Shebester holds on for first career Sprint Series of Oklahoma victory

(July 22) – Steven Shebester took the lead at the start, then held off a fast-closing Joe Wood Jr. at the end to win the Sprint Series of Oklahoma feature Saturday at Elk City Speedway. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series victory was his career first. Shebester started on the front row for the 25-lap feature and took the lead as the green flag fell. The Mustang, Okla., driver had his hands full with defending national and series champion Andy Shouse as the frontrunners approached traffic near midway. Shebester handled lapped traffic while Shouse had his hands full with Wood. Wood, who took over the runner-up position and set his sights on the leader. Gunning for his second feature victory in a row and third career, Wood got a run underneath the leader coming out of turn four on the last lap. Beatrice Speedway hosts Gage County Fair special

BEATRICE, Neb. (July 25) – Sunday night racing at Beatrice Speedway sports a $1,000 to win IMCA Modified main event at the July 30 Gage County Fair special. The 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier is complemented by IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, all running for $500 to win, and Mach-1 Sport Compacts vying for a $250 top check. There is no entry fee for the draw/redraw show. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State, but no local track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-11 and free for five and under. Davis, Stief split MASS features at Bridgeport

By Erika Palmai Wagner BRIDGEPORT, N.J. (July 21) – The Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series had a first-time feature winner and its first repeat victor of the season Friday at Bridgeport Speedway. Bryant Davis scored his first career IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win in make-up feature from June 17 while Rick Stief, who finished second to Davis in that race, visited victory lane for the second time this season in the nightcap. Davis was rightfully thrilled while celebrating with his father Bruce in victory lane, saying “We were so frustrated with this car before this feature, my dad almost stuck a ‘for sale’ sign on her with a $500 price tag on it. This couldn’t have come at a better time for us. I’m just so happy that we finally got this win.” Davis led the entire race, holding off Stief following multiple cautions. Berg cools off Dacotah Sport Compact foes

MANDAN, N.D. (July 21) – Jason Berg iced his Mach-1 Sport Compact competition for the seventh time this season on a warm Friday night at Dacotah Speedway. Ken Sandberg started on the pole but it was Berg who quickly powered into the lead when the green flag waved. Chase Schlafmann was not far behind the leader but Nic West saw his night end with a rollover. On the restart with three laps to go, Schlafmann drove in low under Berg in corners one and two but Berg held on and drove away to victory. Schlafmann settled for second ahead of Stan Thompson.

Heavyweights tussle at Tri-City

By Roger Williams AUBURN, Mich. (July 21) – Defending track champion A.J. Ward prevailed when the IMCA Modified heavyweights in Michigan squared off Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Pole starter Nick Stormzand led most of the first half of the 20-lapper, dueling with Myron DeYoung before the challenger was forced pitside with mechanical issues. This allowed Ward to inherit the lead in the closing laps where he would continue untouched to the checkers. Stormzand held on for second and Gavin Hunyady was third.

Meyer wins third straight at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 20) – After not finding the winner’s circle for a year and a half, Josh Meyer made it three straight Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature wins at Kossuth County Speedway Thursday night. Jeramie Faber grabbed the lead early on but Meyer wrestled the front spot away on lap seven and stayed there to the checkers. Brandon Nielsen raced from 10th starting to first at the finish of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Ben Kraus led the distance of the IMCA Modified main event and Kevin Opheim was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner. One week after the track hosted the “Bumblebee Nationals,” Colin Rodgers posted his first local Mach-1 Sport Compact victory of the season.

131 IMCA Modified drivers on ballot for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational

BOONE, Iowa (July 22) – One hundred and thirty-one IMCA Modified drivers are on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Twenty-eight of the 30 starters in the Sept. 8 race at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway will be elected in a pair of polling sessions. Three drivers from each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds will be elected during polling from July 24-27; 13 more will be elected from an at-large pool between July 31 and Aug. 3. All voting will be conducted through the IMCA Facebook page. Completing the starting grid for the 30-lapper will be All-Star candidates with the top national point total and the most 40-point feature wins as of Aug. 31 competing at Super Nationals. IMCA Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour tops opening night card at Dubuque County Fair

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Opening night of the Dubuque County Fair brings the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds to town for a Tuesday, July 25 event. The Open Wheel Race Day show at Dubuque Speedway pays $1,200 to win and a minimum $150 to start. The feature is also a qualifier for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. National championship awards highlight Wilwood IMCA program again in 2017

CAMARILLO, Calif. (July 22) – Wilwood Engineering adds generously to contingency award programs for five IMCA divisions this season.
