Last lap pass lands Linkenhoker in Virginia Sprint Series victory lane

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 18) – Shenandoah Speedway has seen many great last-lap passes for the win as the wide track lends itself to multi-groove racing. Anthony Linkenhoker put his name on the list of drivers to win this same fashion in Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event. Tony Harris and Bill Rice paced the field to green with Rice up high and leading the field with Har­ris running low. On lap 10, Harris made his move and was in the top spot as Rice with beginning to fade. Linkenhoker moved to second at halfway and the fight was really on. Harris was working his tires hard to stay up front as Linkenhoker kept sticking a nose in there three or four times as he tried high and low to get by, and with the white flag waving they were nose to tail again. Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational voting returns to familiar format 

BOONE, Iowa – A familiar format will be back in place when race fans use social media to elect 28 of the 30 starting drivers in the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Two drivers from each of the five regions for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified regions will be voted onto the starting grid in balloting that runs from Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29. Eighteen more starters will be elected at large between Monday, Aug. 1 and Friday, Aug. 5. Complet­ing the Friday, Sept. 9 All-Star field at Boone Speedway will be candidates with the high­est national point total and the most 40-point feature wins competing at the IMCA Speedway Mo­tors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The same All-Star voting format was used as recently as 2014. Winners will be notified and their names announced as soon as possible after each round of vot­ing. Winters Performance backs IMCA Modified drivers 

YORK, Pa. – Winters Performance Products has renewed the awards program benefitting Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers for a second season. The York, Pa., manufacturer again gives a complete quick change rear end to the national rookie of the year. Top five drivers in point standings for each of the five Modified regions receive $100 product certificates. All awards will be presented during the national banquet in November or mailed beginning the following week from the IMCA home office. Rob VanMil earned national rookie of the year honors last season and more than 50 drivers are already in the running for this year’s title. Wilson wins Kansas Thunder Series opener at Stockton

(June 18) ­– Randy Wilson led every lap of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature when the Kansas Thunder Series kicked off its inaugural season at Rooks County Speedway on Saturday. The lone caution in the Modified main waved on lap four when pole starter Jesse Richter drove off turn four. Wilson led the field back to green and to the checkers. Tim Watts gave chase the entire distance but settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Mike Petersilie. Casey Woken won the caution-free IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Hometown driver Chad Sterling took the lead at the start and looked to make his way to the winner’s circle but Woken took to the high side of the track and made up a lot of ground. Davis drives to first Boone Modified checkers 

BOONE, Iowa (June 18) ­– Three drivers walked away with back-to-back wins and a new face visited victory lane Saturday at Boone Speedway. Scott Davis came away with his first win at Boone in the 20-lap Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modi­fied feature. Davis led all 20 laps on his way to that victory.  Josh Truman finished second, third place went to 11th place starter and point leader Mike VanGenderen, fourth was Matthew Meinecke and Cole Ferguson rounded out the top five. Two IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars quickly shot to the front. Jay Schmidt started eighth and had the lead at lap five, with 11th place starter Donavon Smith attached to his rear bumper.  Schmidt couldn’t shake Smith, who finally snuck underneath him to take over as captain of the ship on lap 10. Nicklas ends Stanton’s win streak at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 17) – Gene Nicklas won Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, ending Eric Stanton’s perfect season at Marshalltown Speedway. Nicklas took command from David Simpson at lap four, and led all the remaining laps to the finish. His comfortable lead vanished when a caution came out on lap 13 for debris and bunched the field. On the restart, Stanton passed two cars, going from fourth to second and was looking for another miraculous win to keep his streak alive but it wasn’t to be, and he had to settle for second. This ended his perfect season at seven wins in a row. Leah Wroten, Gary Pfantz, and Simpson completed the top five. Goedert tops Late Models at Dubuque 

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 19) –The headliner of the Sunday night Fathers’ Day show at Dubuque Speedway was the 25-lap Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature. Luke Goedert advanced from a second row start to take the lead early. While Goedert worked low, Dan Shelliam was riding the high side to pull even. Shelliam took over the point and led for five laps before getting too high in turn two scraping the wall. Goedert went on to lead the rest of the feature for the win while Shelliam recovered to finish se­cond. Bobby Hansen crossed under the checkers in third. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modifieds delighted the fans with plenty of wheel to wheel rac­ing in their 20-lap feature. Berry holds off Baumann at Billings

By Dru Brown BILLINGS, Mont. (June 18) – Hank Berry started fast and finished smooth as silk in winning Satur­day’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Billings Motorsports Park. Right from the drop of the green flag, Berry seized the top spot and ran away.  Deep in the pack Kenny Baumann was man handling his car through traffic but it appeared like he was running out of laps to track down Berry. Baumann made his way all the way to second and seemed to be the only driver to hang with Berry. Just before the frontrunners took the white flag the yellow waved and a smile had to have crept across Baumann’s face because he knew this was the shot he needed. Ward captures Greased Pig 6.0 for seventh win at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (June 17) – Tri-City Speedway’s Greased Pig 6.0 ended with A.J. Ward in victory lane 7.0. Ward won for the seventh time in as many Auburn starts this season Friday night, collecting $1,066 following the Lane Automotive/Optima Batteries IMCA Modified Challenge presented by Allstar Performance 38-lapper. A season-high 32 Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified drivers were on hand. Brody Bowser and Tanner Pray brought the main event field of 20 to the green flag of the extended lap feature. The two swapped the lead numerous times during the opening laps before Craig Vance took his turn as the leader. On lap five, Austin Wonch wrestled the lead away and tried to run away from the pack. Chadwick clinches Wild West Shoot Out with fourth IMCA Modified win of tour

By Ben Deatherage ELMA, Washington (June 18) – Kellen Chadwick clinched thechampionship of the Wild West Modi­fied Shoot Out with his fourth feature win of the six-race Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified tour Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway. Forty cars from Oregon, Washington, California, Montana, North Dakota, and Colorado made the journey as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. Danny Lauer took the lead from Collen Winebarger on lap two.  From there he would be the car to beat as he was in search of his first career Wild West Shoot Out victory. Unfortunately, Lauer broke on lap 25. The driver everyone had been chasing all week long inherited the top spot. Kellen Chadwick blazed the trail the remainder of the distance and survive to pull off an incredible fourth win in the tour’s six main event starts.
