Sweet victory for Berghahn at Bumblebee Nationals

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 12) – Denny Berghahn Jr. made a long trip from Nebraska $1,000 better as he topped a 19-car field to win the second annual Bumblebee Nationals at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, night. National point leader Bubba Brown and Stephanie Coopman led the field to green for the 25-lap feature with Berghahn, who started on the outside of the second row, taking the lead immediately. From that point, all that slowed Berghahn in the drive for the best payday of his career were a quintet of cautins. Hard charger Jerry Coopman advanced nine spots to end in second with Jake Benischek, Stephanie Coopman and Jarad Gross rounding out the to five. Tad Reutzel and Bryce Sommerfield picked up their third local feature wins of the season in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock divisions, respectively, with Derek Green taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature for the second straight week and Doug Cook topping the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for the first time.

Thornton wins Dakota Tour thriller at Dickinson, Zevenbergen cruises to another Stock Car win

By Mike Spieker DICKINSON, N.D. (July 11) – Winning streaks by both inclement weather and Hunter Marriott came to an end Wednesday night at Southwest Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr. picked up the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour win at Dickinson, ending both the streak of two straight wins by two-time defending champion Marriott and then back-to-back rainouts. R.C. Whitwell and Shawn Strand made up the front row for the 30-lap main event. Whitwell grabbed the lead before Thornton got a run to go from fourth to second on lap two, getting by both Strand and Ethan Dotson. The top three distanced themselves from the rest of the field at the halfway point. With 14 to go, Whitwell found himself in lapped traffic and had to move away from the preferred bottom groove, which allowed Thornton to reel him in. IMCA Modifieds chase $1,000 checks in July 16, 17 debut at Brown County Speedway

ABERDEEN, S.D. – IMCA Modifieds make their Brown County Speedway debut next Monday and Tuesday, July 16 and 17, in $1,000 to win main events on the 1/3-mile clay oval. Both features are 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region, South Dakota State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps both days. Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Cars are also on the card Monday, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Tuesday. There is no entry fee for the Modifieds. Pit passes are $25 on Monday and $40 on Tuesday. Dacotah Speedway hosts $10,003 to win Legendary special for IMCA Modifieds

MANDAN, N.D. – Dacotah Speedway is excited to announce the $10,003 to win IMCA Modified Legendary 50 presented by Corral Sales scheduled for Friday, July 13. Many of the best drivers from across the United States and Canada will compete for the largest cash prize for an IMCA Modified race in North Dakota. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis and North Dakota State points, but no track points will be awarded. Entry fee is now $150. Wheatshocker Nationals on Tap for URSS

HAYS, Kan. – After last week’s three races in six days, the United Rebel Sprint Series will next head this Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15 to the 10th running of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., for their opening weekend of the Ellis County Fair. Oklahoma’s Andy Shouse took home top honors in last years event, collecting the $2000 winner’s share and also taking home the custom Pit Boss Pellet Grille furnished by Lance Pittmann of S&W Supply/Federated Auto Parts of Hays for being the top point earner of the two-day event. This year’s event will once again pay $2,000 to the winner with $200 to start in Saturday’s championship feature. Championship chase action heats up at Dodge City Raceway Park

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Just as the summer temperatures continue to intensify, so do the championship points battles at Dodge City Raceway Park. And it will continue on Saturday night, July 14 with another round of action atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas featuring the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Saturday’s racing action will go green at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults while children 11 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30. The DCRP Sprint Cars have this weekend off and will return to action on the July 27 Driver Appreciation Night.

Deery Brothers Summer Series returns to CJ Speedway for July 18 show

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – An absence of more than 22 race seasons comes to an end next Wednesday, with the return of the Deery Brothers Summer Series to CJ Speedway. Touring IMCA Late Models last traveled to Columbus Junction for an April 12, 1996 show won by Rick Wendling of Hazleton. They’ll vie for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start when they’re back in town on July 18. “This has been one of the events that we’ve really been looking forward to since the schedule for the 32nd annual series was announced,” noted Tour Director Kevin Yoder. “A lot of our series drivers have never raced at CJ before, or have never raced there in a Late Model, and I know they’re looking forward to next week.” Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5:30 p.m. on race day. Blurton wires URSS field at Dawson County

LEXINGTON, Neb. (July 8) – Zach Blurton took the lead at the start and never looked back to claim his second United Rebel Sprint Series victory of the season Sunday at Dawson County Raceway. Tim Fricke and Brian Herbert started on the front row for the 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Ca feature but it was the third-starting Blurton who took the lead as the green flag fell. Tyler Drueke passed Herbert for the runner-up position on lap two but could only chase Blurton the rest of the way as the defending tour champion went on to become the first repeat series feature winner on the season. Eleventh starting Shon Pointer worked his way up to a third-place finish while Herbert and 10-starting Stu Snyder rounded out the top five. Fettinger returns to victory lane at Southern Oregon Speedway

By Don Martin II WHITE CITY, Ore. (July 7) – After taking the lead from Mark Wauge on lap 10, Zach Fettinger went on to win the 20-lap IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. He won by a straightaway advantage at the checkered flag as Albert Gill settled for second. The feature had to be restarted after a lap one caution and that was the only yellow flag of the race. Wauge raced into the lead at the start, followed by Gill and Fettinger. Fettinger slipped past Gill for second on lap three, and the lead three cars ran in close formation at the front of the pack. A low move in turn two of the 10th lap put Fettinger into the lead and he was soon lapping slower cars.
