Holladay scores biggest win of career

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 16) – Saturday’s action at the West Liberty Raceway included a 40-lap main event for the iWireless IMCA Late Models for the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge. The night belonged to Muscatine’s Chad Holladay as Holladay charged in to the race lead at the green flag and went on to lead all 40 laps en route to a very impressive win which saw him lap up to the seventh place finisher. The 40 laps went caution-free as Holladay built a half-lap lead over second place finisher Scott Fitzpatrick. Holladay stated in victory lane, “ This Gheer’d up car was totally awesome and this is the biggest win of my racing career.” Justin Kay nipped Joel Callahan at the finish line for third. Weisnicht wins IMCA Modified main at Shawano 

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (July 16) – Mark Weisnicht scored his first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Shawn Frelich jumped into the lead on the opening lap and was immediately pressured by Jim Zdroik. Weisnicht raced his way past Zdroik for the second position on lap seven.  Zdroik, Jerry Wilinski, and Lance Arneson completed the top five on ten. As Wilinski’s machine drifted up the track he made contact with the Frelich. Frelich’s car got into the wall, ending his night. Wilinski was charged with the caution and sent to the rear of the field. Weisnicht, who had been running third, inherited the lead and was able to hold off Zdroik and Arneson for the victory. Joe White had the car to beat early on in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. White, who had been pressured by B.J. Parker wins first IMCA Stock Car feature at 141

(July 16) – Christmas in July took place at 141 Speedway on Saturday night with over 110 bikes given away to kids.  Chase Parker received his own present and it was a brand new trophy courtesy of his first career IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win. Chris Malfroid looked locked and loaded in the beginning of the main event. Malfroid cruised around in front of the pack with Parker his only threat. Parker tailed Malfroid and found his line coming out of turn four on lap nine. Parker took the lead and never looked back. The race was for second from then on. Shawn Wag­ner ran toward the front using the topside of the speedway after starting 12th. Wagner knocked off a car a lap on his mid-race run. Eagle fans applaud Snyder’s first win 

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 16) – Fans applauded Stu Snyder’s career first IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car victory during the Fan Appreciation Night Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Snyder’s pass to the front came with four laps to go when he overtook Joey Danley. “It was fun, finally getting my first RaceSaver win ever at a great old-school track, flat-out around the top with a good bottom and slick through the middle,” he said. Danley, Toby Chapman and Shayle Bade rounded out the top four. Dustin Andersen also gained the lead and eventual win with four circuits left in the Kaplan University IMCA Modified headliner. Mark Leiting topped the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod main and Roy Armstrong collected the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock checkers from the 11th starting spot. Tenth starting Scott Spellmeier won the Mountain Dew Kick Start IMCA Sport Compact main event.

Schneider delivers fourth win of season at Oshkosh 

OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 15) – Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway presented the Christmas in July event sponsored by Hobbytown USA Friday night.  Santa attended the program and had special presents for the kids while the drivers earned their rewards on the track. Nolte’s Auto Repair and Towing IMCA Northern SportMod point leader Tom Schneider started 10th on the grid and the green flag saw him take to the far outside line and the route took him to the lead on the opening lap. A couple cautions kept Tim Sheppard, Scott Besaw, Bernie Miller, Dennis Schultz and Jason Ebert tight behind.  After a final restart on lap eight, Schneider opened a lead and despite Sheppard making a couple runs at him, was able to drive off with his fourth feature win of the season. Sheppard and Besaw were spaced out behind. Callahan scores big win in Tri-Track Challenge

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (July 15) – Friday night’s action at the Farley Speedway included the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge featuring the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The 50-lap feature started off with Joel Callahan and Ryan Dolan swapping the lead four times on the first two laps with exciting slide jobs making for thrilling racing action. Callahan settled into the point for the next several laps but Dolan remained within a car length until the race’s first caution flew on lap 28 of the 50 lap main. Ray Guss Jr. pulled into contention on the restart and battled Callahan for the remainder of the feature with Guss leading several laps before Callahan was able to take control following a lap 38 restart. Guss ran second ahead of Dolan and Jeremiah Hurst. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modified feature came with all types of racing action includ­ing a lap eight incident that sent the two race frontrunners, Matt Gansen and Mark Schulte, spin­ning in turn two. Hanselman, Hanson earn first Kossuth County wins 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 14) – The always-entertaining IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division produced a first time winner at Kossuth County Speedway this summer as home-towner Dan Hanselman took full advantage of his outside pole position to earn his first feature victory of the season Thursday night. Kevin Opheim was the runner-up, holding off a hard charging Derek Green. Joey Penning was fourth and Bruce Wickman rounded out the top five finishers. Last month, Matthew Hanson rolled his car in front of the grandstand in a scary accident but Thursday night saw Hanson capture his first local win of the year at the track in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Hanson started on the inside of the third row. Doug Cook was second with Shane Swanson placing third. Ben Schultze was fourth and Nick Meyer took fifth. Kay wins again at Davenport 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 15) – Justin Kay remained unbeaten in Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model features at Davenport Speedway this season. Kay claimed his third point victory in as many races this year on Friday night. Kay started tenth and led the final ten laps en route to the win. Spencer Diercks led the first four laps from the pole with Joe Zrostlik taking over on lap five. Zrostlik continued to lead until lap 16, when he pulled off the track. Kay led the rest of the way to the checkers. Diercks held on for second with Rob Toland taking third. Chuck Hanna and Andy Nezworski completed the top five. Matt Werner made it two in a row in the Eriksen’s IMCA Modified feature. Werner took the lead from Bob Dominacki on lap eight and just barely held off a charging Bryce Garnhart for the win. The victory was Werner’s third of the season. Thornton holds off Shryock for $10,001 IMCA Legendary payday

MANDAN, N.D. (July 15) – An Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver well on his way to becoming a dirt track legend beat a driver who’s already achieved that status to the $10,001 checkers Friday night at Dacotah Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr. led the last 38 of 50 laps, finishing no more than a car length ahead of Kelly Shryock.
