Phillips shows the way to $10,000 World Nationals checkers

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 16) – Veteran Terry Phillips made his way to Marshalltown Speedway from the Show Me State and showed his IMCA Modified expertise on the track, topping Saturday’s $10,000 to win World Nationals main event. Richie Gustin of Gilman gave Phillips a run for the big money when he took the lead on lap 21, only to have Phillips come right back and regain it on the next lap. From there on, Phillips put distance between himself and Gustin, and took the 50-lapper by a comfortable margin. Along with the big payday, the checkers put Phillips on the ballot for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Gustin had to be content with the runner-up spot. Cayden Carter of Oskaloosa started ninth and finished third, fourth was Chris Abelson of Sioux City and Joel Rust of Grundy Center rounded out the top five. The Ironmen of Dodge City Raceway Park

With Saturday’s fifth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event set to bring the curtains down on 2017 DCRP title chases, this year is no exception with 208 drivers having already competed in at least one round of racing action. Getting a racecar to the track isn’t always an easy task. Any number of factors can force any racer to miss a night at the track. Championship Night is Saturday at Canyon

By Rowdy Briggs PEORIA, Ariz. – It has been a long season at Canyon Speedway Park but it all comes down to Championship Night Saturday in the four IMCA divisions that compete regularly at the Arizona speedplant. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMods and the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will be crowning their champions. Admission is $15 for adults. Seniors 60 and over and military are $12 and children 11 and under are free. All-access pit passes can be purchased for $35 for adults while kids ages 7-11 are $20 and 6 years and under are free. All minors under the age of 18 must have a minor release Form filled out and notarized prior to entry into the pits. The form can be found on the track’s www.canyonspeedwaypark.com website.

Stief takes MASS point lead to Grandview

By Erika Palmai Wagner BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. – Rick Stief inches closer to his first career Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series championship with two races remaining on the 2017 schedule. Stief, a two-time feature winner this season, is the current point leader as MASS heads to Grandview Speedway this Friday, Sept. 15. URSS Rebels headed to Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – After two weeks off for drivers to compete in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals and a weekend to regroup, the Myers Engine United Rebel Sprint Series will return to Dodge City Raceway Park for the fifth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial this Saturday, Sept. 16. Sellers scores at Sprint Series of Oklahoma’s Pat Suchy Memorial

(Sept. 8) – Robert Sellers took advantage of race-long leader Loyd Clevenger’s misfortune to capture the $1,250 Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory at Red Dirt Raceway’s Pat Suchy Memorial. Clevenger had motored into the lead following an early restart and pulled away again following a mid-race yellow before encountering traffic on lap 16. With 10 laps to go, Clevenger’s lead had shrunk to three car lengths. The complexion of the race changed when Clevenger and the lapped car of Cody Jarvis got together entering turn three with Clevenger taking a tumble. Tristan Oakes was also involved but unlike Clevenger was able to return. Sellers found himself in the lead for the ensuing restart. He held off a fast closing Andy Shouse to take earn the victory. Albert Auto September Spectacular Sunday at Benton County

VINTON, Iowa – Top prize for IMCA Modifieds at Benton County Speedway’s Sunday, Sept. 17 Albert Auto Service September Spectacular is $1,000. The headline event is a qualifier for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods both race for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300 to win. Completing the sanctioned portion of the program are Mach-1 Sport Compacts. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly racing National, regional and All-Star Performance State points will be given at the draw-redraw show. All heat race winners get $25 from Albert Auto, which also provides three gift cards for the grandstand drawing. Drawing prizes will also be given to young fans who get to the track early enough to get a numbered checkered flag. Pit gates at Vinton open at 4 p.m. and racing follows 5:30 p.m. hot laps. 25th annual Tiny Lund Memorial this weekend at Shelby County Speedway

HARLAN, Iowa – Shelby County Speedway’s 25th annual Tiny Lund Memorial features five IMCA sanctioned divisions on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16 programs. Top checks on opening night are $700 for the IMCA Modifieds, $400 for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, $350 for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and $150 for Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Saturday features pay $1,000 to win for the Modifieds, $850 for the Stocks, $750 for the SportMods, $500 for the Hobbies and $250 for the Sport Compacts. Park Jeff hosts Sept. 15, 16 Iron Cup

JEFFERSON, S.D. – The fourth annual Iron Cup presented by J&J Fitting will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16 at Park Jefferson Speedway. On Thursday, the track will host a test and tune session that incorporates makeup features in the Schaeffer Oil IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds, J&J Fitting IMCA Stock Cars and the SignMasters IMCA Modified divisions. These features will award Allstar Performance State, regional and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National points. The races will be made up from the Aug. 19 event that was rained out.
