Cummins, Sathoff, Sandvig score first North Star Tour wins at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. (June 6) – Three first-time IMCA North Star Touring Series winners rook their turn in victory lane Saturday at Jackson Speedway. Jason Cummins won his career first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified tour feature ahead of Mat Hollerich and Jeff Larson. Luke Sathoff captured his first North Star checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Jim Larson was second and third was Dustin Larson. Megan Sandvig notched her first Mach-1 Sport Compact series win, chased across the stripe by Joe Bunkofske and Blaney Markman. Now a four-time winner over the course of his tour career, Jason Andrews was fastest in a 20-car field of Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Rounding out the top three were Kyle Steuber and Randy Winter. And Jeremy Wegner raced from seventh starting to first and the finish for his career second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock tour checkers. North Star Touring Series makes Iowa debut at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 4) – Five IMCA drivers wrote their name in the record book as winners of the first North Star Touring Series features held in Iowa Thursday night. Austin Wolf, Derek Green, Jared Boumeester, Brandon Nielsen and Nate Coopman were main event winners in front of the biggest crowd of the season at Kossuth County Speedway. Wolf took charge in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner after early leader Shane DeMey got into the guardrail on lap eight. Kyle Brown ran out of laps and settled for second while Eric Dailey ended in third. After two early restarts, Green motored to the high side, took the lead from Dan Mackenthun and checked out on the rest of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field. Jake Masters prevailed in a four-car battle for second. Third went to Kevin Opheim. After taking the lead on the 10th circuit, the 10th starting Boumeester led the final five laps in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod contest. IMCA’s Centennial Season is theme for Super Nationals Best Looking Car contest

BOONE, Iowa – IMCA is celebrating its centennial in 2015 and the 100th anniversary season will be the theme for the best looking car contest at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. All drivers in the six divisions competing with centennial themed cars at Boone Speedway over the course of the Sept. 7-12 Super Nationals receive $100 gift cards from title sponsor Speedway Motors. Hobby Stock and Northern SportMod themed cars will be judged on the front stretch during the Tuesday, Sept. 8 program. Modified and Stock themed cars will be judged during pre-race ceremonies on Saturday, Sept. 12. Best Looking Car winners in those four divisions each receive $100 in cash and NitroBee listening devices. IMCA clarifies wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA is clarifying its wheel rule for Mach-1 Sport Compacts. OEM wheels with 13-16 inch diameters, with varying offsets and bolt patterns are allowed. However, no alterations can be made to the wheel, hub, brakes or front suspension can be made for any reason. When discovered in post-race tech, the result will be a disqualification. “It has come to our attention that some competitors have been making alterations to make the wheels fit,” said IMCA Competition Director Tom Gutowski, “potentially jeopardizing the structural integrity of any or all of those components.” “Altering the wheel creates potentially dangerous scenarios. Sport Compact rules require the use of OEM wheels,” he continued, “and we allow those wheels to be reinforced per the rules but no other alterations are allowed. The OEM wheel must fit the make and model of the car and if it has to be altered to fit, it should not be used.” Questions about the Sport Compact wheel rule can be directed to Gutowski or Director of Division Development Dave Brenn.

Saturday show at Jackson next for North Star Touring Series

JACKSON, Minn. – Saturday’s IMCA’s North Star Tour show sees five IMCA divisions back in a familiar series setting. Jackson Speedway is site of the June 6 card featuring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Rauen outruns Droste at Marshalltown for first Deery Series win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 2) – Two drivers looking for career first Deery Brothers Summer Series feature wins squared off Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway and it was Jason Rauen going home with the trophy and a check for $3,500. Rauen reeled in Tyler Droste on the 42nd lap of the Miller Lite 50 tour event for IMCA Late Models, then pulled ahead to win by four car lengths. Jeff Aikey, Scott Fitzpatrick and Justin Kay completed the top five. “It feels pretty good to get this win. It’s been a long time coming,” Rauen said. “We’ve led a lot of races and had some crazy stuff happen.” “Some of the best drivers around compete in this series. Kenny collects first IMCA win and $5,000 at Route 66 Southern SportMod special

AMARILLO, Texas (May 30) – Brandon Kenny couldn’t have picked a better night for his career first Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod feature win. Kenny led every lap of Route 66 Motor Speedway’s topless special Saturday evening, earning $5,000 for his main event efforts. The win came in a Ramirez Race Car he and Modified driver Cole Traugott built in his hometown of Woodward, Okla. RRC teammate Mike Roach finished a straightaway off the pace, taking runner-up honors despite a broken right front shock. Ruter races to Skip Rose Memorial checkers at I-35

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 31) – Ryan Ruter raced to another $1,000 payday ay I-35 Speedway, topping the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature in Sunday’s rescheduled Skip Rose Memorial. Ruter started the 20-lapper from the fifth spot and had the lead when the third circuit was scored. The race stayed green until a car spun and came to a stop in the first set of turns, forcing a green, white, checkered finish. Ruter pulled away to beat Jesse Hoeft to the finish by five car lengths. “We knew we had to get to the lead pretty quick,” said Ruter, who’d swept Frostbuster specials at Hancock County Speedway and I-35 in April. “Everything worked out for us.” Kelly Shryock started 11th and finished third.
