last time we tangled.” Giuliani lost his bid for the lead when he raced alongside Fred Ryland in the last IMCA SportMod feature. This time, Ryland went to the wall, only to come back on the restart, crash and lose his hood. Ryland finished ninth. Then Giuliani had another Ryland to contend with. Patti Ryland moved up, passing Al Sotomayor and Paul Mulder to take second.

Stone wins again at Merced

(July 26) – After grabbing the lead early in the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event, Paul Stone pulled away by a wide margin to grab his second win of the season Sunday at Merced Speedway, The win came aboard the Jack Mounce-owned no. 44 car as his own car is being used for special events this season. Bob Williamson was a season-best second ahead of Alex Wilson and Kyle Wilson. Running a smooth race on the bottom groove, Mark Odgers won his first 20-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature of the season.

Cassell wins at Willamette

(July 25) – After numerous runner-up finishes and in-general bad luck in 2015 Craig Cassell finally won his first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature of the season Saturday at Willamette Speedway. Cassell denied the challenges of Kyle Yeack for the long-awaited checkers.

Boulware prevails at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (July 26) – The KISS 107 FM IMCA Sport Compacts had a first-time winner Sunday at Raceway Park as Cody Boulware led flag to flag for his first trip to victory lane. Chasing Boulware at the end were Aaron Edwardson and Cody Thompson. John Cain took the win in the MOPAR IMCA Hobby Stock feature after getting by early leader David Miller for a lead he never relinquished. Finishing third was Aaron Shearn. Rusty Montagne extended his point lead atop the Skyline Casino IMCA Northern SportMod division by taking the feature win over Karl Brewer and Darin Roepke. The Casey’s General Store IMCA Stock Car field went at it for 16 laps with Chris Mills coming out on top, followed by Josh Ruschmann and Bo Lundquist. The Total Motors Modified feature had $900 on the line for the winner in honor of long-time car owner and crew chief Marv Reuter, who passed away this week. LeMieux doubles up at Thunderhill

By Greg Aregoni STURGEON BAY, Wis. (July 26) – Billy Lemieux was a star-studded Man in Door County over the weekend. Not only did he rank in 135th place out of 160 players at the M.A.C softball tournament, he decided to double up on feature wins at Thunderhill Raceway on Sunday night. Lemieux earned wins in both the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and local street stock events. A lone caution would fly on lap 11 of the Stock Car main and allowed LeMieux to come into play. He rode around Suchocki on top and cruised over the final laps. Other winners included Tyler Hackett in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Jarred VanLaanen in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Dave Schmidt in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.

Three former race winners among first 14 drivers elected to Fast Shafts All-Star field

BOONE, Iowa (July 28) – The winners of the last three Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational events are among the first 14 drivers elected to start the 2015 race. Defending winner Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., 2013 winner Todd Shute of Des Moines and 2012 winner Jordan Grabouski of Beatrice, Neb., will take the green flag on Friday, Sept. 11 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. Elected to the All-Star field from the Western Region were Ricky Thornton Jr. and Tim Ward, both of Chandler, Ariz.; Jimmy Gustin of Marshalltown and Richie Gustin of Gilman from the North Central Region; Grabouski and Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Ark., from the Central Region; William Gould of Calera, Okla., and Keith White of Little River Academy, Texas, from the South Central Region; and Strickler and A.J. IMCA Stock Car Challenge is Aug. 2 at Dawson County Raceway

LEXINGTON, Neb. – The winner of Dawson County Raceway’s Sunday, Aug. 2 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Challenge earns at least $1,500 and possibly as much as $2,500. Sponsored by Alfred Ward & Son, Elite Sports and Wraps by Wells Design, the Challenge totes a $10,000 main event purse, with a minimum of $200 to start the 25-lap feature. The top 12 out of the heats transfer to a 10-lap pole dash. The lineup for the big show will be set by the finish of the pole dash with a kicker: The dash winner can split $1,000 ($500 each) with the runner-up and invert the 12 spots. The dash winner also has the option of starting on front row along with the runner-up and each of the third through 12th place finishers in the dash get $100. Thomas County Fair Races feature five IMCA divisions

COLBY, Kan. – A check for $1,000 and a spot on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational go to the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature winner at the Friday, July 31 Thomas County Free Fair Races. A minimum of $125 will be paid to start the Modified main event. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $750 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both for $500 to win. All applicable points, including local track points, will be awarded in all four divisions. There is no entry fee. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. at Colby. The grandstand opens at 6:30 p.m., hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30. Smith avoids late-race obstacle at I-90

(July 25) – The biggest Saturday night obstacle at I-90 Speedway for Colin Smith was a car exiting to the pits with just two laps to go in the Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. The close call came as Elijah Johnson left the track via the backstretch exit as Smith was about to lap him. Smith picked up his fourth win while Jeff Edgington crossed in second. The first-year I-90 Speedway driver has now finished in the top two in each of his last six starts.

Streaks continue at Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 25) – Two streaks continued Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Travis Van Straten raced to his 10th consecutive IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory, taking the checkers in front of Dan Michonski for the fourth straight week. Dustin Loberger was third. Marcus Yarie led the final two circuits in topping the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event ahead of Jerry Wilinski and Mitch Stankowski. The IMCA Sport Mods began with Tyler Thiex leading the pack to the line. Brandon Nygaard would grab the lead on lap one and pace the field for the first few laps until Thiex took the spot on lap four. The lead was short lived as Jordan Barkholtz took the top spot on lap six and would show the way until lap 11 when Wyatt Block caught up with Jordan Barkholtz and battled for a few laps before Block broke away and cruised to an easy Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win.
