Moore is too much for opening night Arizona IMCA Mod Tour foes

By Mike Spieker YUMA, Ariz. (Feb. 10) – Bob Moore scored the opening night Arizona IMCA Modified Tour win after a couple spirited battles with Shawn Strand and Hunter Marriott. The first annual tour commenced Friday night at Cocopah Speedway with an outstanding field of 85 Modifieds in attendance. Moore’s victory paid $1,250 and put him on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. After taking the lead away from polesitter Strand, on lap two, Moore opened up a sizeable lead and checked out from the field. As the race advanced, however, Strand’s machine got faster and he was able to reel in and pass Moore to reclaim the lead. The race was slowed at halfway as seven cars tangled in turn one to bring out the caution. When the race resumed, Moore went to the low side of turns one and two to grab the lead away from Strand. Marriott followed suit and rode in Moore’s tire tracks to take the second spot. In the closing laps, lapped traffic allowed Marriott to [Read More]

New York’s Glen Ridge Motorsports Park puts IMCA Modifieds on Friday programs

FULTONVILLE, N.Y. – A perfect little track in eastern New York puts IMCA Modifieds on its Friday night programs beginning this season. Opening night for the sanctioned division at ¼-mile clay Glen Ridge Motorsports Park is now planned for April 14. “I have commitments from 15 guys now and that’s good enough for us to get the class started,” said Promoter Pete Demitraszek. “This is a perfect little track for them, I’ll tell you that. It’s a pretty quick little track.” IMCA Modifieds have made one previous appearance on the Fultonville oval, about four years ago. Demitraszek believes the economy of the division and the rules it brings with it, notably the crate engine option, will make it a success at the newest sanctioned track in IMCA’s Dirt Works Eastern Region. “I really like the rules package and the way IMCA enforces it,” he said. “Keeping the cost of racing down is important. The IMCA Modified is an economical race car and I think the crate engine is going to save the class in this [Read More]

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA Late Model drivers running for national and state honors will have more on-track opportunities in 2017. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded at all Deery Brothers Summer Series events as the tour switches from a unique 50-point system to IMCA’s familiar 40-point system. Schultz, Seidler score IMCA Modified wins at Cactus Clash

Schultz, Seidler score IMCA Modified wins at Cactus Clash YUMA, Ariz. (Feb. 3-4) – Brian Schultz had never won a feature the way he did before Friday night at Cocopah Speedway while Marlyn Seidler continued his Arizona success in Saturday’s IMCA Modified Cactus Clash headliner. Schultz motored his way to the front from 15th starting and passed Tim Ward coming to the checkers to win the opening night event at Yuma. Seidler reeled in leader Leland Hibdon, took charge following a mid-race restart and held off all challengers following a series of late yellows on night two. Both checkers were good for $1,000 and put the winners on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Ward had moved to a lower line before Schultz eked ahead to lead “maybe the last 100 feet.” “That was my first time doing that. I have never passed anybody that late in a race to take the win,” said Schultz. “I hadn’t even cleared Tim before I took the checkers.” The 13th starting Seidler, 14th starting Spencer Wilson and Scott [Read More]
