Beerhill Gang adds to PASS post-season point fund

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (June 9) – One of the most iconic fan groups in racing has stepped up to support the Pennsylvania Sprint Series. PASS was looking to land a sponsor for the current race season and Slothower, Miller and several other teams got involved to quickly organize the event. The Slothower/Hanson team pitched in with numerous auction and raffle items; Brandt Cook and Zach Newlin also pitched in with auction items and there were numerous other contributions by teams fans and sponsors. A check for $1,600 will be sent to IMCA which will be paid 100 percent back to the PASS points fund. This will ensure that 30 positions will be paid at least $100. Sanction fees from tracks and any other sponsor money goes to the top 15. “We’re extremely grateful to Ryan, Matt and everyone that put [Read More]

Late heroics pay off for Irvine in Kossuth County Hawkeye Dirt Tour

ALGONA, Iowa (June 9) – He didn’t lead the most laps, just the most important ones. Brian Irvine caught up with race-long leader Corey Dripps in lapped traffic, took away the front spot with a deft move to the inside on the 29th of 30 circuits and drove to the $1,000 checkers in Thursday’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour main event at Kossuth County Speedway. Traffic remained a factor as the evening’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headline event ran green to checkered. “Once I got to Corey, I saw a line of lapped cars ahead of him and knew I’d have to make an angle. I got my nose underneath him, which was about the only thing I could do in that situation,” Irvine said. “The lapped cars helped, obviously. I’ve lost races leading late like that, I’d rather be second with two laps to go than leading in that situation.” Dripps had drawn the pole start and was chased across the stripe by Jeremy Mills on each of the first two laps. Irvine took over second [Read More]

Wood, Lynch, Todd Reitzler and Donnie Pearson finished second through fifth, respectively Colt Mather led to the checkers after taking the lead 10 laps into the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified headliner. Deery Bros Late Model Summer Series

Guss dominates Deery feature at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 7) – It’s been a few years since the last time he won an IMCA Late Model series race there, but Ray Guss Jr. put on a Deery Brothers Summer Series clinic Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway. Guss started outside Joel Callahan on the front row, took the lead on the second circuit and ran the rest of the 50-lapper without serious challenge. The $2,000 victory was the series career 31st for Guss, also the Deery winner at Marshalltown in 1989 and 2009. His latest checkers came ahead of Tyler Droste, Ryan Dolan, Callahan and Cayden Carter. “We were pretty decent in the heat race. We only made a few adjustments to make the car turn better,” said Guss. “Once we did that, it worked. We hit on something and hopefully it works that way again the next time.” Guss had already checked out when back-to-back yellows flew on lap 19 and he was quick to pull away from the pack when the race returned to green. Four lapped cars were running between [Read More]

Rust makes momentum work for Marshalltown Hawkeye Dirt Tour win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 7) – After he went back to what he knew, Joel Rust went back to victory lane following a second straight Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature. Rust became a rare repeat winner in the series for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, following up his Memorial Day victory at Benton County Speedway with the $1,000 checkers Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway. He became just the second driver in the series’ 63-race history to win back-to-back features and accomplished the feat at his home track by less than a car length over Brian Irvine. “We had run ninth in the weekly show Friday at Marshalltown. It wasn’t what we wanted but we tried some things in preparation for Tuesday,” explained Rust, who took Saturday and Sunday off. “Sometimes you do that and you find something. We didn’t.” Irvine started inside Rust on the second row and led the first eight laps. Rust was scored first the last 22 times around the track but there was no giving up from Irvine, who pulled ahead on the [Read More]

Mayden captures Cottage Grove checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 4) – Jake Mayden was the fourth and final leader in Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Cottage Grove Speedway. Ryan Baker got off to a great start and remained in the lead until lap nine after a restart.  The driver overtaking Baker was Curtis Towns, who stayed at the point until getting collected in a wreck while dealing with lapped traffic on the 14th circuit. This gave the lead to Eric Ashley, who paced the field until Mayden made the move to get around him. Mayden then held off Ashley for his first win of the season. Kinzer Cox, dash winner Steven Sturdevant and Tyler Smith rounded out the top five. Jorddon Braaten notched his fourth straight Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Runner-up was Daniel Ray.
