23 IMCA Modified drivers added to Fast Shafts All-Star ballot

VINTON, Iowa – Another 23 IMCA Modified drivers have put their names on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Red River Modified Tour victories put Chris Bragg, Cory Davis and Chase Allen on the ballot. Duane Cleveland was an All Star Modified Tour winner and Kody Scholpp triumphed on the Gunslinger Tour. Braxton Yeager and Beau Speicher were winners of Memorial Weekend features at Sweetwater Speedway. Checkers flew at Legit Speedway Park’s Scrappin’ 40 for Shawn Walsh and John Hansen paced I-76 Speedway’s Dave Garmann Tribute. Wild West Challenge checkers flew for Brandon Clough at Lincoln County Raceway’s Wild West Challenge. Bubak best in Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Nationals opener

(June 13) – The opening leg of the third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals picked up right where the 2018 edition left off, with a pair of Jakes slugging it out for the Thursday night feature win atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval. This time, Jake Bubak turned the tables on defending race winner Jake Martens, battling into the lead on the 17th round and racing on to the stripe ahead of Jason Martin and Martens. “I feel like we got one taken away from us last year. We’re here to win the whole thing this time,” Bubak commented after putting himself atop the point charts and in prime position to secure a lock-in position to Saturday’s $3,000-to-win finale. Thornton is dynamic in Dirt Duel win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 12) – Another big-money event ended with Ricky Thornton Jr. in victory lane, this time in an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. The multi-division star raced from eighth starting to win the 50-lap headline event at Stuart Speedway’s Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel presented by Sniper Speed & Midstate Machine Wednesday night. The checkers were good for $3,000 and came ahead of Abe Huls and Johnny Spaw. Huls had taken the early lead over Elijah Zevenbergen and Spaw before the yellow flew on lap three. Huls led the next circuit with Zevenbergen taking over on lap five. Zevenbergen led one more lap until he went into a wild spin in turn two to bring out the second and what proved to be final yellow of the night. Nielsen thunders to rich Hobby checkers at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 13) – Cody Nielsen made like lightning in winning Thursday’s Thunderdome IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Shootout at Kossuth County Speedway. The victory paid $1,000 and came ahead of defending race winner Dylan Nelson. Josh Sidles and Jamie Weishaar brought the feature field to the flag stand as Sidles took the initial lead. Cautions came out on laps two and eight to bunch the field back up; Nielsen grabbed the lead at halfway and went on to his second feature win of the season at Algona. Keeran Sampson, national points leader Leah Wroten and Josh Sidles completed the top five. Nielsen also scored hard charger honors after starting 11th. New promoters see Sunday car counts on upswing at The New Raceway Park

JEFFERSON, S.D. – An offer he couldn’t say no to got Sioux City businessman Steve Kiraly back into motorsports. The former driver and industry veteran Dennis Moore now co-promote The New Raceway Park in Jefferson S.D. With IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on regular weekly programs, they’ve seen car counts go up at every Sunday show since opening night on May 26. “It was excellent that we got the IMCA sanction,” said Kiraly. “We’re bringing the fun back to racing at this track. Super Nationals online registration underway

BOONE, Iowa – Online registration for the biggest and best event in all of dirt track racing is underway. Drivers in all divisions except the Late Models planning to compete at the Sept. 2-7 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s must pre-register online. The form for pre-registration can be found at www.imca.com and www.raceboone.com under the Super Nationals menu. Deery Series doubleheader next at Maquoketa, Independence

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of familiar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start. Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well.
