Gustin leads late, takes Night of 1,000 Stars checkers

By Ryan Clark BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 13) – An 83 minute rain delay was the first of many unexpected twists during the Night of 1,000 Stars at Hancock County Speedway. What seemed like a guaranteed payday for Ryan Ruter ended with a pair of broken rear axles in the 50-lap feature event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. That allowed Richie Gustin to steal the spotlight late as he drove to his first win in the annual event. Ruter took the lead from Corey Dripps on the sixth circuit and then built a straightaway lead when the mandatory caution slowed action on lap 25. After the 10 minute stop for drivers and crews to make adjustments to their cars on the front stretch, Ruter picked up where he left off when racing resumed. Hancock County rained out for Friday night

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 12) – Nights of 1,000 and 10,000 Stars will wait for new nights at Hancock County Speedway. The Night of 1,000 Stars, originally rescheduled for tonight (Friday) has been rained out and will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 at Britt. As a result, the Night of 10,000 Stars initially rescheduled for tomorrow evening will be held Sunday, Aug. 14. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Allstar Race has been postponed. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds headline both Saturday and Sunday specials, running for a potential $10,000 to win at both Iowa Modified Speedweek events. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks complete each program. Both the Night of 1,000 Stars and the Night of 10,000 Stars will be broadcast on IMCA.TV.

Early IMCA Super Nationals entry numbers already at record 462

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 12) – There’s already a car count record to be bragged about three weeks before the start of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Four hundred and sixty-two drivers have already pre-registered for the Sept. 5-10 Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. Even figuring in the addition of the Southern SportMods to the America’s Racin’ Vacation program, that’s light years ahead of pre-registration numbers at the same time for each of the four previous Super Nationals … 272 in 2012, 295 in 2013, 333 in 2014 and 317 in 2015. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals totes potential $5,000 top prize

EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 11) – The more than 130 drivers already pre-entered for the Sept. 1-4 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals main event will now be racing for a potential $5,000 top prize. In addition to the guaranteed $2,500, IMCA will pay the Sprint Nationals champion a bonus of $50 for each sanctioned start they’ve made this season. That means a driver who’s made 50 IMCA starts and takes the Sept. 4 checkers at Eagle Raceway can double his or her money. “We have paid bonuses based on the number of sanctioned starts to champions at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s for several years,” said Brett Root, president of the sanctioning body. “The growth of the IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car division and the entry numbers for this event certainly justify paying a similar bonus at Sprint Nationals.” That bonus will be presented during the IMCA national awards banquet in November. Hancock County IMCA Stars specials are postponed

BRITT, Iowa – Each of the three Iowa Modified Speedweek specials at Hancock County Speedway have been postponed because of inclement weather. The Night of 1,000 Stars will now be held Friday, Aug. 12; The Night of 10,000 Stars on Saturday, Aug. 13, and the All Star Show on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Britt. Racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. hot laps on Sunday. All three Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main events boast potential winner’s checks of $10,000. The 50-lappers are qualifiers for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. All three events will be broadcast by IMCA.TV. Marriott’s IMCA Modified ‘A’ game is good for second Hawkeye Dirt Tour win in three nights

ALTA, Iowa (Aug. 10) – Hunter Marriott brought his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified ‘A’ game to Buena Vista Raceway on Wednesday. The result was his second Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature win in three nights. Marriott restarted inside row one after frontrunners Chris Abelson and Kyle Strickler got together to bring out a lap six caution, then led the last 25 times around the track to top the $1,500-to-win feature at Alta. He pulled away from Joel Rust – ironically the Tuesday winner at Hamilton County Speedway when Abelson and Kelly Shryock tangled while battling for the lead on the last lap of the Harris Clash – before taking his second Iowa Modified Speedweek checkers. “It kind of felt that way,” Marriott said, acknowledging the lap six sense of déjà vu, “but there were a lot of laps left. The Night of 1,000 Stars on Thursday, Aug. 11, Night of 10,000 Stars on Friday, Aug. 12, and the All Star Race on Saturday, Aug. 13 at Britt all boast potential winner’s checks of $10,000, meaning the driver winning all three nights could take home $30,000. Rust wins thriller at 25th annual Harris Clash

By Ryan Clark WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Aug. 9) – Joel Rust had the greatest seat for the best race in the house for most of 25 laps Tuesday night at Hamilton County Speedway. Little did he know, a short time later it would lead the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver to a victory lane celebration as the winner of the Harris Clash. Rust, who started inside of row two, chased front row starters Chris Abelson and Kelly Shryock for all but three-quarters of a lap in the 25th annual event. Contact between the front-runners allowed Rust to escape to the first Harris Clash win of his career. Abelson built an early lead while Shryock pursued multiple car-lengths behind him. Shryock closed to within a car-length by lap 10 and searched high and low to work past the leader. While the former Clash winners engaged in a battle for the lead, Rust cut a half-straightaway deficit into just a couple car-lengths in the waning laps. Marriott drives away to IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour win at Clay County

By Ryan Clark SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 8) – His second Hawkeye Dirt Tour win was the series’ biggest payday for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver Hunter Marriott. The Brookfield, Mo. driver took the lead at midway en route to a $5,000 winner’s share Monday night in the tour’s first-ever visit to Clay County Fair Speedway. Marriott started in row two and was involved in a five-car battle for position before breaking through on the 15th of 30 laps. Justin Medler paced the field from his pole position start while a handful of drivers gave chase. Ricky Thornton Jr., Kelly Shryock and Marriott took turns in the runner-up spot before Marriott made the high side work to his liking.
