Brown holds on for IMCA Hobby Stock checkers at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 16) – Although he’s faced his share of struggles this season, Matt Brown had a reason to smile Sunday night. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver raced to his first win of the season at Benton County Speedway. Brown took the lead at the drop of the green and fought off pressure from Leah Wroten and Bill Bonnett throughout much of the 15-lapper. He was able to open up some breathing room when lapped cars slowed the progress of his pursuers with four laps to go. It was also heavy traffic that nearly prevented Brown from making his way to victory lane a short time later. Brett Vanous slipped past both Wroten and Bonnett in traffic with three laps to go while Brown extended his advantage. Those backmarkers, however, allowed Vanous to close on Brown in the waning moments. Brown worked the top side off of turn four on the final lap in traffic to secure the win a few feet ahead of Vanous. Nathan Ballard completed the top three. Brown has [Read More]

Simmons is Virginia Sprint winner at Dixieland

By Jim Haines ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Part-time pilot Carl Simmons raced like a pro in winning Friday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature at Dixieland Speedway. The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour checkers were Simmons’ first in two years and came ahead of Tom Humphries and Jerald Harris. Simmons and Charlie Ware brought the field to green with Simmons wasting no time moving to the cushion. Ware had to hold off the field, which had lined up behind him on the fast, short oval. As the laps clicked off, Harris and Humphries made their way to the front and were working on Simmons. With two to go, Harris was running out of fuel in the corners and Humphries went by on the high side. It was too late to go after Simmons however as he flew under the checkered flag first. Feature results – 1. Carl Simmons; 2. Tom Humphries; 3. Jerald Harris; 4. Troy Severin; 5. Kevin Fletcher; 6. Anthony Linkenhoker; 7. Charlie Ware; 8. J.D. Coats; 9. Cassandra Davis; 10. $3,500 worth of redemption comes for Taylor at Sanders IMCA Mod Challenge

ADA, Minn. (Aug. 13) – Futility was the story of Jeff Taylor’s first visit to Norman County Raceway three years ago. He returned Thursday night to win the Sanders IMCA Modified Challenge special and left Ada with $3,500 worth of redemption. “I really liked being able to redeem myself. The last time I was here, I spun out twice and didn’t even get out of my ‘B’ feature,” Taylor said. “You don’t forget stuff like that.” The $18,700 feature purse lured Taylor and a lot of Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified top guns from the Upper Midwest and Canada to the midweek special. Mike Hansen, Aaron Turnbull, Dustin Strand and Curt Lund completed the top five, finishing well off the pace Taylor set up front. Taylor had started the 30-lap main event from 11th. A caution near midway wiped out Hansen’s big lead and Taylor zoomed from fourth to second following the restart, then passed Hansen on the 17th time around. “I’d been running a little bit of everywhere before staying on a higher line to [Read More]

The main bearing diameter will be 2.450 (-.030). Weight added to crank except balance metal, which must be welded in place, will not be permitted.  In an effort to identify those non-compliant engines and bring them into compliance, RaceSaver® offered a grace period of 90 days for engines that are identified as possibly containing non-conforming, but legal weight crankshafts. RaceSaver® will issue a repair authorization number to allow steel to be added to the crankshaft to bring it to 48 pounds. In these instances, the 1% tolerance will not be allowed. Schrader takes on Salina Speedway foes tonight

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. – Every once in a while, a new face will show up and immediately make an impact at the Salina Speedway on any given Friday. Tonight (Aug. 14) the new face is a familiar one to race fans around the country as former NASCAR driver and dirt enthusiast Ken Schrader will tackle the central Kansas 3/8-mile oval. It will be the first time that a NASCAR star past or present has visited the track to compete. Current Sprint Cup driver Kasey Kahne visited almost 16 years ago to the day, but was still a few years away from beginning his NASCAR career. Schrader will be piloting his own car in the 1st Class Chassis IMCA Modified division, in a battle that pits the four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup winner against the local contingent of hot shoes. Drivers in the IMCA Modified division are eligible for some special perks as well. If 30 or more cars sign in to face off against Schrader the main event for the division will pay a [Read More]

Ward outruns rain at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (Aug. 7) – A.J. Ward beat the rain and the rest of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified field Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. As the green flag waved, Kody Johnson led the pack into turn one but Matt Szecsodi had the lead when the lap was scored. Szecsodi ran in front for more than half the race but closing in on him was Ward, who took over the point on lap 12. A lap later, the rain starting falling heavier, the cars started sliding on the wet clay and the race was called with seven circuits left. Szecsodi came close to picking up his first feature win but wound up second to Ward. Chad Wernette finished third, followed by Kody Johnson and Myron DeYoung.
