By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 24) – Collen Winebarger was fastest on the second Fast Friday of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway. Nearly 30 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds were checked in and Brian Thompson showed the way early. Thompson blazed the trail in the first handful of laps but was never able to get out to a large lead due to several cautions. Shortly after a sixth lap restart Thompson was overtaken by Winebarger, who maintained the top position for much of the race despite ensuing cautions. Winebarger was briefly out of the lead on lap 23 only for the yellow to come back out before the lap was complete. Winebarger stayed in front after the final restart and held on to win his second race at Cottage Grove in 2016. Mark Wauge was a close second, followed by Curtis Towns, Braedon Hand and Eric Ashley. Wauge set fast time for the night and also won the trophy dash.

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 25) – Jenae Gustin scored her first career IMCA Modified feature win Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway while Travis Smock netted a $1,000 IMCA Late Model payday on Peoples Company Night. Brandon Maitland moved into the lead on lap two of the Performance Bodies Modified “A” main. The young gun protected the bottom once he assumed the lead. The rookie Gustin worked her way into second completing lap number five. After running a handful of laps trying to find a way underneath Maitland, she moved to the high line. Gustin worked into the lead by the halfway point, and she was able to drive off to her first ever IMCA Modified win. Maitland settled for second. His brother Ryan finished third. Ronn Lau­ritzen came from 17th starting to fourth, followed by J.D. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 24) – Jacob Murray captured his third win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds while Donavon Smith picked up another victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars Friday at Marshalltoewn Speedway. Joey Schaefer won for the first time in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division and Eric Stanton got back on track, winning the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Murray started ninth in the Modified feature. He put his no. 48J ride to the topside and reeled in the front running cars quickly.  When a yellow flew at lap four, Murray was already sitting in third place behind Jake Strayer and leader Jenae Gustin. Thursday night was no exception as Kevin Opheim and Derek Green went door-to-door and back-and-forth before Opheim edged out Green for his first local win of the season. Green captured hard charger honors while Calvin Lange, Shane Curry and Kellie Schmit com­pleted the top five. Josh Ruby was another first time winner in Algona, in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event, while Shane Swanson collected his first local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod tro­phy of the season. Cody Nielsen has been dominant in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and captured his third fea­ture win of the summer at Kossuth County, coming from outside row four. Kaytee DeVries won the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature, earning her second feature victory of the sea­son at Algona.
