Late restart opens door for Logue at SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (June 22) – A race he didn’t win last August helped put Johnathon Logue in victory lane at Hancock County Speedway. His runner-up finish during the Night of 10,000 Stars show at Britt was on Logue’s mind at the start of Tuesday’s MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals. Remembering how George Nordman used the lower groove to get the best of him before at Britt, Logue followed the same line from 13th starting to the $2,500 checkers. The victory was his fourth of the season and, surprisingly, his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career first away from his hometown Boone Speedway. “My crew has put a lot of sweat and blood and work into this car,” Logue said. “This win got the weight off my shoulders.” He passed Jared Boumeester for the lead following a caution with five circuits left in the 30-lapper. “I’m not sure why no one else tried to run the bottom. Once I got to the 81 (Boumeester) I showed him my line and the yellow came out. I didn’t know if I’d [Read More]

Theme for Super Nationals best looking car contest is ‘Represent Your State’

BOONE, Iowa – Proud of where you call home? Heck yes, and IMCA is giving you the chance to prove it during the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. “This year’s contest is open to drivers in all seven divisions competing at Boone Speedway and trophies will be awarded in the four divisions that crown champions on Saturday night,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “We encourage all Super Nationals competitors to be as creative as they can with their home state representation, while making sure required decals are in the correct location on their car.” The same theme was used in choosing best looking entries at the Duel In the Desert last fall. “We wanted to make this announcement now so drivers can start making plans with their graphics company,” Yoder said. “If they let us know in advance, we can make sure announcers identify them during hot laps, for example.”

Champion Chadwick matches feature win record in Wild West Shoot Out title quest

By Ben Deatherage The 2016 Wild West Modified Shootout is finally in the books and it was one fantastic week of racing.  Of the seven races on the schedule the only one to fall to weather, although a handful of others had threatening skies, was just the final feature at Willamette Speedway on June 15.  Still the tour would visit six different tracks in California, Oregon, and Washington for seven races in eight nights. A record 90-plus Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers competed in at least one race during the course of the week. Christians is quickest in all star-filled field at Shawano Stock Car Shootout

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (June 18) – Jeremy Christians bested an all-star field that included three former national champions, two Super National winners and numerous track champions to take home the $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car check Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Christians, the 2010 champion at Super Nationals, held Brandon Czarapata at bay to win the Stock Car Shootout. Joe White, Travis Van Straten and Kyle Frederick rounded out the top five. White grabbed the lead on the opening lap and quickly received pressure from defending national champion Van Straten, while Frederick raced past Christians and into third by lap four. The battle between White and Van Straten allowed Frederick to catch the lead duo. On lap eight, Van Straten lost the handle in the middle of turns three and four but instead of stopping and bringing out a caution he stayed on the throttle and kept going. The incident dropped Van Straten back to ninth on the track and cost him a considerable amount of distance to the leaders. Frederick was now the chief challenger [Read More]

Last lap pass lands Linkenhoker in Virginia Sprint Series victory lane

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 18) – Shenandoah Speedway has seen many great last-lap passes for the win as the wide track lends itself to multi-groove racing. Anthony Linkenhoker put his name on the list of drivers to win this same fashion in Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event. Tony Harris and Bill Rice paced the field to green with Rice up high and leading the field with Harris running low. On lap 10, Harris made his move and was in the top spot as Rice with beginning to fade. Linkenhoker moved to second at halfway and the fight was really on. Harris was working his tires hard to stay up front as Linkenhoker kept sticking a nose in there three or four times as he tried high and low to get by, and with the white flag waving they were nose to tail again. Going into turn three Linkenhoker went high and Harris went low for a charge to the flag and they went across side by side with Linkenhoker charging by for [Read More]

Chadwick wins round six of Wild West Modified Shoot Out

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (June 17) – Round six of the Wild West Modified Shoot Out at Sunset Speedway Park resulted in Kellen Chadwick’s third win of the Pacific Northwest Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified Tour. Chadwick outran fellow front row starter and 2012 race winner Ken Schrader for the 35-lap victory. Schrader was making his sole appearance on this year’s tour. The tight ¼-mile bullring in Banks is the smallest track of the 2016 tour and provided stellar action all night long. Forty-six cars made the journey, representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado and Missouri as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
