Kay completes Liberty 100 Deery Weekend sweep

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Sept. 5) – The Ideal Ready Mix Liberty 100 Weekend turned out to be a $7,000 weekend for Justin Kay. A night after winning the Iron Man Challenge and $1,000, Kay topped a pair of 50-lap, $3,000 to win features for IMCA Late Models at West Liberty Raceway. The first of those Saturday victories was also Kay’s seventh this season in the Deery Brothers Summer Series. He’ll run for a record-tying fourth straight tour win on Sept. 7 at Boone Speedway, on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Kay started the first feature from outside row one and led every circuit. Cautions on laps 15 and 38 kept the race closer but Kay still took the win well ahead of Jeff Aikey, Brian Harris, Tyler Droste and Tyler Bruening. The defending series champion got another boost in his bid to repeat as second in points Andy Nezworski finished 19th. Kay also won three straight Deery features in 2013. Kay captures third straight IMCA Late Model national crown

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 4) – Justin Kay joined some pretty good company by winning another IMCA Late Model national championship. From Wheatland, Kay won 17 features and the track championship at Dubuque Speedway to total 814 points and top national standings for the division for a third consecutive season. It’s cool to be able to do it three years in a row.” Runner-up Matt Ryan of Davenport was just three points off the pace. He raced to 11 feature wins and track titles at Davenport Speedway, Jackson County Speedway and Quad City Speedway, plus the Allstar Performance Illinois State crown. Abelson adds third Tiny Lund trophy to collection

HARLAN, Iowa (Aug. 29) – For the third time in his career, Chris Abelson stood tallest at Shelby County Speedway’s Tiny Lund Memorial. Abelson held off Nick Deal in winning Saturday’s 25-lap main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. “It was definitely a battle,” the national point leader said following his 31st victory of the season. “It was a good race and fun for sure.” Abelson drew the inside row four start and was in the lead when the fifth circuit was scored. He’d trade the lead with Sobbing and led to the finish once he got back in front. The late-race storyline included lapped traffic and one final restart. Deal was threatening on the high side, so Abelson moved higher on the oval himself. Deal, Sobbing, Jacob Anson and Adam Larson completed the top five. Along with the $1,000 checkers, Abelson earned a spot on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. He’d also won the Tiny Lund main event for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods in 2006 and the Modified headliner [Read More]
