Zemo scores IMCA Late Model win at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 17) – Mike Zemo Jr. needed to be both lucky and good to win at Davenport Speedway on Friday night. Zemo started the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature in the third position, but did not see the lead until a lap 10 restart. Three laps later, the yellow flew again. On the ensuing restart, Brunson Behning took over the lead. Behning looked to be in control of the race until he pulled off the track on lap 22. Riedner races to $1,099 checkers at Luxemburg’s Soukup Memorial

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (June 17) – Brandon Riedner loved his trip to Luxemburg Speedway. He loved the trip so much he went home $1,099 richer courtesy of his 30-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod John Soukup Memorial feature win. Todd Wiese came into night as the defending race winner defending the home turf. Riedner came in as the visitor trying to steal the show and did just that. Wiese led from the drop of the green flag and through a series of early cautions which allowed Riedner to join the race for the win. Riedner showed his racer on lap 20 and made what proved to be winning move on lap 23. Riedner flew past down low and into the lead. Wiese gave chase up on top and actually gained on the leader only to bobble with a couple laps remaining. Wiese finished second, Lucas Lamberies finished third after starting 16th, point leader Chris Budzban finished fourth after starting 18th and Kyle Raddant was fifth. Chadwick wins round six of Wild West Modified Shoot Out

(June 17) – Round six of the Wild West Modified Shoot Out at Sunset Speedway Park resulted in Kellen Chadwick’s third win of the Pacific Northwest Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified Tour. Chadwick outran fellow front row starter and 2012 race winner Ken Schrader for the 35-lap victory. Schrader was making his sole appearance on this year’s tour. The tight ¼-mile bullring in Banks is the smallest track of the 2016 tour and provided stellar action all night long. Forty-six cars made the journey, representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado and Missouri as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. Chadwick went right to work on the initial start, establishing a straightaway lead over Schrader in a matter of a few laps. Magnus makes most feature wins pay off for IMCA Stock, Hobby, SportMod drivers

DANIELSON, Conn. – The most frequent visitors to victory lane in four IMCA divisions will be on the receiving end of product certificate awards from Magnus Racing Products. The Danielson, Conn., manufacturer and second-year marketing partner gives certificates valued at $200, $100 and $50 to IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod drivers with the top three 40-point feature win totals. More pit parking in the works for 34th Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – It’s a good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. With another division added to the program, IMCA and track officials have been pro-active in making sure there’s enough pit area parking for the 34th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, to be held Monday through Saturday, Sept. 5-10 at Boone Speedway. In particular, the pits will be expanded to include the cell phone tower area south of the existing pit area. Divisions that run complete programs on a single day – the Southern SportMods on Monday, Sport Compacts on Tuesday and Deery Brothers Late Models on Thursday – will all have reserved space in that area, which will also accommodate overflow in all other divisions. Modifieds and Stock Cars can move in before their qualifying resumes on Friday. “We have addressed a number of issues at Super Nationals to be as accommodating as possible and pit parking has been number one,” said IMCA President Brett Root, also citing turn one seating and bleacher seating adjacent to the hot pit. Deadlines near for IMCA rookie, contingency sign-up forms

VINTON, Iowa – Two deadlines loom right around the corner that IMCA drivers need to be aware of. First is the Friday, July 1 deadline for rookie of the year applications to be submitted to the home office. Rookie drivers can also call Director of Membership and Virginia Lindsey to sign up for that program. Second is the Monday, Aug. 1 deadline to send in contingency sign-up forms and proof of decal placement car photos. $20,000 at stake in IMCA Cheesehead Triple Crown

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 17) – The richest week of IMCA Racing in Wisconsin takes Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers to 141 Speedway, Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway and Shawano Speedway for the three installments of the Cheesehead Triple Crown. A top check of $10,000 is at stake at the June 22-23 Clash at the Creek. Both the June 24 Battle at the Zone at Oshkosh and the June 25 Fury at the Fairgrounds at Shawano pay $5,000 to win. All three features are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Qualifying for the Clash starts Wednesday, June 22 at Francis Creek. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win tonight at Denison

DENISON, Iowa (June 17) – The winner of tonight’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Crawford County Speedway earns $1,000. There is no entry fee or registration fee for new cars. The runner-up earns $500 and third place pays $375, with the regular purse in place for all other finishing positions. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier will be draw/redraw and headlines a Friday IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program that also includes IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
