IMCA amends G-60 tire rule effective June 23

VINTON, Iowa – Due to nation-wide supply shortages, officials at the International Motor Contest Association have announced they will amend existing tire rules in all divisions mandating use of the IMCA stamped Hoosier G-60 tire. Effective Wednesday, June 23, drivers in those divisions will be allowed to groove Hoosier G-60 tires for use at all IMCA sanctioned events. “Product shortages across the racing industry are widespread,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “This situation is well outside of IMCA’s control. We want to provide our racers every opportunity to do what they feel is necessary to reduce consumption or extend the life of their tires. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.” At this time, the tire amendment does not apply to any division where use of the stamped G-60 is not required. Root also noted that any decision on tire rules for the Sprint Cars would be made at the discretion of RaceSaver’s Roger Hadan.

Hansen, Tafoya rock Sweetwater foes for IMCA Modified Wild West Tour wins

ROCK SPRINGS, Wy. (June 18-19) – Chase Hansen found the secret to a good draw and Regan Tafoya finally found his way to victory lane when the IMCA Pitt Stop Motorsports Wild West Tour made its annual visit to Sweetwater Speedway. Hansen simply opted to take the last pill left and won Friday’s IMCA Modified feature after being rewarded with the pole start. Tafoya, whose recent Rock Springs luck has been sketchy at best, got the lead back following a restart with six laps to go in winning the Saturday feature. Both wins paid $1,200 and both drivers were already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidates. The tour ironman, Hansen’s fifth career checkers came in his 120th consecutive start. Whitman is a hit at 141’s IMCA Clash at the Creek

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 17) – The IMCA Modified driver they call ‘The Hitman’ was a big hit with his 141 Speedway fans Thursday night. Johnny Whitman took the lead following a lap 10 restart and led Mike Mullen around the oval at Francis Creek the last 40 green flag, lightning fast times around the track in taking the $10,000 Clash at the Creek win. “I’ve been wanting to do this for 13 years,” he said from victory lane. “It’s crazy, the amount of competition that’s here. I didn’t know if my car was good enough to keep up with them but we got it done.” Pole starter Josh Long was a distant third as home state drivers ran 1-2-3. Sachau, Murty, Purdy are dynamic at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 16) – Jake Sachau, Dallon Murty and Jeremy Purdy were all dynamic on night two of the Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel at Stuart Speedway. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods were the first Dirt Duel feature on the track with Brayton Carter and Dylan VanWyk leading the field to green. VanWyk led early until Carter slid by to take the lead a third of the way through the 35-lap event. Carter held it through a several yellows before Sachau used a restart to take the lead on lap 25. Carter gave it his all but Sachau was too strong as he went on to the $2,500 win. Carter finished second with Izac Mallicoat third, Cam Reimers fourth and VanWyk fifth. Chanse Hollatz and Abe Huls led the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars to the green flag for their 40-lap feature, next with Hollatz leading the first 11 laps. How sweet it is! IMCA Wild West Tour returns to Rock Springs for weekend shows

ROCK SPRINGS, Wy. – Frequent destination Sweetwater Speedway is next on the schedule for IMCA’s Pitt Stop Motorsports Wild West Tour. IMCA Modifieds race for a minimum of $1,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both for at least $750 and also based on car count Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19. Both Modified features are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events and Stock Car feature winners become eligible to qualify for the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational. The tour has traveled to 16 different tracks in its 119-race history and to none more often than Sweetwater, which hosts its 22nd and 23rd Wild West events this weekend. Haudenshild Tribute IMCA Modified win is ‘something special’ for DeBenedetti

Jon DeBenedetti was in and out of the lead before taking the $2,000 checkers at Southern Oregon Speedway’s eighth annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier had put an engine purchased out of a car that Haudenshild had sponsored into his own ride just the day before. “We put it in Friday and won with it on Saturday. That was pretty cool,” DeBenedetti said. “I told (the previous owner) I’d buy it and win with it and that’s exactly what I did.” He’d started third in the 30-lapper and fell back to fifth before running the inside line back to second, behind Zach Fettinger. Hibdon’s North Dakota IMCA Modified success continues at Gumke Memorial

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (June 12) – Another IMCA Modified feature win at another North Dakota track put another $2,222 in Kollin Hibdon’s racing account Saturday night. Hibdon led all 25 laps of Jamestown Speedway’s second annual Don Gumke Racers’ Memorial, leading the way through lapped traffic the first 21 circuits and then outrunning teammate Casey Arneson after a caution with four laps left. “I’ve had the chance to get into the Arneson program and come to some nice, slick tracks that I’ve never been to before,” said the 17-year-old from Nevada, who’d taken the win and $5,000 top prize at last weekend’s 100-lap Iron Man special at Dacotah Speedway. “I’ve had a lot of really good mentors in my very few years of racing and have been in the lucky position of being able to pick myself up a couple (wins). IMCA Modifieds chase $10,000 check at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – A crown jewel event for IMCA Modifieds will see 141 Speedway present the winner of the 13th annual Clash at the Creek with a well-deserved check for $10,000. The Wednesday and Thursday, June 15-17 special brings drivers across the country to the famed Wisconsin speedplant, where they’ll chase the big payday and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. The Clash pays a minimum of $750 to start and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods race for $1,000 to win both nights at Francis Creek. Hibdon gets biggest IMCA Modified win at Dacotah Speedway’s Iron Man

MANDAN, N.D. (June 5) – Kollin Hibdon brought a simple strategy into Saturday night’s 100-lap Iron Man main event for IMCA Modifieds at Dacotah Speedway. And after staying patient and “not burning stuff up,” the 17-year-old from Pahrump, Nev., had a career highlight-type win and $5,000 to show for his first visit to the quick North Dakota oval. “This was my biggest win ever. I’ve won $1,500 to win and $1,700 to win races but nothing over $2,000,” said Hibdon, who chased teammate Casey Arneson over the first half of the race, then caught and held off Jeremy Keller the last 21 laps. “I kept looking at the leader board late in the race and knew if I didn’t burn stuff up that I had a pretty good chance.” Arneson and Hibdon ran 1-2 to the mandatory caution at midway. Hometown hero wins NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series feature at The Hill

By Evan Canfield MONROETON, Pa. (June 4) – Getting to The Hill Speedway for Keith Jack Lamphere is not a difficult task. From his front yard, you can see the track lights on any given Friday night. Making it to The Hill Speedway victory lane on June 4 for round two of the NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series season was a different story, however. On a beautiful night in the Pennsylvania mountains that saw 19 cars take the green flag, getting to the checkered flag without incident was the name of the game and Lamphere led the last 14 laps in taking the checkers.
