IMCA Modifieds featured Friday’s at Tri-City Motor Speedway

AUBURN, Mich. ­– Tri-City Motor Speedway will have fans on the edge of their seat on action-filled Friday nights featuring Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds beginning April 22. Every Friday night of the 2016 season is packed full of entertainment through the season finale in September.
 TCMS has lined the upcoming schedule with many of the fan favorites such as Kids and Autograph Night, Figure 8 racing and the third annual Faster Pastor race. The Great Lakes Super Sprints will take to the track as will the new mini-wedge series for 6-14 year olds to gain skills on the Auburn clay. TCMS will host the popular free fireworks demo show sponsored by Wolverine Fireworks Display on Saturday, May 7. New Sprint Series of Oklahoma aligns with IMCA, RaceSaver

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Economics and rules sold Sprint Series of Oklahoma officials on IMCA and RaceSaver. The inaugural tour opens with the March 4 and 5 Red River Roundup at Red River Speedway. Fifteen dates are scheduled in all, at five different tracks. Southern Oklahoma Speedway, Longdale Speedway, Brill’s Motor Speedway and Oklahoma State Park also host SSO shows before the series returns to Red River and Wichita Falls, Texas, for its final events Oct. 28 and 29. “What we’re trying to do in this area is get more people in race cars. Marriott, Thornton are fastest on opening weekend of Winter Nationals

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Feb. 5-6) – Hunter Marriott and Ricky Thornton Jr. both continued their early season Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified success with $1,000 feature wins on the opening weekend of Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway. Marriott topped Friday’s main event after starting third; Lance Mari, Justin Zeitner, Ethan Dotson and David Murray Jr. rounded out the top five. Thornton raced from sixth in winning ahead of Dotson, Zeitner, Paul Stone and Dylan Smith on Saturday. More than 60 Modifieds from 15 states and Canada saw action at Cocopah and total car counts topped 100 both nights. Marriott and Thornton were already on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Marriott headlines Winter Challenge finale

(Jan. 30) – Hunter Marriott brought the curtains down on Canyon Speedway Park’s Winter Challenge with an impressive drive to victory lane in Saturday night’s fifth and final event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Marriott worked past Ryan Gaylord for the lead five laps into the $1,250 to win main event and then fought off Ricky Thornton Jr. the rest of the way to take his second Winter Challenge victory. “It has been fun racing with Ricky out here,” Marriott commented in victory lane.  “He pushes us so hard here, if it weren’t for him I don’t that we would have to work as hard as we have this week.” Marriott made a masterful move through a gaggle of lapped cars a handful of laps before the check­ered flag to secure the win with Thornton settling for second. Thornton reigns again at Winter Challenge

(Jan. 29) – Ricky Thornton Jr. maintained the hottest of Winter Challenge 2016 hands on Friday night, posting his third $1,250 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified triumph in four rounds of competition atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval. Racing from the front row, Thornton set the pace all the way for the second race in a row. Round Two winner Hunter Marriott tried to chase down Thornton to match up the score at two apiece but had to settle for second. Hadan, Stannard to attend Racing Xtravaganza

YORK, Pa. – Roger Hadan, the new owner of RaceSaver and promoter at Eagle, Neb., Raceway and IMCA Vice President of Operations Jim Stannard will attend the upcoming Racing Xtravaganza at the Expo Center in York, Pa., on Saturday, Feb. 6. Hadan and Stannard will participate in an 11 a.m. seminar outlining RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car racing. Five dates set for Cocopah Speedway’s Winter Nationals

SOMERTON, Ariz. ­– Winter Nationals expands to five dates at Cocopah Speedway. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $200 to start at Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5 and 6, Tuesday, Feb. 9 and Friday, Feb. 12 shows. The main event on Saturday, Feb. 13 pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. All five features are 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Also running on each of the five Winter Nationals programs are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $500 to win and $100 to start, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $400 to win and $60 to start, and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $350 to win and $50 to start. Heartland Park open again with Sunday shows for four IMCA divisions

TOPEKA, Kan. – The green flag flies again this season at Heartland Park, with four IMCA sanc­tioned divisions running Sunday nights on the 3/8-mile dirt oval located on the south side of To­peka. Now owned by Chris Payne, the facility will be promoted by brothers Larry and John Lowrey. Weekly race programs will feature Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. “We have a lot of drivers in all these divisions in the area,” Larry Lowrey said. “Our decision to sanction the Modifieds speaks for itself. Thornton shines again at Canyon Winter Challenge

(Jan. 24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. captured the lion’s share of Sunday night honors at Canyon Speedway Park by racing to victory lane in round three of Winter Challenge action atop the 1/3-mile clay oval. Thornton raced to his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win of the weekend, leading all 25 circuits from the pole. Tim Ward worked his way up from ninth in short order and chased Thornton to the line with Satur­day winner Hunter Marriott rounding out the podium in third.
